Angelo State - LSC Volleyball Tournament Champions
Angelo State claimed its second straight and eighth overall Lone Star Conference Volleyball Tournament Championship with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) victory over Tarleton State.

The Rambelles earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA South Central Regional tournament and improved to 31-3 overall this year.

ASU hit .422 with 51 kills and only two attack errors to maintain control of the match.

Brianna Sotello led the Rambelles impressive attack with 15 kills, while Mallory Blauser, who was named tournament MVP, added 13.

Sotello and Mallory Davidson, who had a match-high 23 digs, joined Blauser on the all-tournament team.

Hailey Roberts led the TexAnns with 15 kills and Autumn Taylor added 13.  Jordyn Keamo had 29 assists and Adrianna Knutson had 17 digs.

LSC Football Playoff Recaps
Lions use turnovers and key scores to take first playoff win since 1991 with 34-23 victory over Colorado Mesa

The fourth-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce football team scored two touchdowns in the early stages of the third quarter to take a three-score lead and never looked back in a 34-23 win over fifth-seeded Colorado Mesa in the first round of the NCAA Division II Football Championship at Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the victory, A&M-Commerce wins an NCAA playoff game for the first time since 1991, which was also the last time the Lions hosted a postseason game in Commerce. The Lions are 2-0 all-time in the NCAA playoffs at home.
 
The Lions are now 11-1 on the season and advance to the second round of the playoffs, where they will play at the top seed in Super Region Four Grand Valley State. Kickoff against the Lakers (11-0) is set for 12 p.m. CT at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale, Mich, on Saturday, November 26...Complete release

No. 15 Ferris State bounces Mustangs out of playoffs

Reserve quarterback Trevor Bermingham accounted for six touchdowns to lead No. 15 Ferris State to a 65-34 win over 22nd-ranked Midwestern State in the first round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs Saturday at Top Taggart Field.
 
The Bulldogs (10-2) moves on to play host to Colorado Mines, a 63-35 winner over Southwest Baptist on Saturday, in the next week's second round.
 
MSU rode a quick start to a 20-10 lead less than a minute into the second quarter as senior quarterback Quade Coward connected on touchdown passes to Statron Jones (29) and Breion Evans (27) and rushed in from 10 yards out.
 
The Mustangs seemed to catch another break Ferris State starting quarterback Reggie Bell exited the game with an injury after he was sacked by Dontae Armstrong with 13:22 to play in the first half...Complete release

In looking at the Mavericks schedule, you have to ask yourself - What the hell happened in weeks 6 and 7?  Not to take anything away from Black Hills State and Dixie State, but those are not games a playoff team is supposed to lose.  Especially after defeating Colorado Mines and Colorado State-Pueblo in the prior three weeks.  They did recover to win their final four games and make the playoffs for the fifth time and first time since 2007.  The Mavericks were second in the RMAC in scoring (42.7) and yards gained (506.9), rushing for 243.6 and passing for 263.3 per game.  Senior Sean Rubalcaba was the leading passer, throwing for 1,931 yards, but just a 10-8 TD/Int ratio.  RB David Tann led the team with 1,014 yards and 20 TDs rushing.  Backup QB Eystin Salum was second in both rushing (668 yards) and passing (851 yards 8 TDs, 1 Int).  The defensive numbers aren't as stellar - 30.7 points and 462.5 yards allowed, (204.9 rushing and 257.6 passing)

This could be a high scoring game, but look for the Lions to get a few more stops and move on to round 2.  TAMC 38-24

Ferris State (9-2) comes into the game on a roll, winning its last five games by a 44-18 margin.  The Bulldogs two losses were to unbeaten Grand Valley State (35-23) and 9-2 Ashland (39-31).  They are balanced on offense, rushing for 267 yards a game and throwing for 228 and scoring 35.7 points weekly.  QB Reggie Bell is a dual threat, throwing for 2,046 yards and an 11-6 TD/Int ratio and leading the team in rushing with 1,081 yards and 15 TDs.  The defense has allowed 21.4 points and 345 yards per game.  Against the run, they allowed just 106 yards.  They also had 33 sacks and 15 interceptions.

