LSC Scoop Power Poll and Week Six Superlatives

1. ACU (1) - Jumped out to big lead and held on for dear life.
2. WTAM (3) - Not the dominant win expected, but a win is a win.
3. MSU (4) - An even closer shave than last week.
4. TAMK (2) - Cannot spot ACU 21 points and expect to win.
5. ASU (5) - 
6. UCO (7) - Come from 14 points behind to win over ECU.
7. ENMU (6) - Lost to SWO, but have head to head win over TAMC.
8. TAMC (8) - Defense saves the day in close divisional battle.
9. NSU (9) - Gave WT all they could handle, trailed by 5 and had the ball with 7 minutes to play.
10. UIW (10) - On the road, took #10 MSU to overtime.
11. TSU (13) - Gutsy comeback win over ASU.
12. SOSU (11) - All but two possessions ended in TAMC territory (and one at midfield) and they lost?
13. ECU (12) - Could not take advantage of second chance on game tying FG attempt as time expired.
14. SWO (14) - Big win over ENMU could set the stage for rise up the rankings.

Best Overall Team Performance - Abilene Christian

In the nation's top matchup last weekend, the #5 Wildcats jumped to an early lead, which they stretched to 21-0 midway through the third quarter, and 31-10 with 11:28 to play.  Special teams helped the #6 Javelinas get back into the game, but ACU held on for a 31-24 win.  The offense gained 440 yards, 417 passing, but just 23 rushing, while the defense limited TAMK to just 24-57 passing, and 386 total yards.

Best Overall Offensive Performance - West Texas A&M

The Buffaloes threw for 383 yards and rushed for another 111 in Saturday afternoon's win over NSU.  With a slim four point lead late in the third quarter, Taylor Harris and Kelvin Thompson hooked up on 4th and 14, picking up 31 yards down to the NSU 4 yard line.  WT would score on the next play, and hang on for a 34-22 win.  Taylor Hammergren and Lance Ratliff filled in for the injury depleted Buffs, and combined for 17 catches for 287 yards.  Kelvin Thompson rushed for 106 yards and 3 TDs.

Best Overall Defensive Performance - Southwestern Oklahoma

The Bulldogs held the high octane ENMU offense to just 10 points, their lowest output of the season.  DeMarcus Muller had 2 interceptions and Jaron Burgess had one, all in the second half, and SWO limited Wesley Wood to 30-61 passing for 289 yards.

Best Offensive Performance - Mitchell Gale

Gale turned in a huge performance against the #1 ranked defense in the nation Saturday night.  He completed 34 of 51 passes for 417 yards, with 3 TDs and no interceptions.  Gale spread the ball around - 8 Wildcats had 2 or more receptions, and his TDs were to 3 different receivers.

Best Defensive Performance - Shad Baichtal

Baichtal led the Buffalo defense with 14 tackles, 6 for losses, 2 sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered one fumble, and broke up a pass.  Baichtal's first five tackles were either for losses or no gain, setting the tone for the day.

Best Special Teams Performance - Balke Wiest

Wiest was a perfect 4-4 on PATs and 3-3 on FGs, including the game winning 27 yarder with 1:34 to go, lifting the Texans to their first win of the 2010 season.
