Fowler resigns as head coach of Tarleton Football

Fowler spent the last six seasons at the helm of Tarleton football and amassed a total record of 30-32, which includes the 2013 Lone Star Conference championship with a 7-3 record. His 30 wins as head coach put him seventh all-time among the school's football leaders.
He came to Tarleton prior to the 2008 season as the defensive coordinator – a position he held for two seasons before becoming the head coach. His 2009 defensive unit helped Tarleton reach the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the second time in school history.
Tarleton will begin the search for its 25th head coach in school history immediately.

STEPHENVILLE (November 16, 2015) — After six seasons and a 30-32 record, the head coach Cary Fowler era in Tarleton State football has reached its end.
Fowler resigned Monday morning following the conclusion of a 3-7 season on Saturday.
“We would like to thank Cary Fowler for his dedicated service to Tarleton State University and the Texan Football program,” said Tarleton State University Athletic Director Lonn Reisman, according to release from the university’s athletic communications department. “We wish him the best of luck in his future.”
The release said the search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Fowler was the 24th coach in Tarleton football history.
Three wins matches the fewest for Tarleton under Fowler. The Texans were 3-8 in his first season but finished .500 or above each of the next four years. They won a share of the Lone Star Conference championship for the third time in school history two years ago, going 7-3 and splitting the title with Eastern New Mexico.
Tarleton was 5-5 and finished third in the inaugural LSC Football Playoff last season, but this year concluded with a narrow 48-47 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in the last place game of the second and final conference playoff. The victory prevented Tarleton from winning less than three games for the first time since 1995.

Mustangs earn No. 1 seed in Super Region Four, receive first-round bye
Midwestern State earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Super Region Four Playoffs and received a first-round bye as announced Sunday afternoon on a selection show via NCAA.com.
The Mustangs, who improved to 10-1 with a 37-33 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, jumped ahead three spots over the final regular season poll.
MSU makes its sixth NCAA postseason appearance and first since 2012. The Mustangs also earned the top seed after rolling to a 10-0 mark in 2011.
The Mustangs face the winner of the No. 4/5 game as Indianapolis travels to face Colorado State-Pueblo next Saturday in Pueblo. The second round game is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
The other side of the bracket features No. 2-seeded Ferris State (Mich.) (10-0) playing host to No. 7-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce (8-2) while No. 6 Grand Valley State (Mich.) (9-2) travels to face Ashland (Ohio) (10-0).
With a win, the Mustangs would host the Super Region Four finals on Dec. 5. The final semifinal round follows on Dec. 12 and the national championship game is set for Dec. 19 in Kansas City.
Lions Tabbed No. 7 seed Will Travel to No. 2 seed/No. 1 ranked Ferris State for NCAA Playoffs
The A&M-Commerce football will make its first appearance in the NCAA Playoffs since the 1995 season after learning its fate as the No. 7 seed in Super Region Four with a looming match up against No. 2 seed Ferris State in the first round Saturday, November 14 at 11 a.m. central time.
A total of 28 teams from the four super regions received NCAA Playoff berths. As the No. 7 seed, the Lions will travel to face the Bulldogs this coming Saturday, Nov. 21, at Top Taggart Field. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (CT).