The Mustangs have been playing with fire much of the 2016 season and have gotten burned a couple of times.  Don't look for a fifth miracle finish this week.  Ferris State 35-21

LSC Volleyball All-Conference and Championship Central

LSC Volleyball Championships
The teams are set for the annual Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, which begins Thursday in San Angelo, Texas.
  
Angelo State is the top seed and host after capturing the program’s ninth LSC Championship with an 18-2 league record.  The eight-team, single-elimination tournament consists of four first-round matches on Thursday, followed by two semifinal games on Friday evening and the championship match on Saturday.

No. 8 Lions claim third consecutive LSC championship after 30-10 win over Tarleton State

The No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce football team clinched its third consecutive Lone Star Conference championship after defeating Tarleton State University 30-10 on Saturday. After falling behind early, the Lions ran away with the game in the second half.

The win pushes A&M-Commerce to 9-1 on the season and 8-1 in the conference. With a Midwestern State loss, the Lions won the conference title outright. TSU falls to 5-6 and 5-4 in the Lone Star Conference.

The Lions now look toward the NCAA Division II Playoffs and will likely host a game in the first round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Their seeding and opponent will be announced Sunday as part of the NCAA selection show, which begins at 4 p.m.

Quarterback Luis Perez finished the game 22-of-35 for 274 yards and a touchdown.

Shawn Hooks returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown in the game. It is his third punt return for a touchdown on the season. The touchdown moves him into the lead for most punt return touchdowns across all four divisions of NCAA football...Complete Release

Last Minute Heroics Vault Gridiron Hounds Past #12 Mustangs

It seemed as if No. 12 Midwestern State had relied on a previous script, when they rallied from a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit to seize a 28-24 lead with just 52 seconds left in regulation.

The Eastern New Mexico football team had other ideas, and responded with a seven-play, 70-yard drive, capped by Aaron Johnson's 19-yard touchdown reception on the game's final play, to upend the Mustangs, 30-28, in Lone Star Conference action at Memorial Stadium...Complete Release

Trickery Highlights Sixth Straight Win for Gridiron Hogs

How many times do you head to a stadium and see an offensive lineman celebrating a touchdown, two safeties, a pick-six, an onside kick recovered by the kicker and the punter throwing a 24-yard spiral for a first down on fourth down? If you made the long trek to Carl Wooten Field at No Man's Land Stadium, you saw all of those things as Texas A&M-Kingsville went deep into its playbook to earn its sixth consecutive victory, a 53-39 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Javelinas (8-3, 6-3 LSC) clinched at least a share of third place in the Lone Star Conference after being selected to finish sixth in the preseason poll. The win streak is the longest since 2010.

Points came in bunches for the Hogs but the Aggies (2-9, 1-8 LSC)  stormed back in the fourth to make it a close one before A&M-Kingsville put the closing touches on its best season since 2010...Complete Release

Miraculous Comeback Lifts Buffs to 37-30 Victory in Overtime at Western New Mexico

Down 30-16 with 2:04 left, the West Texas A&M football team scored 14 points in a matter of 1:28 to tie the game and then scored a touchdown in overtime, while getting an interception to seal the win in a thrilling 37-30 victory at Western New Mexico Saturday afternoon.  

With the win, WT ended the regular season at 6-5 and 5-4 in Lone Star Conference play, while WNMU fell to 3-8 and 3-6 in league play.   

Junior quarterback Ethan Brinkley, who played the entire second half and overtime, got a big completion to junior JaQuarius Daniels for 19 yards and found senior Devon Paye out of the backfield for 33 yards to the WNMU 30 as the Buffs began the comeback.  Paye again came up huge with another catch for 25 yards to the WNMU five and the duo hooked up for a two-yard touchdown strike and a 30-23 deficit with 42 seconds left.

Senior kicker Conner Hollabaugh placed a perfect onside kick as it was recovered by the Buffs at the WT 46.  Brinkley hit junior wide receiver Junior Pome'e for 13 yards and found senior Chris Gilchrist for 41-yard touchdown pass with 26 seconds left in the fourth quarter...Complete Release

Rams Roll to 70-21 Win Against UTPB

The Angelo State football team was in an offensive rhythm Saturday night, topping UTPB 70-21 at LeGrand Stadium at First Community Credit Union Field in its season finale.

