Texas A&M-Kingsville Signing List

#Logan Morris, QB, 5-9, 180, QB, Corpus Christi (Carroll/Kilgore JC)
Morris was a first team All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference pick after leading Kilgore to an 8-4 record, a conference title and a trip to the Heart of Texas Bowl. He completed 18 of 26 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns against Gulf Coast Community College in the Heart of Texas Bowl. As a sophomore Morris completed 120 of 212 passes for 1,596 yards and 19 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He completed 10 of 18 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-26 win over Navarro. As a freshman he came off the bench to lead Kilgore to a 19-7 come from behind victory over #11 Ft.Scott in the 2006 Heart of Texas Bowl, leading the Rangers on a pair of fourth quarter touchdown drives. He threw an 11-yard touchdown pass on third and goal to put Kilgore in front for good. At Carroll he was a second team All-District 28-5A and an honorable mention All-State pick as a senior after leading the Tigers to a 9-1 record and a district title. He passed for 2,285 yards and 29 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He also led the team with nine rushing touchdowns and had355 yards rushing. Some of his best performances included throwing for406 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Victoria Memorial, passing for 202 yards and three scores in a win over Gregory Portland, throwing for four touchdowns and running for another in a win over Miller and throwing a 25-yard touchdown pass with four seconds left to beat Ray. In his only start as a junior, Logan threw for 204 yards. He played for his father, Terry Morris at Carroll High School.

#Nate Poppell, QB, 6-2, 180, Spring (Spring/University of Mary)
Poppell redshirted last football season at Division II University of Mark in North Dakota. He was a second team All-District 16-5A selection as a senior in 2006 after passing for over 1,600 yards. He threw for214 yards and a touchdown against Klein Forest and 183 yards and four touchdowns against Klein Collins. He was also a two-time second team All-District performer in baseball.

*Malcolm Whitmire, QB, 6-0, 225, Refugio
Whitmire was the Co-Offensive MVP of District 31-2A, second team All-South Texas in his first year playing quarterback for the Bobcats. He passed for 2,407 yards, 23 touchdowns and just three interceptions as a senior. He completed 152 of 225 passes, completing 67 percent of his passes and averaged 10.7 yards per completion. He had five games of 200 yards or more passing including a 12 of 16 performance for 221 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-0 win over Bloomington. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 234 yards with three touchdowns and ran for two more scores against Three Rivers. He completed 16 of 23 for a season-high 291 yards and three scores against Poth. He also ran for 223 yards and 11 touchdowns. Whitmire was a defensive tackle until his senior season. He earned second team All-District honors as a defensive player his junior season. Whitmire was a second team All-District pick as a pitcher and is a starter on the Bobcat basketball team.

*Freddie Harrison, RB, 5-9, 180, Sealy
Harrison was a first team All-District 24-3A pick this year for the Tigers. He helped turn the Tigers from a 2-8 squad his junior year to co-district champions and a playoff team with a 7-4 mark as a senior. He rushed for 613 yards on only 71 carries and scored seven touchdowns.He averaged 8.6 yards per carry this year. He had 13 carries for 69 yards against #1 ranked Giddings in the first round of the playoffs. His best game came against Brookshire Royal when he gained 142 yards on just eight carries and scored two touchdowns. Against Stafford he had 100 yards rushing on just nine carries and a touchdown. As a junior he gained 258 yards and scored eight touchdowns on just 62 carries.

*Mitchell Swan, RB, 6-0, 195, Converse Judson
Swan helped lead the Rockets to the Class 5A Division I finals this season. He led the team in rushing with 1,382 yards and 18 touchdowns and receiving with 321 yards on 14 receptions and four touchdowns. He scored the Rockets only touchdown in the state championship game against Euless Trinity and led the team with 19 carries for 66 yards. Swan had92 yards rushing in the Rockets’ 28-7 semifinal victory over Galena Park North Shore. He had 131 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns in a42-21 playoff victory over San Antonio Reagan. The previous week he had162 yards on just 14 carries and scored two touchdowns in a 34-16 victory over La Joya. During the regular season he had 154 yards on 12 carries including a 72-yard touchdown run against Kerrville Tivy. Against San Antonio Lee he had 136 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns. He was a second team All-District 26-5A selection this year.

