Texas A&M-Kingsville 16, Abilene Christian 13
The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team will find itself climbing further up the NCAA DII rankings this week as the Javelinas (2-0) snapped an 8-game losing streak to Abilene Christian with a 16-13 victory over the 9th-ranked Wildcats.
Down 6-0, the Javelina defense spurred the comeback from 6-0 down with a stifling defensive effort allowing just 224 total yards in the game. They allowed just three yards of offense and no first downs to the Wildcats in the second and third quarters.
Meanwhile, the offense overcame some costly penalties to put 16 unanswered points on the board for a 16-6 lead early in the fourth quarter on Matt Stoll’s third field goal of the game with 14:57 remaining. (Click here for complete release)
Tarleton State 20, Midwestern State 17
The Tarleton Texans opened up their 2012 campaign against the No. 4 team in the nation, and ended it in dramatic fashion with a nail-biting 20-17 victory over Midwestern State Saturday night.
Marquis Wadley picked off a Brandon Kelsey pass with 47 seconds remaining in the game as the Mustangs were marching down the field for either a game-tying field goal or the game-winning touchdown. The pick ended MSU’s chances as Tarleton escaped with a three-point victory over the No. 4 Mustangs. (Click here for complete release)
West Texas A&M 57, Western State 20
West Texas A&M senior quarterback Dustin Vaughan tied his career-high with five touchdown passes as the Buffaloes opened the 2012 home slate with a 57-20 win over visiting Western State Colorado University at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium Saturday evening. With the win, the Buffs improved to 1-1 on the year, while the Mountaineers fell to 0-2.
With the win, Carthel tied former Buffalo head coach Joe Kerbal for the most wins in school history with 68. Kerbel coached the Buffs from 1960-1970 with a record of 68-42-1. Carthel now is 68-20 since he began in 2005. (Click here for complete release)
Eastern New Mexico 38, Sul Ross State 35
Junior running back Derek Kendall-Campbell’s (Tulsa, Okla. / Manhattan HS / Hutchinson CC) 17- yard touchdown run, with 1:04 left, capped the back-and-forth action of Saturday afternoon’s home opener and lifted the Eastern New Mexico University football team (1-1) to a 38-35 victory over Sul Ross State (0-2), at Greyhound Stadium. The victory was the first for new head Coach, Josh Lynn, who posted a 12-5 record at Greyhound Stadium, as an ENMU player, from 1998-2000.
Eastern’s ground game amassed 301 yards, marking the first contest with at least 300 yards rushing, since a 357-yard performance at Oklahoma Panhandle State, in the 2007 finale. Senior quarterback Wesley Wood (Muleshoe, Texas/Muleshoe HS), already the programs’ career leader in total offense, paced the Hounds, with a career-high 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 13 of his 15 pass attempts for 128 yards and one touchdown. (Click here for complete release)
UT-San Antonio 27, A&M-Commerce 16
A&M-Commerce's first-ever game against a Division I FBS opponent is one that will be remembered for quite a while as the Lions gave UT-San Antonio a fight, rallying in the second half before falling to the Roadrunners 27-16 at the Alamodome.
Quarterback Deric Davis completed 18-of-32 passes for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions. Wide receiver Tyler Rawlings led the way for the Lions with six catches for 53 yards while also completing an 18-yard pass himself. Yardage-wise, Garrett Smith tallied 80 yards on three catches, including a 61-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. Tevin Godfrey added five catches for 32 yards and a touchdown as well. Chadron State 19, Angelo State 7
The Chadron State (Neb.) Eagles forced four critical turnovers, two by cornerback Conor Casey, in defeating the Angelo State Rams 19-7 in a non-conference game at San Angelo Stadium.
The win improved Chadron State to 1-1 while Angelo State fell to 1-1.
The Eagles forced a pair of turnovers inside their own 20-yard line, another on a special teams play to set up a critical third quarter touchdown and the final time to halt a Ram fourth quarter drive. (Click here for complete release)

Incarnate Word traveled to Sam Houston State, the #1 team in FCS, on Saturday night and lost, 54-7 at Elliot Bowers Stadium.
The Cardinals (1-1) played the Bearkats (1-0) tightly in the first half, but SHSU kicked things into high gear in the second half. UIW forced a pair of turnovers in the first half, including an interception by junior Chavis Barron (Texas City/Texas City HS). (Click here for complete release)
