LSC Scoop Game Previews and Predictions Week 5
Last saw us go 3-1 on our picks, missing out on the ACU-ASU game. For the season, our record is 18-6.
Angelo State 28, Abilene Christian 23 - After falling behind 9-0, the Rams shut down ACU's offense and scored the next 21 points to take the win. Struggles continue for ACU's offense, and Angelo State controlled the clock to the tune of a 2-1 margin.
Prediction ACU 31-17
West Texas A&M 24, Incarnate Word 0 - The Buffs offense was strangely quiet (361 yards, 2 TDs), but the defense more than took up the slack (146 total yards). UIW was unable to overcome the absence of starting QB Zach Rhodes.
Prediction WTAM 45-14
Tarleton State , Eastern New Mexico - The Texans racked up 564 yards, but two turnovers and a missed FG limited their scoring. ENMU actually pulled to within 5 points with eight minutes to play.
Prediction TSU 42-14
Midwestern State 45, Texas A&M-Kingsville 28 - Two touchdowns with under a minute to play in the first half gave the Mustangs a 35-7 lead - too much for the Javelinas to overcome, despite a strong second half. Bryan Ehrlich had 415 yards and 3 TDs passing in his first start for TAMK, but the Mustangs more than countered with 421 rushing yards, including TDs of 73 and 89 yards.