*Jonathon Woodson, RB, 5-9, 170, Ft. Bend Marshall
Jonathon was a first team All-District 23-5A this season. He had 626 yards rushing on 91 carries and scored 10 touchdowns. He averaged 6.9 yards per carry this season. He had 10 carries for 103 yards including a 74-yard touchdown run and ran a kickoff back 90 yards for a score against Clements. Woodson scored two touchdowns in the first round playoff loss to Brazoswood.

*Sherman Batiste, WR, 5-10, 170, Ft. Bend Marshall
Batiste was a first team All-District 23-5A pick this year. He had
34 catches for 719 yards and 6 touchdowns. He had seven catches for 99 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown grab in a 21-8 win over Hastings, three catches for 104 yards in a 30-16 win over Klein, four catches for
73 yards in the first round playoff loss to Brazoswood and two catches for 134 yards and a touchdown against Clements.

*Paul Fontenot, WR, 6-0, 185, Dayton
Fontenot was a first team All-District 22-4A pick at both wide receiver and cornerback. He helped lead Dayton to an 11-4 record, the school’s first regional title and a spot in the Class 4A Division I semifinals. Fontenot played in a spread-attack offense in high school and finished the year with 31 catches for 350 yards. He had 22 catches for 275 yards as a junior. In his two seasons as a starter he had nine touchdowns and six interceptions, returning one interception for a touchdown. He led the team with three catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in the state semifinal contest. The week before he had three catches for 56 yards and a score in a 28-21 win over Waller. His other touchdown came on a 26-yard pass play in a win over Texas City.

*Chandler Hill, WR, 6-2, 185, Spring Branch (Smithson Valley HS)
Hill played two seasons at Smithson Valley and one season at Cornerstone Christian Academy. He caught 21 passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns this season. Smithson Valley went 12-2 this season and advanced to the Class 5A Division II quarterfinals. He had a 16-yard touchdown reception in Smithson Valley’s 55-7 win over Harlingen South in the playoffs. He also had a 30-yard grab in the Rangers’ 31-17 win over Converse Judson. He was Smithson Valley’s second leading receiver last year. As a sophomore at Cornerstone Christian he started at both wide receiver and safety. He is the grandson of former Texas Tech All-American and Kansas City Chief All-Pro and Super Bowl champion E.J.Holub. His uncle, Jeff Ireland, is the general manager of the Miami Dolphins.

#De’Andre Wallace, WR, 5-8, 185, Lufkin (Kilgore College)
Wallace had 13 catches for 244 yards at Kilgore College in 2006. He played football and ran track at Lufkin High School. He helped lead Lufkin to the Class 5A Division II semifinals in 2005.

*Reid Nitcholas, TE, 6-1, 225, Round Rock
Reid was a second team All-District 14-5A selection as a senior at Round Rock High School. He caught six passes for 68 yards and a touchdown as a senior. He was a two-year starter that helped lead Round Rock to the regional finals in back to back seasons. Nitcholas was also an academic All-District selection.

*Sidney Cheatham, OL, 6-3, 300, Portland (Gregory-Portland)
Cheatham was a second team All-State pick and a first team All-District 30-4A pick this year. He helped lead Gregory-Portland to an 8-5 record and a spot in the Class 4A Division I quarterfinals. He was also named to the All-Bay Area, All-South Texas and All-Metro teams.
He played on an offense that averaged 31 points and 340 total yards per game and earned Most Valuable Offensive Lineman honors in 30-4A. He led the Wildcats with 376 good blocks and 27 pancakes. He was a second team All-District pick as a junior.

#Chris Herrera, OL, 6-4, 280, Missouri City (Ft. Bend Marshall/Mississippi State)
Herrera signed with Mississippi State out of high school in 2006, redshirted, but did not play. He played tight end at Fort Bend Marshall until his senior season when he made the move inside to offensive tackle. He was a first team All-District 20-5A selection, helping Marshall average 444.5 yards per game during his senior season. Marshall went 10-1 during his senior season including a 7-0 record in district play.

#Chris Hudgins, OL, 6-3, 300, Van Vleck (Van Vleck/Missouri)
Hudgins signed with the University of Missouri out of high school in 2005. He was a two-way star at tight end and defensive end at Van Vleck High School. He helped lead Van Vleck to a district championship as a senior in 2004 and to the 3rd round of the state playoffs, playing both sides of the ball in every game. Hudgins had 45 pin blocks to go with 23 receptions for 354 yards and four touchdowns as a tight end his senior year. He was a first team All-State pick and was a three-time all-area and all-district 1st-Team pick on both sides of the ball ...Also earned 1st-Team Class 2A All-Houston honors in 2004, and 2nd-Team All-Houston (all classes) recognition. He was a 1st-Team all-district performer in basketball in 2002, 2003 and 2004. He averaged 23 points,15 rebounds and eight blocks per game as a senior. He was the Class 2A state champion in the discus after finishing third as a junior.

