Abilene Christian 51, McMurry 0
Sophomore defensive end Nick Richardson had six of his team's nine sacks as 10th-ranked Abilene Christian University introduced McMurry University to NCAA Division II with a 51-0 win in both teams' season opener Saturday night in Shotwell Stadium.
Richardson's six sacks tied the ACU record set by James Henderson in 1997, and led a Wildcat defense that held McMurry to 301 total yards, all but 12 yards of it through the air, broke up six passes and recovered a fumble. Warhawk quarterback Jake Mullin completed 37 of 59 passes for 289 yards, and was intercepted once. His counterpart, preseason NCAA Division II player of the year Mitchell Gale, completed 19 of 28 passes for 290 yards and one TD in three quarters of play.

Texas A&M-Kingsville 35, Central Washington 7
The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas raced past Central Washington 35-7 on the new turf at Javelina Stadium Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
Jonathan Woodson led the way for the Javelinas (1-0) with a pair of 14-yard scoring runs and senior Nate Poppell threw for two more in the win. Woodson had 92 yards of total offense.
After a CWU missed field goal, Matt Stoll opened the scoring for the Javelinas with field goals from 23 and 29 yards. Woodson displayed his elusiveness on the next score as he danced through the defense for a 14-yard score and a 12-0 lead with 1:20 left in the first half.

Incarnate Word 19, Texas College 12
The first game of the 2012 season was a sloppy affair for University of the Incarnate Word football team, but they prevailed 19-12 over visiting Texas College on Saturday night at Benson Stadium.
The Cardinals (1-0) never trailed in the game, but never led by more than seven points. They fumbled the ball seven times and the Steers (0-2) were able to recover three of them and turned them into a pair of touchdowns. The two teams combined to convert only 1-of-5 extra-point tries as UIW had two blocked and the Steers missed a pair

Southeastern Oklahoma 31, A&M-Commerce 6
A&M-Commerce struggled to find its footing in the season opener at Memorial Stadium, falling behind early as it drops a 31-6 decision to Southeastern Oklahoma State.
With a handful of new faces, especially on the offensive side of the ball, the Lions were eager to see some results right out of the gates. But the offensive was unable to find its groove as A&M-Commerce generated just 185 yards of total offense, compared to 335 for the Savage Storm.

Angelo State 42, Western State 14
The Angelo State Rams scored 35 unanswered points after being down 7-0 to Western State Colorado, en route to a 42-14 victory at San Angelo Stadium in front of 6,433.
Much like last year with Jeffrey Miller returning the opening kick for touchdown, a special teams play sparked Angelo State. Jared Ross blocked a Brennan Jacobs punt and Courtney Moore recovered it and took it in for a 10 yard touchdown.

New Mexico Highlands 42, Eastern New Mexico 14
Defensive lineman Noah Brown (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M./Valencia HS) led a strong defensive effort for the Eastern New Mexico University football team (0-1), but the Greyhounds dropped a 42-14 decision to cross-state rival, New Mexico Highlands (1-0) in the season opener for both teams, at Perkins Stadium. The Greyhound defense held the Cowboys to three offensive yards in a scoreless first quarter.
Neither team could get on track offensively early on as the teams combined for a total of 24 yards in the opening 15 minutes, with the Greyhound defense stopping the Cowboy ground game for -6 yards. It appeared as if Eastern was in control of the game, after capping a three-play, 29-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge from Christian Long (RB, Jr., Memphis, Tenn./Dobson HS/Eastern Arizona), early in the second half. Senior quarterback Wesley Wood (Muleshoe, Texas/Muleshoe HS) followed with a one-yard plunge of his own, to stake ENMU to a 14-0 advantage, with 5:22 left in the opening half.

Colorado State-Pueblo 44, West Texas A&M 34
The 24th-ranked West Texas A&M football team opened the 2012 season with a 44-34 loss at sixth-ranked Colorado State-Pueblo, Thursday evening. The Buffs were led by junior wide receivers Torrence Allen and Lance Ratliff as the duo went a combined 17 catches for 317 yards and three scores.
In a game that saw the teams’ combine for 1,042 yards of offense, the Buffs led 546 to 516 in total yardage, but two trips to the red zone coming away with no points either time proved costly. The Buffs held a 25-23 lead in first downs, while CSUP had 304 yards on the ground and the Buffs had 380 through the air.