Mitchell Gale - became the second LSC quarterback to surpass 10,000 career passing yards. Still 1,871 behind Billy Malone.
Wesley Wood - surpassed 7,000 career passing yards.
Dakarai Pecikonis - is now in fifth place on Angelo State's career receiving yardage list, and needs 178 to reach 2,000.
Dustin Vaughn - can reach 5,000 career passing yards with 288 this week.
Sherman Batiste - moved up to #6 on Texas A&M-Kingsville career receiving yardage list. With 165 more, he will reach 2,000 for his career.
This week's games
Abilene Christian at Delta State - Before the season started, this was a can't miss game. Abilene Christian, a playoff team for six straight years, at Delta State, a national semi-finalist last year, and the national runner-up the year before. Instead, both teams are having disappointing seasons - the Wildcats are 2-2 and the Statesmen are 1-2. The loser of this game will almost certainly not make the playoffs this year.
Through 3 games, Delta State is averaging 380 yards and just 20 points per game. They run the ball well (212 ypg), but have struggled passing (168 ypg, 50.6 completion percentage). The defense has played very well, giving up just 19 points and 266 yards per game. Run defense has been okay (139 ypg), but the pass defense has been stellar (127 ypg, 85.1 efficiency rating). One good number for the Wildcats, DSU has just 4 sacks on the season.
Through 4 games, it's still difficult to believe the kind of season that ACU is having offensively. The Wildcats are averaging just 79 yards rushing per game, and 2.8 per carry, and no player has cracked the century mark for the season. Even more surprising, since the McMurry game, Mitchell Gale is completing less than 50% of his passes (57-115) for just 241 yards per game. The defense has struggled as well - allowing 462 yards over the last three games. After getting 10 sacks in week one, they have just 5 since.
With the injuries mounting and lack of consistency, it's hard to pick ACU on the road in a short week. Delta State 24-14.
Other games later.....
Angelo State at Eastern New Mexico - Angelo State may have turned around their season last weekend, knocking off Abilene Christian for the first time since 2005. The Rams did it with a stingy run defense (9 yards) and ball control offense (85 plays to 62 for ACU and nearly a 2-1 time of possession advantage). Eastern New Mexico played Tarleton State closer than most thought they would, pulling to within one score with just under 8 minutes to play. This could be the shortest game in the LSC time-wise. ENMU loves to run the ball (3rd in the LSC with 207 ypg) and ASU will likely have a good rushing game as well (ENMU is giving up 231 ypg).
Both teams are 2-2 coming into this week, but Angelo State's schedule has been tougher. Rams run to a 28-21 win at the Draw.
Texas A&M-Kingsville at Texas A&M-Commerce - Both teams last opponent was Midwestern State. Both teams trailed by a large halftime margin (23-0 for Commerce, 35-7 for Kingsville). The second halves were quite different. Commerce was outscored 42-14 and had no response for the Mustangs. Kingsville scored 3 second half TDs to pull within 14 two different times, but the Mustangs were able to respond each time and not let them any closer.
For the season, Commerce is last in the LSC in scoring, scoring defense and total offense, and 7th to total defense. The pass defense has been good, leading the LSC with just 159 ypg allowed. Kingsville is 6th in scoring offense, scoring defense and total defense, and 4th total offense. They still have not gotten the running game on track (77 ypg, 8th out of 9 LSC teams), but this could be the week as Commerce is last in rushing defense (248 ypg).
Kingsville is done with the early season gauntlet that saw them face the LSC preseason 1, 2, and 3 teams. They need to string together some wins, and should start this week. TAMK 35-14.
Incarnate Word at Midwestern State - This one could get ugly. After a week one stumble at Tarleton State, MSU has responded with 110 points and 1,170 yards of offense the past two weeks. They once again lead the LSC in rushing, with 314 ypg. They have four running backs with at least 145 yards rushing, and a per carry average of 6 yards or more (23.8 for Chauncey Harris!). The passing game needs to improve (7th in efficiency), especially when they face someone able to slow down the running game. The Cardinal defense has played well (4th in total defense), did especially well last week against West Texas A&M. But the offense has been anemic, 8th in scoring and yards gained.
Look for MSU to score early and often, cruising to a 56-14 win.
Game of the Week
Tarleton State at West Texas A&M - The important thing is that the Texans won, beating Eastern New Mexico 35-23. But it could (should) have been a larger margin, as scoring opportunities were thwarted by two interceptions, a missed field goal and a failed fourth down conversion kept Tarleton from a more impressive score. Those missed opportunities hurt them more last week, as they dropped a very winnable game to ACU. For the season, Tarleton is second in the LSC in yards gained (491) per game, but only fourth in scoring (28.7 points per game). The team is rushing for 240 ypg, second in the LSC. Jerome Regal was leading the LSC in rushing, but is out with an injury. In his place, Vaughn Smith and Zach Henshaw each rushed for over 100 yards against ENMU. Aaron Doyle is completing 68% of his passes for 251 ypg with 4 TDs and 4 Ints. Clifton Rhodes has 23 receptions for 264 yards to lead the receivers. Defensively they are 4th in scoring defense (24.7) and 3rd in yards allowed (346). Rufus Johnson has 5 TFL and 3 sacks, and Marquis Wadley is averaging 8.3 tackles per game and also has an interception.
As expected, WT is close to the top in the LSC offensively - second in scoring (38.8 ppg) and third in yards gained (486.8 ypg). They are running the okay (115 ypg, 4.5 per carry), but the passing game is their bread and butter (371 ypg, 14 TDs both 1st in the LSC). Dustin Vaughn has 1,300 yards, 13 TDs and just 2 Ints, and is tops among LSC starters with an efficiency rating of 170. Four Buffs have double digits in receptions, led by Torrence Allen's 26 for 418 yards and 3 TDs. Lance Ratliff has 6 TDs and is averaging 23.3 yards per catch. Khiry Robinson has 160 yards since returning two weeks ago, to keep teams honest. The defense has really come along, holding UIW to 146 total yards, and TAMK to just 285 the week before. They are tops in the LSC, allowing 18.5 points per game and 299 yards per contest. The run defense is giving up 108 yards per game, but only 56 per game the last three weeks. Opponents are passing for 190.8 yards per game. Taylor McCuller leads the team with 36 tackles, while Tyrell Higgins has 4 sacks and 6.5 TFL, Kyle Voss has 8.5 TFL, and Torian Oakley has 2 interceptions.
Tarleton looks to be even better than last year's squad that finished the season on a hot streak. But they haven't shown the ability to put teams away. That kept ENMU in the game last week, and helped ACU in taking one away the week before. WT has that instinct and it should help them win, 35-24.

