Javs Upset No. 9 ACU 16-13
Kingsville football team will find itself climbing further up the NCAA DII rankings this week as the Javelinas (2-0) snapped an 8-game losing streak to Abilene Christian with a 16-13 victory over the 9th-ranked Wildcats.
Down 6-0, the Javelina defense spurred the comeback from 6-0 down with a stifling defensive effort allowing just 224 total yards in the game. They allowed just three yards of offense and no first downs to the Wildcats in the second and third quarters.

#24 Javelinas shut down #9 ACU to take 16-13 win at Shotwell
ABILENE – Matt Stoll kicked three field goals, Nate Poppell threw for 372 yards and defensive-minded Texas A&M-Kingsville held off No. 9 Abilene Christian University, 16-13, on Saturday night at Shotwell Stadium.
The No. 24 Javelinas improved to 2-0 on the season, and 1-0 in the Lone Star Conference South Division, while ACU fell to 1-1 and 0-1 in the LSC. The win ended ACU's eight-year winning streak in the 47-year series, which Kingsville dominated from 1984-2003, and snapped the Wildcats' 12-game regular season home winning streak.
Kingsville's fierce defense held preseason NCAA Division II player of the year Mitchell Gale to his lowest output in three years, and broke a stretch of 23 straight games in which he had thrown a touchdown. Gale, a senior, completed 13 of 31 passes for 137 yards. After scoring 51 points in its season-opener last week against McMurry, ACU could only muster 11 first downs and 224 yards of offense against the Javelinas.

Chadron State Defeats Angelo State 19-7
SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Chadron State (Neb.) Eagles forced four critical turnovers, two by cornerback Conor Casey, in defeating the Angelo State Rams 19-7 in a non-conference game at San Angelo Stadium.
The win improved Chadron State to 1-1 while Angelo State fell to 1-1.
The Eagles forced a pair of turnovers inside their own 20-yard line, another on a special teams play to set up a critical third quarter touchdown and the final time to halt a Ram fourth quarter drive.

A&M-COMMERCE HOLDS ITS OWN, FALLING 27-16 AT UT-SAN ANTONIO
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A&M-Commerce's first-ever game against a Division I FBS opponent is one that will be remembered for quite a while as the Lions gave UT-San Antonio a fight, rallying in the second half before falling to the Roadrunners 27-16 at the Alamodome.
"We played well at times, and I think we proved to ourselves a little bit that if we play the way we're capable of, we can compete with anyone," said head coach Guy Morriss. "We made some mistakes and that inconsistency is what cost us. We played much better in the second half, holding them to just three points. I think we did some things well today, so now we just have to improve on those moving forward."

FOOTBALL FALLS AT SAM HOUSTON STATE
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS – Incarnate Word traveled to Sam Houston State, the #1 team in FCS, on Saturday night and lost, 54-7 at Elliot Bowers Stadium. (Box Score)

The Cardinals had a number of highlights in the game, but none bigger than when they took the lead 7-6 on a Zach Rhodes (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) 18-yard screen pass to Trent Rios (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley HS) with 5:13 remaining in the first half. That capped a 4-play, 36-yard drive that started with Barron’s interception. Jake Wilcox’s (San Antonio/Reagan HS) extra point gave the Cardinals the lead.

Gridiron Hounds Rally Past Sul Ross State
BLACKWATER DRAW— Junior running back Derek Kendall-Campbell’s (Tulsa, Okla. / Manhattan HS / Hutchinson CC) 17- yard touchdown run, with 1:04 left, capped the back-and-forth action of Saturday afternoon’s home opener and lifted the Eastern New Mexico University football team (1-1) to a 38-35 victory over Sul Ross State (0-2), at Greyhound Stadium. The victory was the first for new head Coach, Josh Lynn, who posted a 12-5 record at Greyhound Stadium, as an ENMU player, from 1998-2000.
Eastern’s ground game amassed 301 yards, marking the first contest with at least 300 yards rushing, since a 357-yard performance at Oklahoma Panhandle State, in the 2007 finale. Senior quarterback Wesley Wood (Muleshoe, Texas/Muleshoe HS), already the programs’ career leader in total offense, paced the Hounds, with a career-high 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 13 of his 15 pass attempts for 128 yards and one touchdown.
