Men's Basketball

Five Lone Star Conference men’s basketball teams were selected to continue their seasons at the South Central Regional the NCAA announced tonight.

        The bracket includes UT Permian Basin, West Texas A&M, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas A&M-Kingsville.  With LSC teams composing more than half the bracket a conference team is guaranteed to play in the final.

        The men’s regional will be hosted by top seed Colorado Mines on March 11, 12 and 14 in Golden, Colo.

        In the opening round, UTPB faces TAMUK, WT plays A&M-C, TSU takes on Fort Lewis, and Mines plays Arkansas-Fort Smith.

        The eight regional champions will advance to the quarterfinals in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Division II Men’s Elite Eight March 22-25 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Women's Basketball

Four Lone Star Conference women’s basketball teams were selected to continue their seasons at the South Central Regional basketball tournament the NCAA announced Sunday.

        Angelo State, West Texas A&M, Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State, who won the women’s LSC Tournament title and automatic qualification Sunday afternoon were included in the eight-team field which will be hosted by top seed CSU-Pueblo.  The regional is March 10, 11, and 13 in Pueblo, Colo.

        The quarterfinal match-ups include ASU versus St. Edward’s, WT and Regis, ENMU faces UC-Colorado Springs, and TSU takes on CSU-Pueblo.

        The eight regional champions advancing to the Women’s Elite Eight will be seeded by the Women's Basketball Committee after completion of the regionals. The 2017 NCAA Division II Women’s Elite Eight will be held at Alumni Hall in Columbus, Ohio, March 21, 22 and 24.

The Lone Star Conference will be represented by 47 athletes at the 2017 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 9-11 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex, as part of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships Festival.

On the men’s side, LSC Champion Texas A&M-Commerce has a league-best 12 qualifiers.  Angelo State will send six participants, Texas A&M-Kingsville has five, West Texas A&M three, Eastern New Mexico two and Tarleton State one.

WT, the league champions, leads the women’s selections with six participants, while ASU has four, TAMUK and A&M-C three and Eastern New Mexico two.

A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