Bailey had a week to remember leading the Cardinals to a pair of victories. He led the team back from a pair of deficits at #13 Midwestern State to lead the team to a 3-2 victory. He tied the game at 2-2 with 1:51 left in regulation and then finished off his hat-trick in the second overtime. It was MSU’s first home loss in 45 games. On Sunday, he scored on a penalty kick in a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Wayland Baptist. He finished with four goals for the week giving him nine on the season.

Had the game-winner, her first of the season, with 16 seconds remaining in the first overtime (99:44) for a 2-1 win at Midwestern State Friday. It was the first regular season road win at MSU since 2002. She had the game-tying assist in the 74th minute and followed with the first goal and second goal assist on Sunday at Abilene Christian. It was the first road conference weekend sweep for the Lady Buffs since 2009. It also was the first road win in school history at Abilene Christian.

Lone Star Conference play rolls on this week, including a match between the last
two unbeaten teams as Angelo State plays at West Texas A&M on Saturday. The
victor gets the early edge in the conference race.
LSC volleyball teams
are 78-59 overall this season. The squads are currently 10-16 combined versus
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 8-7 against the Heartland
Conference, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central
Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Shelbi Goode, Angelo State University, JR, Georgetown, Texas, Georgetown HS
Goode continued her strong start to the season last week to help the No. 11 Belles sweep their three matches. Goode, who leads the conference in kills and kills per set, finished last week with 42 kills and 5.25 kills per set. The transfer from Alabama hit for a .378 percentage and now has 166 kills on the season. Goode led the Belles with 17 kills in their 3-0 sweep of Tarleton State last Tuesday before adding 11 more versus McMurry, and another 14 at Abilene Christian on Saturday. Goode also had nine digs in the win over the Wildcats.
Chetina Chavis, University of the Incarnate Word, SR, Houston, Texas, Bush HS
Chavis led Incarnate Word to a perfect 2-0 week in conference play. She was the only player on the team to reach double digit kills in each match. She led the team with 14 kills and a .423 attack in a four-set win at Midwestern State. She came back with 10 kills, a .333 attack and three blocks in a three-set win at Cameron. She averaged 3.4 kills per set with a .383 attack for the week.
DEFENSIVE
Morgan Wilson, Texas Woman’s University, SO, White Oak, Texas, White Oak HS
Wilson helped the Pioneers to 2-1 record last week including sweeps at Texas A&M-Commerce and over Eastern New Mexico. She was the leader on defense with a team-best 56 digs including a game-high 20 against ENMU and a game-high 28 against No. 6 West Texas A&M. On the season she has 183 digs and currently ranked 8th in the Lone Star Conference.
Casey Fletcher, Midwestern State University, SO, Eddy, Texas, Moody HS
Fletcher enjoyed two her best performances of the season while helping Midwestern to a weekend split with conference foes Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The sophomore from Eddy averaged 5.33 digs per set while posting back-to-back 20-dig efforts for the first time this season. Fletcher totaled 23 digs Friday against Incarnate Word before notching 25 digs in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Hayes dished out 82 assists for an average of 11.7 per set to go along with 30 digs and five kills this past weekend as the No. 6 Lady Buffs remained perfect in LSC play with road wins at Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman’s. Hayes registered a double-double in both matches to improve her total to seven on the season. Her 82 assists this past weekend moves her to 10th all-time in school history with 1,964 career assists in just her second season at WT.
Danielle Suarez, University of the Incarnate Word, JR, San Antonio, Texas, Antonian Prep HS
Suarez directed a strong Incarnate Word attack that picked up a pair of road victories in conference play last week. Texas A&M Commerce Cross Country Preview

