1. Texas A&M-Kingsville - Defense harassed Mitchell Gale all night long, offense needs to finish drives
2. Tarleton State - Texans had the stronger running game, defense with two picks
3. Midwestern State - Special teams miscues and interceptions hurt Mustangs
4. Abilene Christian - Offense shut down, but defense did not allow red zone TD
5. West Texas A&M - 677 yards of offense, could have been more...easily

7. Texas A&M-Commerce - Held their own at FBS UTSA, outplayed Roadrunners in 2nd half

Week Two Superlatives
Offense - Dustin Vaughn, West Texas A&M - Got back on track with 409 yards and 5 TDs, completing 22 of 32 passes with no interceptions, despite sitting out the final 20 minutes of the ballgame.

Defense - Marquis Wadley, Tarleton State - Not only led Tarleton State with 12 tackles, but also ended Midwestern State's final threat with an interception, giving the ball back to the Texans with under a minute to play in the game.

Special Teams - Angel Millan, Texas A&M-Kingsville - Millan did his part in helping TAMK flip the field position game after the first quarter, averaging 45.2 yards on five punts in the final three quarters, pinning ACU at their own 6 yard line twice in the fourth quarter.

Big Reshuffle in Division II Coaches' Poll

Previous Top 5 teams Northwest Missouri State, Midwestern State (Texas) and Wayne State (Mich.) all lost this past Saturday, causing a big shakeup in week two of the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Pittsburg State (Kan.) beat Central Oklahoma, 34-19, and held onto the top spot with 29 first-place votes. Minnesota-Duluth remains No. 2, followed by Colorado State-Pueblo, Grand Valley State (Mich.) and Winston-Salem St. (N.C.) as the new Top 5.

Northwest Missouri State fell 10 spots to No. 13 after its 31-21 loss to Central Missouri, while Midwestern State (Texas) dropped 12 places to No. 16 after getting beat by Tarleton State (Texas), 20-17. Wayne State (Mich.) had the biggest fall, going from No. 5 to No. 19 after losing to Ashland (Ohio), 7-0. With that victory, Ashland (Ohio) jumps into the poll at No. 22 this week, along with another newcomer, No. 23 Colorado School of Mines, who beat South Dakota Mines, 71-7. There is only one Top 25 matchup this week as No. 12 Bloomsburg (Pa.) plays host to No. 21 Kutztown (Pa.).

LSC Football Weekly Release: Lone Star Football Festival on tap

LSC FOOTBALL
This week all nine Lone Star Conference football teams will play at Cowboys Stadium as part of the 2012 Lone Star Football Festival presented by Firestone.  The event includes four league contests, one non-conference game and a high school contest.
    

Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State top the LSC standings after upset wins over Abilene Christian and Midwestern State, respectively, last week.
    

LSC football teams are 8-8 overall this season.  The squads are 2-3 combined versus the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.

FIRST DOWN

• Three LSC teams are ranked in AFCA poll (Sept. 10) with No. 14 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 16 Midwestern State and No. 20 Abilene Christian.
• The MSU-A&M-Commerce contest Thursday will be televised by the CBS Sports Network as the NCAA Division II Football Game of the Week.
• Week two included a pair of 100-yard rushing performances (Regal, TSU; Aldridge, WT), two 300-yard passing efforts (Vaughan, WT; Poppell, TAMUK) along with three 100-yard receiving performances (Slaughter and Allen, WT; Batiste, TAMUK).

LONE STAR FOOTBALL FESTIVAL
The Lone Star Football Festival, a three-day, six-game affair which includes all nine LSC football teams, is set for September 13-14-15 at Cowboys Stadium.  The event starts on Thursday with Midwestern State versus Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m.  The game will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
      

Friday’s lineup includes one LSC game and a high school contest, with Incarnate Word versus Eastern New Mexico at 3:30 p.m., followed by defending 5A state champion Southlake Carroll against Temple at 7:30 p.m.
      

On Saturday, the action starts at Noon with Angelo State in opposition to two-time NCAA Division II national champion Valdosta State from the Gulf South Conference, followed by a pair of conference clashes with Tarleton State against Abilene Christian at 4 p.m. and Texas A&M-Kingsville versus West Texas A&M at 8 p.m.
       

 The 2011 Lone Star Football Festival drew an LSC attendance record 24,837 fans to a tripleheader of games, which included Midwestern State defeating Texas A&M-Commerce 63-17 in the Harvey Martin Classic, North Alabama stopping Abilene Christian 23-17, and West Texas A&M using a quick start to top Texas A&M-Kingsville 42-21.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Jerome Regal, Tarleton State University, SO, RB, Garland, Texas, Naamon Forest HS
Regal led the Texans to an upset of No. 4 Midwestern State in the season opener Saturday. The sophomore workhorse carried the ball 33 times for a total of 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Regal averaged 4.6 yards per carry in the contest, and was the major offensive cog in the Texans’ 20-17 win over the Mustangs.

CO-DEFENSIVE
Marquis Wadley, Tarleton State University, JR, LB, Mesquite, Texas, Mesquite HS
Wadley showed why he led the conference in tackles last season as the junior linebacker racked up 12 total tackles in Tarleton’s win over No. 4 Midwestern State. The Mesquite native recorded seven solo tackles, a half-tackle for loss, and a pass break-up. Wadley’s biggest play of the game though was an interception with 48 seconds left that ended the Mustang’s comeback hopes and sealed the Texans’ victory.

Marquis Singleton, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, SR, DE, Decatur, Ill., Harmony Community
Singleton was a force from his defensive end position as the Javelinas upset the Wildcats 16-13. He finished the game with just four tackles but three were for losses of 15 yards. He had two sacks of ACU’s Mitchell Gale including one on 4th-and-9 to seal the win for the Hogs. His two sacks match his career total coming into the game.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Matt Stoll, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, JR, K, College Station, Texas, Consolidated
Stoll connected on three field goals and an extra point accounting for 10 of the Javelinas 16 points in a win over No. 9 Abilene Christian. He had FGs of 35, 29 and 31 yards with the last giving the visitors a 16-6 lead. He now has six FGs in two games this season.
