LSC Scoop Power Poll and Player Superlatives Week Three

Topsy-turvy weekend at the Lone Star Football Festival...

  1. West Texas A&M - Final score a bit misleading, but Buffs were clearly the better team Saturday
  2. Texas A&M-Kingsville - Minimal offense and turnovers lead to big loss at Cowboy Stadium
  3. Abilene Christian - Things were looking bleak, but a big second half prevented second straight loss
  4. Tarleton State - Texans were oh so close to back-to-back wins over MSU and ACU
  5. Midwestern State - Blowout win and drop 2 spots?  #'s2-5 are very fluid w/H2H dictating this week.
  6. Angelo State - Rams only trailed 17-10 in third quarter, but it was all Blazers after that
  7. Eastern New Mexico - Hounds gut one out on the big stage
  8. Incarnate Word - Were one mistake away from a conference win
  9. Texas A&M Commerce - If it could go wrong Thursday, it did

Week Three Superlatives
Offense - Chauncey Harris, Midwestern State - Harris led the Mustangs with 148 yards rushing on just four carries and had touchdown runs of 55 and 59 yards in their blowout win over Texas A&M Commerce. He got his first two carries on the final drive of the first half, picking up 16 and 18 yards, helping MSU get into field goal range, then helped put the game out of touch with his two long TD runs in the third quarter.

Defense - Jayson Serda, Eastern New Mexico - Serda was already having an excellent game, with 9 tackles and a broken up pass, but made the play of the year for ENMU.  Trailing 28-24, UIW was driving down the field, looking to take the lead, when Serda picked off a Zach Rhodes pass and returned it 81 yards for a touchdown, preserving the big win at the Lone Star Football Festival.

Special Teams - Morgan Lineberry, Abilene Christian - Lineberry was perfect from the field, converting 4 PATs and 2 field goals, including a 30 yard kick with 12 minutes to play.  His final field goal would prove to be the difference in ACU's comeback 34-31 win over Tarleton State.