Preview: Texas A&M – Commerce
The Commerce men took another stride toward becoming one of
the elite LSC XC programs in 2011, finishing a strong 3rd place.
With the return of the entire team from last year and the addition of some
high-quality recruits, the Lions may be the only team that can compete with
ENMU this year. The women, on the other hand, have been headed in the opposite
direction of late. Last year’s last place finish was expected as the team
competed all year with 5 runners – the minimum allowed for team scoring. The
Commerce coaches have scoured the state (and beyond) for more kids and this
year, the Lady Lions should have the depth necessary to make a better showing
at conference.
MEN – TAMU-C was
a solid 3rd in 2011 – 31 points behind ACU, but 44 points ahead of 4th
place Angelo. They return their full squad from last year, bolstered by a solid
runner who ran XC in 2010. They added a quality recruiting class that includes
one 5A state track meet qualifier and another near-qualifier. This is
undoubtedly a team on the upswing.

- · Isaac Chelimo (14th) – Jr - had an All-Conference XC season in his first year after a transfer from Iowa State, but disappointingly did not score a single point at the conference track meet, which was hosted by Commerce – finishing 10th in the 800 and steeple and 15th in the 1500
- · Everett Wilder (15th) – Jr – he followed his All-Conference XC season by placing 5th in the 10K at the conference track meet
- · Alex Kimp (22nd) – Jr – did not have a good track meet, finishing 18th in the 10K and 28th in the 5K
- · Raymond Mata (23rd) – Jr – also 13th in the LSC steeplechase
- · Fredrick Kipsang (25th) – Jr – disappointed a bit in the XC meet after his transfer from Middle Tennessee State, but atoned by placing 7th in both the steeple and 5K at the conference track meet
- · Ross Hicks (35th) – came fairly close to scoring on the track in the 1500 as he finished 11th
- · Tyler Hemenway (65th) – after a poor finish in the XC meet, he barely missed the finals in the LSC 800, finishing 9th in the prelims by a fraction of a second
- · Raman Singh – did not run in the 2011 XC season, but finished 31st in the 2010 championships and could help the team this year
NEWCOMERS
- · Luis Romero – freshman from El Paso Montwood – 5th in the 5A 800 at the state meet, he also won the District 1-5A 800 and 1600 – excellent recruit who might help more on the track in the shorter distances
- · Dorian McCradic – freshman from Georgetown – running for one of the Texas XC hot-bed high schools, the won the District 16-5A 1600 and finished 3rd in the Region II-5A 1600 – also 19th at the 5A XC state meet
- · Elias Leija Garza – freshman from El Paso Eastwood – at the District 1-5A meet, he was 3rd in the 1600 and 4th in the 3200
- · Maron Weldai – freshman from Richardson Berkner – at the District 9-5A meet, he was 3rd in the 800 and 5th in the 1600
WOMEN – had to fight through a season with absolutely no depth, every member of the team had to run and finish to count in the team standings. So, finishing a distant 9th was not terribly surprising, particularly in a year when perennial last place finishers Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Oklahoma moved on to a new conference. While they will still have to struggle to get out of the LSC cellar, a recruiting class of 7 women will at least give the team a slight margin for error this season.
LOST FROM LAST SEASON – only loss was Audrie Vela, who
finished 51st (the 2nd highest finisher for the Lady
Lions), but who must have decided to return to the Valley, where she ran for
Edinburg HS.

