UIW opens football practices
The University of the Incarnate Word is inviting fans to attend preseason practices for its inaugural football season. The Cardinals will hit the field at Benson Stadium at 2 p.m. on Aug. 6 and will work out for 16 straight days through Aug. 21.
Practice days with a single workout at 2 p.m. are scheduled Aug. 6-10 and Aug. 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20. Days with two practices (at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.) are Aug. 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21.

Landon McCall piled up plenty of awards during his high school baseball career.
But with his senior season winding down, the Grape Creek star still hadn’t been awarded the one thing he wanted most — an athletic scholarship that would let him keep playing baseball.
So when Tarleton State University head baseball coach Bryan Conger called and offered McCall a chance to play in Stephenville, it didn’t take McCall long to start packing his bags.
