West Texas A&M Coach a Candidate at UNM - Ken Sickenger, Albuquerque Journal
Pencil another coach with impeccable credentials onto the University of New Mexico’s list of women’s basketball coaching candidates.
Krista Gerlich, who has won everywhere she’s been as a coach and a player, has surfaced as a fourth rumored person of interest in UNM’s search for Don Flanagan’s replacement. Gerlich recently completed her fifth season as head coach at Division II West Texas A&M.
According to several sources, Gerlich was in Albuquerque over the weekend to interview for the UNM job, which came open when Flanagan stepped down April 4. Gerlich declined comment when contacted Monday by phone.
Kent Johnson, West Texas A&M’s associate athletic director for media relations, declined comment on UNM’s job opening but said several Division I schools have expressed interest in Gerlich during her tenure with the Lady Buffs.