Tarleton State Cross Country Preview

Preview: Tarleton State
Both Tarleton teams finished 6th last year. Both
teams return the vast majority of their teams from 2011, so they should be
better just for having another year of experience under their belts. I could
see both of their teams making up some ground and certainly moving into the top
5 as a team in 2012, particularly if their key returnees are able to move into
the top 10 on the men’s side and the top 5 on the women’s side.
WOMEN – they were
very close to being a top team last year. Finishing in 6th, they
were only 13 points behind ENMU and 6 points ahead of 7th place
Incarnate Word. With only one loss and a veteran squad, I do see them moving up
1-3 spots this year, if they can find strong #4 and #5 runners. Their top 3 last year are back this season,
but the dropoff to the #4 and #5 last year was substantial.
LOST FROM LAST SEASON - Only one loss, Vanessa Elizondo
Martinez, who was once a top-10 runner at the LSC XC meet, but who only
finished in 44th last year and did not run in the LSC track meet at
all
RETURNEES (with their LSC XC place in parentheses)
- · Lindsey Hinton (10th) – Sr - has established herself as one of the premier distance runners in the LSC as she had a fantastic LSC track meet – 1st in the 5K and 2nd in both the 1500 and the 10K – 28 huge points for TSU. If Hinton moves into the top 5 or even top 3 in the conference, Tarleton might have a chance to challenge Midwestern, Angelo and WT for a spot in the top 3 in XC.
- · Karen Ramming (15th) – So – she had a strong XC debut after a transfer from the University of Oregon, making All-Conference - then, she did run on the track in March, but must have sustained an injury and did not compete at the conference track meet
- · Celeste Meyer (17th) – Jr - one of the better distance runners on the track as well, she placed 5th in the 10K and 6th in the 5K at the LSC track meet last spring
- · Payton Shoush (40th) – Jr - one of the best halfmilers in the LSC – she won the 2011 LSC 800 title and was third last year – but, she has had some challenge with the much longer XC distance (6K or 3.6 miles)
- · Ashley Husbands (47th) – Jr - 13th in the LSC 1500 on the track
- · Kyndall Trnka (48th) – Sr - 12th in the LSC 800, she also ran the 1500 (19th) and 5K (27th)
- · Tiffany Fagg (49th) – So - but did not run on the track last spring
- · Hillari Raemsch (68th) – So - she ran pretty well in the steeple on the track, finishing 10th – just out of the money
- · Lauren Finley – RS Freshman - did not run in the conference XC and was well back in the pack in the LSC 1500 and 5K track meet, but she had a successful career running for a tiny TAPPS school (Boerne Geneva School) and simply may need a little more time to acclimate to the college running scene – still an interesting prospect
- · Bettye Campbell – freshman from Evant – 9th in the 1A 800 in Austin in both 2011 and 2012, she won the Region IV-1A 800 in 2012 and was the runnerup in 2011
- · Katelin Huckabee – Belton – in the strong District 12-5A, she was 2nd in the 3200 and 3rd in the 1600
- · Erica Saucedo – San Antonio Harlandale – at the District 28-4A meet, she was 3rd in the 3200 and 4th in the 1600
- · Brianna Wiggins – Killeen Shoemaker – 15th in the District 12-5A XC – could find no track and field stats
MEN
– like the Tarleton women, the men have their top people back on campus and the
2011 squad that finished 6th in the LSC meet – only 4 points behind
WT and just 2 points ahead of TAMU-K – was a very young squad. Tarleton picked
up of the premier recruits in the LSC in Dylan Willett of Smithson Valley, so
the future looks good for Tarleton. Good enough to move into the top 3?
Possibly. They will certainly have more depth than last season, when they only
ran 5-7 runners each meet.

- · Bryan Garcia – after a 49th place XC finish, he almost scored in the LSC track meet, finishing 10th in the 10K
- · Michael Barrientos – 59th in the XC meet, he did not run at the track meet in 2012
- · Jacob Milles – 61st in the XC meet, then a terribly disappointing conference track meet, 19th in the 1500 and 35th in a huge 5K field

Incarnate Word Cross Country Preview

Preview: Incarnate Word
UIW had a disappointing season for both their men and their
women in 2011, but Coach Derek Riedel spent the off-season doing some serious
re-tooling on both teams. Both teams look more competitive, particularly the
women’s team.
WOMEN – finished a disappointing 7th, only 6
points behind Tarleton, but 95 points ahead of 7th place TAMU-K.
But, they were led in 2011 by their youngsters, their top 2 finishers at
conference were freshmen. Recruiting went extremely well for UIW and I can see
them making a big jump in 2012.
LOST FROM LAST SEASON

