Three weeks to the day after Sam McElroy resigned at Tarleton State to become defensive line coach at Texas Tech, the opening for a head football coach at Tarleton has officially been posted.
The search stalled recently while the process of making the opening official took place. The job was officially posted on Tarleton's human resources Web site Tuesday afternoon.
The posting lists pay for the position as $95,000 annually, and says at least five years of college coaching as a coordinator is preferred.
Athletic Director Lonn Reisman said 40-50 potential candidates have already expressed interest in the position, and he expects official applications to begin coming in immediately.
"We are still on the same timeline," Reisman said. "We still plan to have a new coach in place by the middle of March."
Plans will go forward with a 4-6 person search committee reviewing all applicants and choosing finalists, according to Reisman.
McElroy resigned on Feb. 2.
Cary Fowler, who has served as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Tarleton for two seasons, was immediately named interim head coach.
