West Texas A&M 36, Abilene Christian 0
The largest crowd of the season witnessed a dominating performance by the No. 20 West Texas A&M football team en route to a 36-0 shutout of visiting Abilene Christian on Homecoming Saturday evening at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Buffaloes improved to 6-1 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in the Lone Star Conference. ACU fell to 4-3 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.
The game was a dominating performance on all fronts as a season-high crowd of 13,019 saw WT outgain ACU 475-207 in total offense, including 92-3 in rushing and 383-207 in passing yards. Buffalo junior quarterback Dustin Vaughan threw for 359 yards and three scores on 32 of45, while redshirt freshman Jarrian Rhone, who earned his first collegiate start tonight, had a career-high nine receptions for 106 yards and a score. Junior Nathan Slaughter had eight catches for 83 yards and score and junior Trevor Hammargren with three receptions for 31 yards and a score. (Click here for complete release)
Midwestern State 35, Angelo State 28
No. 13 Midwestern State rallied for a 35-28 win over Angelo State in front of a Homecoming crowd of 7,743 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
The win was the fifth straight for the Mustangs, who improved to 5-1 on the season and to 4-1 in league, but erased a second-half deficit for the second time in as many weeks.
Angelo State punter Joseph Pickett lined the ball off of one his personal protectors with 3:02 remaining in the fourth quarter to all MSU to regain a 35-28 lead on Keidrick Jackson's second rushing touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run. (Click here for complete release)
Texas A&M-Kingsville 20, Incarnate Word 17
The Texas A&M-Kingsville football team used a balanced attack on offense and solid defensive effort to down Incarnate Word 20-17 and end a four-game losing streak Saturday at Javelina Stadium.
Anthony Johnson led the way for the Javelinas who move to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Lone Star Conference with the win. Johnson, a senior, rushed for 128 yards on 16 carries for Kingsville with over half of those yards coming on a 68-yard touchdown run with 3:49 remaining for a 20-10 lead. It was the longest play from scrimmage this season for the Javelinas.
Behind back-up quarterback Taylor Woods, Incarnate Word (2-5, 1-4) drove 73 yards on six plays on the ensuing possession. Woods hit 5-of-6 passes for 63 yards on his only possession of the game. He hit Andrew Mocio from 25-yards out to pull the Cardinals to within three points with two minutes to go. (Click here for complete release)