No. 10 Midwestern claims LSC Playoff championship with 37-33 win over A&M-Commerce
It wasn't the first time No. 10-ranked Midwestern State showed the guts to rally from a late deficit Saturday night in the Lone Star Conference Playoff Championship at A&M-Commerce Memorial Stadium.
It wasn't the second, third or fourth time either.
The opportunistic Mustangs cashed in two turnovers for touchdowns to earn a hard-fought 37-33 win over No. 11 Texas A&M-Commerce.
The win most likely means MSU will be at home for its first NCAA Division II playoff game. The Mustangs learn their postseason fate when the NCAA Division II Football committee releases the playoff Sunday afternoon during a Web stream on NCAA.com at 4 p.m.
Junior linebacker Adam Hill stripped Texas A&M-Commerce running back Richard Cooper on the Lions' 45-yard line with A&M-C holding a 33-24 lead. Senior safety Marqui Christian fought through the scrum at the bottom of the pile to claim the ball and a golden opportunity for the Mustangs.
On the next play, senior receiver Arsenio Phillips hauled in a 45-yard touchdown on a fade route from Hagen Hutchinson to pull the Mustangs to within 33-31.
Just moments later, Harold Wills sniffed out a swing pass on A&M-Commerce's next play from scrimmage for an interception and ambled in from four yards out to give the Mustangs a 37-33 lead.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 10-1 on the season. It's the fourth time MSU has won 10 games in season previously achieving the feat in 1949, 2006 and 2011...Complete Release
Rams End Season with 63-20 Blowout of Eastern New Mexico
The Angelo State football team ended its season with a school record nine touchdowns in a 63-20 blowout of Eastern New Mexico in the third place game of the Lone Star Conference Playoffs held in Blackwater Draw, New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams ended the season at 7-4 while Eastern New Mexico dropped to 6-5. It is just the third time since 1999 that ASU has won at least seven games in a season and the first back-to-back winning seasons since 1998-1999. ASU racked up 630 yards of total offense while limiting the Greyhounds to 394 yards and forcing three turnovers. It is the fourth game that ASU has racked up over 600 yards of total offense. The 63 points is the second most points scored in school history since 1964. ENMU was held to just 76 yards of offense in the first half.
Kyle Washington threw for 406 yards on 22-of-39 throwing. He tossed four touchdowns, rushed for two and caught his first career receiving touchdown on a three yard pass from Jacob Burtch. The senior quarterback added 51 yards on the ground as well. Eddie Smith III led the team in rushing with 73 yards and scored his first career touchdown. Talon Smith led the receivers in catches with six for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Pierson led all receivers with 148 yards and one touchdown. Donovan Thompson set the ASU single season record for receiving yards with 75 yards on the day. He finished the season with 1,136 yards. Buffs Down Texas A&M-Kingsville 51-45 in Season Finale; Earn 11th-Straight Winning Season
For the 11th year in a row, the West Texas A&M football team ended its season with a winning record following a thrilling 51-45 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville in the final game of the Lone Star Conference Football playoff Saturday afternoon at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
In a game that saw just about everything, the Buffs (6-4) and Javelinas (2-9) combined for 96 points, 547 combined rushing yards and 1,064 total yards. TAMUK's Greg Pitre led the way with 226 yards on the ground on 27 carries, while WT senior Geremy Alridge-Mitchell had 32 carries for 213 yards and three scores. Pitre also had four catches for 52 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Alridge-Mitchell had a team-high six catches for 53 yards. WT ended its season with four straight victories.
With the 213 yards, Alridge-Mitchell finishes his career playing in 50 games with 22 starts, while carrying the ball 644 carries for 3,381 yards rushing finishing fifth all-time in rushing just seven yards behind Eugene "Mercury" Morris (1966-68) for fourth and 47 rushing touchdowns. He finished with 77 receptions for 549 yards and three receiving touchdowns. His 308 points ranks him third all-time, while he finished with 51 total touchdowns ranking second all-time behind DeWayne Miles' 55 (1997-00)...Complete Release
Texans score 48 points in second half for win to close out 2015 season
Tarleton closed out the 2015 season with a come-from-behind 48-47 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
The Texans (3-7) scored all 48 points in the second half after trailing 17-0 at halftime.
After coming in at quarterback late in the second quarter, Derek Kiser got the Texans on the board on a 1-yard run on the opening drive of the third quarter to make the score 17-7.
It was the start of seven straight drives the Texans would score on in the second half.
Kiser threw his first of three touchdown passes to Joseph Sadler from three yards out to make it a 20-14 game. Kiser also threw for 202 yards on 16-of-21 passing.
Sadler would later score on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter. The junior running back finished with a career-high 151 yards on the ground, his third 100-yard game of the season.
After Jeremy Louis intercepted an OPSU pass, Kiser connected with Le'Nard Meyers on the next play for a 26-yard touchdown that gave Tarleton its first lead at 28-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
With the score tied at 35-all, Kiser once again went to Meyers, this time for a 14-yard touchdown that put Meyers atop the Tarleton record books.
Meyers' two touchdown receptions in the game gave the senior wide receiver the most touchdown receptions in Tarleton football history with 27. Meyers finished the season with 75 receptions, 1,034 yards and 15 touchdowns...Complete Release