#Chris Luckey, OL, 6-1, 190, Houston (Liberty Hill/Cisco JC)
Luckey was a first team All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference pick this season at Cisco. He helped the Bulldogs advance to the SWJCFC playoffs and a 7-4 record. He was a first team Class 3A All-State and first team All-District 27-3A pick at Liberty Hill High School.

*Justin McMillian, OL, 6-3, 255, Medina Valley
McMillian was a unanimous, two-time, first team All-District 27-3A pick as an offensive lineman at Medina Valley. He was second team all-district pick as a defensive lineman as a junior. As a junior, Medina Valley posted a 8-4 record and advanced to the Class 3A Division II area finals. As a sophomore he was a second team All-District 28-4A selection.

*Jose Trevino, OL, 6-0, 285, Portland (Gregory-Portland)
Trevino was a first team All-District 30-4A selection this season for the Wildcats. He was also a first team All-Metro, first team All-South Texas and a second team state All-Academic selection. He had 321 good blocks and 12 pancake blocks this season. Trevino was a two-year starter at Gregory-Portland. He helped lead Gregory-Portland to an 8-5 record and a spot in the Class 4A Division I quarterfinals.

*Karl Willie, OL, 6-4, 250, Ben Bolt (Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco)
Karl was a two-time, first team All-District 32-A pick at Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco and was an honorable mention All-State pick. Karl is the younger brother of former Javelina offensive lineman Andre Willie.

*Ryan Deal, TE/DE, 6-2, 225, Refugio High School
Ryan was a two-way starter for Refugio, playing tight end on offense and end on defense. He helped lead the Bobcats to a 13-1 record and the Class 2A Division II quarterfinals. Deal caught four passes for 128 yards and a touchdown including a long reception of 85 yards. He was also the team’s third leading tackler with 48 stops and one quarterback sack. He was a second team All-District 31-2A pick at tight end and defensive end as a senior. As a sophomore he was first team All-District 29-2A pick as a defensive end. He was also a second team All-District pick as a third baseman.

#Bo Jones, 6-0, 285, DL, West Columbia (Columbia/Kilgore JC)
Jones was a starter on a Kilgore team that won the SWJCFC regular season title and advanced to the Heart of Texas Bowl. Jones was a first team All-District 24-3A pick at Columbia High School, leading the Roughnecks to a district title in 2004.

*Sangster Lewis, DT, 6-3, 330, DT, Ft. Bend Austin
Lewis was a first team All-District 23-5A selection this year. He had 55 total tackles as a senior. He was a three year starter and was a member of the All-District academic team.

*Steven Ogebedie, DE, 6-1, 215, Ft. Bend Marshall
Ogebedie was a first team All-District 23-5A pick this season with8.5 sacks, 53 tackles, 12 ½ tackles for loss, 28 quarterback hurries and caused two fumbles in just eight games. He had 45 tackles and six sacks as a junior.

*Matt Roming, DL, 6-3, 210, Bells
Roming was a first team All-District 14-2A and All-Texomaland pick this year at defensive end for Bells High School. Matt had 51 tackles, 9 quarterback sacks in just seven games this season. He was a starter for two and a half seasons, the last two at defensive end. He was also a first team All-District pitcher as a junior and plays on the Bells High School basketball team.

#Dulani Stephens, DL, 6-0, 270, Moore, Okla. (Moore/Northeastern Oklahoma A&M)
Stephens played two seasons at Northeastern Oklahoma. He had four tackles last year and four tackles as a freshman including one quarterback sack. He was an All-Conference and All-District pick at Moore High School. He also qualified for the Class 6A state track meet in the discus.

Spenser Duncan, DE, 6-4, 220, Buffalo
Duncan (6-4, 220) was the co-Defensive MVP of district 23-3A and was a first team All-District 23-3A selection as a junior. He played on a very successful Buffalo team that was ranked #1 in the state, went 11-1 this season and advanced to the Class 3A Division II area round. As a junior the Buffaloes went 13-1 and played in the Class 3A Division II quarterfinals.

*Wes Moore, LB, 6-1, 215, Keller
Moore was a three-year starter at Keller and a regional qualifier in wrestling.