The 70 points in one game was the most in program history for the Rams (5-6, 4-5 LSC), breaking a record set in 1993 when ASU outscored Fort Lewis 69-0. The Rams also recorded their longest passing play ever in the game, when quarterback Jake Faber hit Mark Munson on the sideline and Munson ran the rest of the way for a 99-yard touchdown reception.

The Rams did it through the air and on the ground offensively in the game, gaining 322 yards passing and 258 with the run, while scoring six touchdowns passing and four rushing...Complete Release

Texas A&M-Kingsville at Oklahoma Panhandle State

The first and last meeting between these teams.  OPSU moves the ball well through the air, but it hasn't translated to points on the scoreboard, while the Javelinas are second in the LSC in scoring.  On the other side of the ball, TAMK is tops in the LSC defensively, and the Aggies are second to last.  The Hogs come into this game on a five game win streak, the longest in the LSC and should make it six.  TAMK 42-21

West Texas A&M at Western New Mexico

What a difference two weeks make.  Fresh off a 35-27 upset of Midwestern State, the 5-3 Buffalo offense has virtually not scoring a point for 119 minutes, gaining just 530 yards (435 before the garbage time TD drive last week), and committing 10 turnovers.  On the other hand, WNMU actually held the lead in Kingsville from the 13:20 mark of the first quarter until 3:42 in the third (39+ minutes), before getting run over by a pack of Hogs.  The Mustangs have consistently played LSC teams tough, and that consistency could carry them to their 4th win.  With that being said, I just have a hunch that WT will find a way to win.  WT 35-28

Eastern New Mexico at Midwestern State

This an interesting game.  You have the top two running teams in the LSC, the #3 and #4 in scoring, but MSU has a big edge in passing yards.  ENMU can make big plays with the pass, as witnessed by their 20 yards per completion and 11.8 yards per attempt, easily tops in the LSC.  The game could come down to run defense, and ENMU allows just 102 yards per game,  while MSU gives up 175.  Our preferred scenario (not b/c we like MSU more, but for excitement and LSC playoff participation), is for Quade Coward to lead the Mustangs on a game winning last minute drive - MSU 31-28

Tarleton State at Texas A&M Commerce

Usually ENMU is the overlooked team in the LSC, but this year it is Tarleton State.  The Texans four D2 losses have come to two likely NCAA playoff teams (SBU and MSU), likely bowl bound TAMK and WT when they were playing really well.  They were competitive in all of those games, losing three of them by a score.  They are in the middle of the LSC in scoring offense and defense, despite being lower on the charts in yardage, indicating that they are taking good advantage of their opportunities while blunting the opposition.  Zed Woerner has cooled off in recent weeks, and the Lions will pressure the QB all day.  We'll take a deeper look at the Lions next week as the prepare for the playoffs.  TAMC 42-21

UT-Permian Basin at Angelo State

There are several good games this weekend - this is not one of them.  UTPB is still looking for its first LSC and D2 win, while the Rams are looking to finish a disappointing season with a two game win streak. The offenses occupy the bottom of the LSC offensive charts, poor QB play for ASU, youth for the Falcons have been the culprits. The Rams defense has bee pretty good and that should carry them to a win today. Angelo State 24-14

#6 SR3 Azusa Pacific at #7 Colorado Mesa - defacto plaoff game, with loser almost certainly out of playoff selections.  APU 35-28

#1 Grand Valley State at Wayne State - SVSU gave GVSU all it could handle last week at home, and Wayne State is better than SVSU.  No matter, the Lakers will win and get the playoff bye next week. GV 35-21

#9 Ashland at Ohio Dominican -  AU still has a slim shot at the playoffs, but need several things to happen.  First they have to win and they will AU 28-24

Saginaw Valley State at #6 Ferris State - SVSU with a second straight chance to mess up someone's playoff plans.  They will come up short again.  FSU 35-24

#5 Truman State at McKendree - McKendree has been good, losing 2 D2 games (UIndy, SBU), but Truman has been better losing only to GVSU and Midwestern State. Truman 35-24
