Latest LSC Headlines....

Breaking News out of Canyon
Jacob Albracht of KFDA in Canyon has reported (on twitter) the WTAM head basketball coach Rick Cooper has retired, effective immediately.  More details as they come in

From Lance Lahnert (twitter)
21-year WT men's BB coach Rick Cooper retired immediately today. My source says he told his players at 10 a.m. and WT officials had no idea.

Colorado QB Stevie Joe Dorman is expected to transfer to WT.  In three years at Colorado (one redshirt), Detmer did not see any playing time.  At Somerset HS, he threw for over 9,000 yards with 94 TDs.  His high school coach was his grandfather, Sonny Detmer (his mother is the sister to Ty and Koy Detmer).

Update C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl Cancelled

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Due to inclement winter weather that is forecasted to move through North Texas and the Southwestern Arkansas region, the 2013 C.H.A.M.P.S Heart of Texas Bowl between Tarleton State and Ouachita Baptist has been cancelled.

The weather forecast has a strong arctic front that has already entered a majority of North Texas and is heading toward the direction of OBU’s campus in Arkadelphia, Ark. The front is expected to bring freezing rain and the possibility of ice accumulations of up to 2" as daytime highs will only reach the upper 20s to low 30s.

In a statement released from the OBU Athletics Department, Athletic Director David Sharp feels the decision is in the best interest of players, families and fans.

“With the severe winter weather forecasted in Arkansas and Texas over the next two days, we feel that the safety of the Ouachita community is our number one priority,” said Sharp. “We are disappointed that our players will not get the chance to play against a quality opponent like Tarleton State and we are certainly pleased for the invitation from the Heart of Texas bowl committee. However, we have to think in the best interest of our student-athletes.”

Tarleton State Athletic Director echoed the same concerns for the student-athletes, stating “We are disappointed in having to cancel the bowl game on Saturday, but we support the decision OBU made,” said Reisman. “We hold the safety of our student-athletes, coaches and training staff in high regard. It is disappointing for these players who just had a tremendous season, winning the Lone Star Conference Co-Championship, but we understand that is out of our control and we look forward to another great season from this team in 2014.”

Beginning next Monday, Dec. 9, fans that purchased tickets with cash must bring their tickets to the ticket office located inside Wisdom Gym for a full refund. Ticket holders that paid for their tickets with a credit card will automatically receive a refund. The ticket office will be open all of next week, Monday through Friday, Dec. 9-13, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Refunds for the bowl game will only be given out next week.

Lions AD Ryan Ivey announced the Live United Bowl has been postponed

"Due to the weather forecast for this weekend, the Live United Texarkana Bowl will be postponed. We are currently working on an alternate solution to play the game. Currently it looks like the best option would be next Friday, December 13. I realize this is the night of the Graduate School Graduation ceremony, and know that there will be many from the University Community that will not be able to attend. As soon as we are to agree on some clarification and an alternate date/time, we will send out an official release with all of the information. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and I will do my best to answer them.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and will communicate other details as they arrive.

Thanks for your continued support.

Ryan"