#Chris Jones, LB, 5-10, 220, San Antonio (Holy Cross)
Chris was a three-time, first team TAPPS All-State and All-District pick at Holy Cross High School in San Antonio. He signed with Midwestern State out of high school in 2006, but did not play there.

*Cody Daniels, DB, 6-0, 185, La Grange
Daniels was a three-time All-District pick at La Grange High School. He earned first team All-District 23-3A honors this year, was a second team All-District 23-3A pick as a junior as he registered four interceptions and was a first team All-District 19-3A pick as a sophomore. As a senior he had 60 tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He qualified for the regional track meet in both the 200-meter dash and the 4 x 200-meter relay team. He also ran the anchor leg on La Grange’s 4 x 100-meter relay team. He is a three-year letterwinner on the basketball team and earned honorable mention All-District last season. His great aunt is former Javelina All-American volleyball player and Javelina Hall of Fame member Rose Jones.

*Willie Davis, DB, 6-1, 190, Alvin
Davis was a two-year starter at Alvin High School. This year he had four interceptions, 75 tackles, a quarterback sack and broke up eight passes and blocked a field goal.

*Thad Deiss, FS, 6-0, 175, El Campo
Deiss was a first team All-District 24-4A selection as a senior and a second team pick as a junior. Deiss made 91 tackles, knocked down six passes and picked off one for an interception as a senior. He registered
62 tackles and three interceptions as a junior. He was a two-time All-Wharton County selection.

*Giovanni Greene, S, 6-0, 205, Ft. Bend Marshall
Greene had 43 total tackles, two quarterback sacks, one interception and three tackles for loss as a senior. He was an honorable mention All-District 23-5A pick this year.

*Generra Knight, DB, 6-1, 205, Dallas Hillcrest
Generra was a first team All-District 13-4A pick as a senior and a second team selection as a junior. Hillcrest’s defense allowed only an average of 264 yards and 15.7 points per game this season. He had a 30-yard touchdown run against North Dallas this year and a 62-yard run for a touchdown against Thomas Jefferson as a sophomore. He also plays on the Hillcrest basketball team.

*Jonathan McCray, DB, 5-11, 195, Mesquite (West Mesquite)
He was a first team All-District 10-4A selection as a senior, helping West Mesquite to a 10-4 record and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A Division II playoffs. It marked the first time in school history that West Mesquite advanced past the second round of the playoffs. McCray had seven interceptions and 51 tackles as a junior.
He was also the team’s backup quarterback.

*Zack Pate, S, 5-9, 175, Round Rock
A three-year starter, Pate was a first team All-District 14-5A, All-Williamson County, All-Central Texas and district defensive MVP as a senior. He was also an honorable mention All-State pick. Pate had 130 tackles, one interception, broke up 10 passes, blocked a field goal and scored three touchdowns as a senior. He returned seven kicks for 185 yards, caught six passes for 70 yards and ran the ball 69 times for 551 yards. He had 152 tackles, three quarterback sacks, eight forced fumbles and an interception his junior year as the Dragons went 9-4 and advanced to the third round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs. He has been selected to play in the 2008 Lone Star Classic.

ENMU Signing List

J.J. Harp (QB, 6-2, 180, Argyle, Texas/Argyle HS) garnered second team all-state laurels at AHS and was the District 8-3A MVP. AS a senior, he completed 245 of his 344 pass attempts (71 percent) for 3,513 yards along with 35 touchdowns and only nine interceptions.

Shaun Rutherford (QB, 6-1, 185, Bay City, Texas/Bay City HS) earned honorable mention all-state and District 24-4A Offensive MVP honors after leading the Houston area in passing yards. As a senior, he completed 245 passes for 3,310 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also was named Ford Tough Player of the Week for his performance against Brenham in week four of the season.

Travis Chrisman (QB, 6-4, 210, Comfort, Texas/Comfort HS) threw for 3,000 yards as a senior at CHS with 33 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He was a three-time all-district selection, earning all-region and Newcomer of the Year honors in 2005. Chrisman earned All-Hill Country honors and Built Ford Tough Player of the Week. As a senior, he was chosen as the regions’ most valuable offensive player. Chrisman also competed in track, golf and baseball at Comfort HS.

Joseph Banyard (RB, 6-0, 200, Sweetwater, Texas/Texas Christian Univ./Sweetwater HS) transferred to ENMU from the Horned Frogs of TCU. As a senior at SHS, he rushed for 1,245 yards and 21 touchdowns, earning honorable mention 3-A all-state honors. He also was a Second Team Texas High School Football selection and a Third Team Texas Sports Writers Association pick.

