CANYON, Texas  – West Texas A&M head football coach Mike Nesbitt announced the 2015 recruiting class Wednesday on National Signing Day as the Buffs inked 33 players with 19 on offense, 13 on defense and one special teams.

"Today we added some tremendously talented young men to our football program," Nesbitt said.  "They are exceptional individuals and I am very pleased with the overall depth of this signing class.  We have reached many of our needs in each position group and the future is very bright for West Texas A&M football."

Offensively, the Buffs signed six wide receivers, five offensive linemen, three running backs, three athletes who can play slot receiver or tight end (ATH) and two quarterbacks.

"This has been an exciting and fun filled recruiting season," WT Offensive Coordinator Stephen Lee said.  "We were able to fill many needs on the offensive side of the ball.  We not only found some really good football players, but some really solid guys with great families who believe in what we are about at WT.  A number of these athletes are multisport athletes having experienced success on many stages.

On the defensive side, the Buffs inked 13 players with six defensive backs, five defensive linemen and two linebackers.

"Last year we really focused some much needed effort on infusing youth in our linebacker positions," WT Defensive Coordinator Nick Paremski said.  "With such a talented group of linebackers in the 2014 recruiting class, we were able to really focus our efforts on the defensive line and secondary this year.  I'm extremely excited about the size and talent Coach Watson was able to add to our defensive line.  In the secondary, we were able to add some guys with great length and speed.  It wouldn't surprise me to see a few of these guys step in and help us immediately on defense in the fall."

This fall will be Nesbitt's third year at the helm of the program.  He is 17-8 with a berth in the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2013.

The 2015 season gets underway Thurs., Sept. 3, at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium against Azusa Pacific who finished 23rd with a 10-1 record in the final American Football Coaches Association poll.  2015 marks the first time since 2011 the Buffs have opened the season at home.

"I would like to thank our coaches and their families for all of their hard work over the last few months," Nesbitt added.  "To the people of Canyon and Amarillo, thank you for the genuine hospitality you extended to all of the families we brought to town on recruiting visits.  You played a huge part in our signing class and for that, we are grateful."