Amanda McCoy – 46th in XC last fall,
she finished 12th in the LSC 10K on the track
·
Meagan Hoff – 52nd in XC, she did not
compete on the track last spring
RETURNING
·
Emma Jewell – So – one of the better freshmen in
the LSC in 2011, she finished 14th in XC, then came back in the
spring to place 5th in the LSC steeple
·
Irma Garza – So – 22nd in SC, then in the spring she just missed the finals
in the 800, finishing 10th in the prelims
·
Stephanie Glatt – Sr – 45th in XC,
she turned around and had a very good meet on the track last spring, placing in
both the steeple (7th) and the 5K (8th) – should be more
of a factor in XC in 2012 based on that performance

Alma Salinas – Sr – 50th in XC last
fall, then 12th in the 1500 on the track
·
Alyson Gonzales – Sr – ran a disappointing 63rd
at the XC meet, but almost placed in the 10K on the track, finishing 9th,
just seconds from scoring

Bailey Loyd – Jr – finished 28th in
the 2010 LSC XC meet, but has had an injury marred career. She was healthy
enough to run at the LSC Indoor Invitational and won the 5K and was 5th
in the mile, but was injured outdoors. If healthy, she could add immensely to
UIW’s XC hopes

Jackie Arnold – redshirt freshman – ran on the
track last spring, with a 19th place in the 800

Marine Vaillant – junior from France – found
good times for her – a 4:37 in the 1500 (a 4:36 won conference last spring),

Laredo United South – won the District 29-5A 1600 and 3200 and placed 5th
in the Region IV-5A 3200, narrowly missing a trip to state – 84th at

track and field HS – I could not find anything for her in 2012, so she might be

ACU Cross Country Preview

2012 Cross Country
Review: ACU
This will be a very strange season for ACU. There is
probably no way that they will be contenders on the men’s or women’s side. ACU
released their distance/XC coach after last season (he is now at Claflin in
South Carolina) and was not able to procure a replacement until the 2nd
week of the current school year. ACU will have enough people to field a team of
5 at most meets, if they do not have any injuries whatsoever. On paper, they
have 7 men and 6 women on the roster, with several people in each gender being
walk-ons. New XC coach, Chris Ward, has a big task ahead of him, but he had
success at NAIA Oklahoma City University, so he should be up to the task.
MEN – finished 2nd
in 2011 with 68 points, a full 40 points behind ENMU and 31 points ahead of
TAMU-C. Both of those squads come back loaded this year.
LOST FROM LAST SEASON
·
Fabian Wessel-Terharn – had a great XC season,
placing 5th in the LSC, but was injured the entire track season,
only placing 11th in the steeple at conference and heading home to
Germany after the season for good
·
Spencer Lynn – coming back from a serious
injury, he placed 11th at the LSC XC meet, then sustained another
serious injury between the indoor and outdoor season and looks like he is gone
for good from the program
·
Will Pike – 17th in the conference XC

Erik Forrister – 16th in the XC season,
he just missed scoring at the LSC track meet, finishing 9th in the
5K and 11th in the 10K – a strong XC man

Gary Duncan – 51st in the XC season
and only 34th in the LSC 5K on the track

James Grantham – 63rd in XC – immense
potential, but has never been able to put that potential to work while at ACU –
not sure if he has any eligibility left for XC, but he is listed on the roster
·
Banjo Jaiyesimi – did not run XC conference in
2011, but was 3rd in the 800 and 8th in the 1500 at the
LSC track meet – more of a 400/800 man than a distance runner, but he will need
to run for sure to fill out the squad
NEWCOMERS