Terrence Griffin (RB, 5-10, 190, Conroe, Texas/Caney Creek HS) rushed for over 1,300 yards as a senior at CCHS, earning first team all-county honors for his efforts. As a junior, he was chosen first team all-district and first team all county as a defensive back. In a power lifting meet in Conroe, Texas, he was voted “Pound for pound the strongest lifter.”

Robert Carter (RB, 5-11, 180, Rockwall, Texas/Rockwall HS) was an all-district 10-5A selection after rushing for 1,117 yards and 11 touchdowns on 221 carries (5.05 yards/carry). He also was chosen by the Dallas Morning News as Player of the Week. Carter’s balance and athleticism also served him well, earning him two all-district selections on the WHS wrestling team.

Curtis Jackson (RB, 5-10, 185, College station, Texas/A&M Consolidated HS) joins the Hounds after playing at A&M CHS for Tiger’s high powered offense.

Kedric Carver (RB/S, 5-11, 175, New Deal, Texas/New Deal HS) was a highly decorated player for NDHS, earning the Associated Press selected him for first team all-state honors at safety and honorable mention at running back. He was chosen as South Plains defensive player of the year, and Super Team running back and All-South Plains running back by the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. The Top—o-Texas magazine chose him as the Super Team running back, and he also made first team academic all-state. In playing both safety and running back for the Lions, he was named District 5-1A’s Most Valuable Player. Over his career, he has rushed for 3,608 yards in his last three seasons with 41 rushing touchdowns. He also has recorded seven interceptions, 21 pass deflections, and four fumble recoveries.

Kiethy Flye (RB, 5-10, 175, Abilene Texas/Abilene HS) and
J.J. James (WR, 5-10, 175, Abilene Texas/Abilene HS)
both come to the Hounds after earning All-District status at AHS. Flye was an honorable mention all-state and first team all district selection as a senior, in addition to earning a spot on the Second Team 2007 All-Texas Team. He also was selected as a Built Ford Tough Player of the Week. Flye rushed for 1,711 yards for a 7.6 yards per carry average to finish his career with 2,392 overall rushing yards. James made 63 catches last season for 694 yards, averaging 10.9 yards per reception. For his career, he posted 1,024 yards receiving with an average of 11.3 yards per catch.

Anthony Owusu-Appiah (WR, 6-0, 190, Hurst Texas/L.D. Bell HS) Owusu-Appiah earned All District 5A honors after leading the Blue Raiders to the state playoffs. As a senior, he caught a team-best 49 passes for 492 yards (10.4 yards per catch) and five touchdowns, and rushed for 500 yards (15.6 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. At the conclusion of the season, he amassed 1,200 all-purpose yards.

Matt Handler (WR, 6-3, 200, Argyle, Texas/Argyle HS) Handler was selected 3A honorable mention all-state and first team all-district honors. AS a senior, he hauled in 61 receptions for 1,045 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Darian Dale (WR, 6-0, 180, Bay City, Texas/Bay City HS) was one of Rutherford’s top targets last season at BCHS, making 63 receptions for 878 yards and six touchdowns. A great deep threat, he averaged 15 yards per catch, and was an asset to the Blackcats with his ability to stretch the field. For his efforts, he was selected Associated Press Class 4A Honorable Mention All-State and First Team District 24-4A.

Brandon Marbley (WR, 5-9, 165, Houston, Texas/Westside HS) earned all-district honors as captain of the team at WHS. He also was a regional qualifier in the 800 and 400 relays for the track team.

Evan Fraley (OL, 6-7, 315, Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery HS) captained the MHS team and earned all-district honors last season.

Justin Ward (OL, 6-5, 310, Brownwood, Texas/Brownwood HS) was an all district selection on Brownsville’s line after recording 55 pancake blocks. He also was a regional qualifier in power lifting and received the National History Achievement Award. Ward competed for the track team at BHS, tossing the shot put and discus.

Jaime Villafuerte (OL, 6-3, 310, San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan HS) earned all district honors at RRHS for his play on the offensive line, grading 80 percent as a senior with 45 pancake blocks. He also threw the shot put and discus for the track team.

