Taking the mound Saturday against his old teammates was more difficult for Angelo State’s Scott Crook than he expected.
Crook had to battle a serious case of nerves before settling down and shutting down Tarleton State’s bats in a 4-3 victory over the Texans.
Crook, a Rider graduate who played for Tarleton State last season before transferring to Angelo State, scattered seven hits over 8 1/3 innings and allowed only one earned run. Crook struck out seven and didn’t get the decision as the Rams swept both games of a doubleheader.
“I had huge butterflies before the game,” said Crook, who is 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.33. “But I knew that if I hit my spots and threw strikes, I could have success against them like I did in intrasquads last year. I would have liked to get the win but we came out with the victory as a team, and that’s what matters.”