Xavier King – freshman from Ajax, Ontario,
Pickering HS – a serious candidate for Freshman of the Year in the conference –
at the Ontario provincial championships in 2012, he won the 2000 steeple (yep,
they run the steeple in HS in Canada), was 3rd in the 1500 and 4th
in the 5K. His 2000 steeple time would have won the Texas Relays HS Inv steeple
by over 10 seconds – I found a 3:52 1500 and 8:23 3K time – this kid is good

Taylor Ochs – freshman from Midland Christian HS
– 32nd in the TAPPS 4A XC and 3rd in the TAPPS 4A 800
last spring. Also 3rd in the Texas Tech HS Inv Indoor 800, so he has
some indoor experience.
WOMEN – ACU
finished in unfamiliar territory at the LSC meet, finishing 4th,
only 3 points behind 3rd place Angelo State and 5 points ahead of
ENMU. Most of their team is back, but they didn’t add any additional firepower
to last’s years team and they have one notable subtraction from the squad.
Looks like they may fall another place or 2 in 2012.
LOST FROM LAST SEASON

Chloe Susset is on campus, but apparently not
eligible for the fall – she was the conference runnerup in XC in 2011, then
came back to win the steeple and the 1500 and finishing 2nd in the
5K to rack up 28 points at the conference track meet – the most dominant
distance runner in the LSC
RETURNEES
·
Alyse Goldsmith – Sr - arguably the best
distance runner in the LSC in 2010-11 (when she was 2nd in the XC
Meet and won the 5K/10K on the track), she is still right at the top of the
LSC. Last year, she was 3rd in the XC meet and then 3rd
in the 10K and 4th in the 5K last spring. Should still be right at
the top of the LSC.

Ayesha Rumble – Sr - 18th in the XC
meet, she came back to place 2nd in the LSC 800 and 5th
in the 1500 on the track – she is also on the ACU 4x400 relay, showing great
versatility
·
Emily Hill – So - finished a disappointing 59th
in the conference XC meet, but came back last spring to finish 4th
in the LSC 800
·
Mariah Welty-Kile – So – military vet who ran
pretty well last fall, finishing 29th at the LSC XC meet, but did
not run on the track in the spring
·
Rachel Belcher – Jr – 67th at the LSC
XC meet, but did not run in the spring on the track
·
Kayla Calvert – Jr – she placed 6th
in the LSC pole vault in 2011, but has apparently switched over to distances
after training with the distance runners all last spring
NEWCOMERS – none, since there was no one to recruit distance
runners at ACU in the late spring/summer – I imagine ACU may pick up a distance
runner or 2 at mid-term, but that won’t help the XC team

Wright named LSC Assistant Commissioner - LSC Office
Lone Star Conference Commissioner Stan Wagnon announced Monday that Tommy Wright
has been named Assistant Commissioner for Corporate Sales and
Marketing.
Wright, who started his role in early September, is responsible for league-wide corporate partnership opportunities and sponsorships at the Lone Star Football Festival and Championship Tournament events, along with developing and maintaining a conference marketing plan.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled about adding Tommy to our staff,” Wagnon said. “We have asked Tommy to focus on sales and to cultivate corporate partnerships that will benefit the Lone Star Conference and its constituents. Tommy is an ideal fit for this position, starting with his ties to the area, his education in a nationally recognized sports sponsorship program at Baylor, and his experience with sales throughout Texas while working with Daktronics. I’m confident he will be an outstanding addition to our team.”
Previously, he sold partnerships for Daktronics Sports Marketing all over the state of Texas including The Valley, San Antonio, East Texas and the DFW Metroplex.
Wright graduated from Baylor in May 2011 with a double major in Sports Sponsorship & Sales and Management. While at Baylor, he was an intern in the athletic marketing department. Wright helped manage tailgating at Floyd Casey Stadium and ran in-game promotions for the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Additionally, he was President of the Sports Sponsorship and Sales Club.
A native of Plano, Texas and Algonquin, Ill., Wright now lives in McKinney, with his fiancé, Lindsey.