Adam Robinson (OL, 6-6, 305, Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock Cooper HS) earned All-District 4-3A, all-city, All-South Plains, and all-state honors for his performance as a senior. The awards were well deserved, as he graded 85 percent on run blocking and 100 percent on pass protection with no sacks allowed. Robinson was chosen as his offensive line’s most valuable player seven times last season. As a power lifter, he has benched 385 lbs. and squatted 600 lbs., giving him a great chance to reach the state championships. As a junior, he was a regional qualifier in power lifting as well as the shot put and discus for the track team.

Stephen Smith (OL/DL, 6-2, 265, Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) Smith, a versatile lineman garnered First Team All-Metro honors at La Cueva. He earned first team all-district status playing both offensive and defensive line, and was a first team All-State Farm All-Metro choice on the offensive line. Smith also was selected to play in the New Mexico North/South All-Star Game.

Nathan Carver (C, 6-3, 265, Clovis, N.M./Clovis HS) was a first team all-district offensive center for the Clovis Wildcats and played in the New Mexico North/South All-star game.

Ira Wallace’s (OL/DL, 6-1, 315, Odessa, Texas/Permian HS) versatility should allow him to help the Hounds’ offensive and defensive lines. He was a two-year starter at PHS and earned an all-district selection. He performed exceptionally well on the offensive line as a senior, grading 80 percent with 50 pancake blocks. He also competed in power lifting and track.

Ricky Padilla (OL/DL, 6-2, 250, Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces HS) was a first team all-state selection for the Las Cruces’ offensive line and a second team all-district choice on the defensive line. He also was selected to play in the New Mexico North/South All-Star Game.

Nick Adams (DE, 6-4, 255, Houston, Texas/Clear Lake HS) earned All-District 24-5A two straight seasons. As a senior, his ability to find the opposing ball carrier allowed him to register 105 tackles, including nine for a loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries ad eight pass breakups.

Josey Childs (DL, 6-0, 200, Midland, Texas/Midland Lee HS) was selected as the Rebels’ defensive most valuable player as well as the defensive line’s most valuable player. MLHS utilized Child’s speed and ability to find the ball, as a senior he led the team with 88 tackles, nine sacks and 15 tackles for a loss. Childs also finished third on the team with two forced fumbles. For his efforts, he was selected First Team All-State and First Team All-District 3-5A. As a junior, he also was first team all-district and completed the regular season with 92 tackles including 12 stops for a loss, eight sacks and two forced fumbles.

Isaiah Yandall (DT, 6-3, 280, Euless, Texas/Trinity HS) a defensive tackle from Trinity high school will be joining the team to take part in off-season workouts.

Matt Cornett (DE, 6-3, 220, La Vernia Texas/La Vernia HS) and Patrick McGrath (DE/LB, 6-1, 250, La Vernia, Texas/La Vernia HS) were teammates at LVHS and should be very familiar with each other’s tendencies on defense. Cornett was a unanimous first team all-district selection for LVHS. He also benched 360 lbs. and squatted 560 lbs. while competing for the power lifting team. McGrath earned district MVP honors and was a first team all-district selection at both defensive end and linebacker. As a senior, his pass rush ability was a great asset to his team as he recorded 12 quarterback sacks. For his career, he finished with 300 tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. He also competed for the power lifting team, benching 450 lbs. and squatting 650 lbs.

Jason Fidge (OLB, 6-1, 188, Conroe, Texas/Conroe HS) captained the Conroe Tigers as a senior and paced the squad with 106 tackles including a team-best 14 stops for a loss, two sacks and two interceptions. He was voted Courier Readers “Fan” tastic Player of the week, first team district 15-5A and first team all-county.

Taniela Vake (LB, 6-1, 200, Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell HS) Vake earned First Team All-District 5A honors and was the squad’s defensive captain. He finished with 100 tackles including 10 for a loss, one interception and three quarterback sacks.

Edward Zamora (OLB, 6-0, 210, San Antonio, Texas/NMMI/Taft HS) transferred to Eastern from NMMI, where he made the Commandment Honor Roll all five semesters. He earned Bronco Defensive Hustler award as a freshman, recording 130 tackles, seven sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a pass break up.

Reggie Butler (FS, 5-11, 165, Baytown, Texas, Robert E. Lee HS) was a First Team District 21-5A selection, recording 65 tackles and three interceptions with two returned for touchdowns.

Ryan Cook (DB, 5-10, 165, Houston, Texas/Mayde Creek HS) led the Rams to a third place finish in the 5A Region III District 18 standings in his senior season. For his efforts, he was selected as the district’s most valuable player.
