Rhone averaged 14.0 points while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor (11-of-21) and 50 percent from 3-point range (5-of-10) in the Tigers’ two games last week. He tallied 10 points on 50 percent shooting in a win over Southeastern Oklahoma State and led ECU with 18 in a two-point loss at Texas A&M-Commerce as he hit 4-of-7 shots from 3-point land in that game and was 7-of-13 from the field overall.
NORTH MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Bobby McAdoo, East Central University, SO, Guard, Kingston, Okla., Kingston HS
McAdoo averaged 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in ECU’s two games last week. He finished with five steals and four rebounds in a home victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State and collected nine boards and a pair of steals in a loss at Texas A&M-Commerce. He also scored six points in each game.

Lionel Foster, West Texas A&M University, JR, Guard, Houston, Texas, Alief Hasting HS
Foster, the LSC’s assist leader, dished a season-high 12 assists along with a season high 17 points to help lead the Buffaloes to a 68-56 win over Incarnate Word on Feb. 22. He hit seven of nine shots from the field, to go with a perfect three-of-three from the line against the Mustangs. He followed with a 15-point, seven assist outing in the Buffs’ 74-54, regular season-finale at Eastern New Mexico. That game saw Foster hit 11-of-11 from the foul stripe.
SOUTH MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Courtney Carr, West Texas A&M University, JR, Forward, Selma, Ala., Selma HS
Carr was a key element in the Buffs outrebounding two opponents by an average of 13 boards and gaining to key wins this past week. Against Incarnate Word, the Selma, Ala., native grabbed seven defensive and nine total rebounds as well as blocked a shot to help the Buffs take a 81-71 win over Incarnate Word. He then grabbed four more rebounds as WT outmuscled Eastern New Mexico by 19 rebounds, in taking a 74-54, regular-season finale win in Portales.

Alex Richardson, University of Central Oklahoma, JR, Center, Edmond, Okla., Santa Fe HS
Richardson led UCO to a pair of season-ending victories as the Bronchos nailed down a runner-up finish in the North Division, averaging 20.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots a game while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 76.4 percent from the line. The junior center had 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots in a 76-71 overtime win over Southwestern Oklahoma, scoring six of UCO’s 10 OT points. She came back three days later with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 74-59 road rout of Cameron.

Ashley Beckley, University of Central Oklahoma, SR, Forward, Turpin, Okla., Turpin HS
Beckley helped lead UCO’s defensive efforts in a pair of wins that locked up a North Division runner-up finish for the Bronchos. The senior forward averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds (4.5 defensive), 3.5 steals and 1.0 blocked shots in wins over Southwestern Oklahoma and Cameron. Beckley had 27 points, four rebounds (two defensive) and a career-high six steals in an OT win over SWOSU, making three of those steals in the extra session. She followed with 15 points, eight rebounds (seven defensive), a blocked shot and a steal in a 74-59 rout of CU.

Nolisha Markham, Midwestern State University, SR, Forward, Tulsa, Okla., East Central HS
Markham closed her collegiate career with a flourish as the 5-10 forward from Tulsa averaged 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds a game while ripping the nets at a 72.6 percent clip (16-of-22) including 5-of-8 marksmanship from the arc. She matched a career high with 27 on 11-of-14 shooting with two 3-pointers to go along with eight rebounds against tournament qualifying Angelo State Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. She then helped the Mustangs to their first win over Abilene Christian at Moody Coliseum since 1992 by netting a team-high 16 points and six rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting with three treys.

Precious Herrin, Eastern New Mexico University, JR, Forward, Shreveport, La., Southwood HS
Herrin’s defensive performance helped limit the Zias’ opposition to just 65 points per game last week. In Eastern’s win over Texas A&M-Kingsville, she grabbed eight defensive boards, a steal and blocked three shots. For the game, she posted a double double, with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Against West Texas A&M, she had a steal, five defensive rebounds and 12 points. Herrin went a perfect six-for-six from the free-throw line over the two games.

ABILENE – ACU director of athletics Jared Mosley announced Monday that
men's head basketball coach Jason Copeland tendered his resignation,
and a national search will being immediately for his replacement.
Copeland's resignation comes at the end of a 9-17 season that saw the
Wildcats finish 1-13 in the Lone Star Conference South Division. The
resignation also sets off ACU's fourth search for a head men's
basketball coach since 1999.
"I want to thank Jason for the work that he has poured into our
program in trying to get things turned around," Mosley said. "We
simply have not been able to make the strides that either one of us
had hoped, but it wasn't for a lack of effort or hard work on his
part. Jason has been a great fit within the ACU environment and
within the Abilene community.
"It's always hard to see good people and leave, but we wish Jason and
his family all the best in the days to come," he said.
Copeland became ACU's head coach on May 4, 2005, and showed steady
improvement in each of his first three seasons. ACU went from eight
wins in 2005-06 to 10 wins in 2006-07 to 20 wins and a spot in the
Lone Star Conference Post-Season Tournament in 2007-08.
However, the last three seasons have seen a reversal of those fortunes
as ACU has sunk to 10 wins in 2008-09, eight wins in 2009-10 and nine
wins in the just-completed 2010-11 season.
Perhaps Copeland's biggest downfall was his inability to win LSC South
Division games. In six seasons under Copeland, the Wildcats were just
16-56 in division games (.216 winning percentage), and three times in
his six seasons the Wildcats won just one division game. In fact, the
Wildcats were just 2-24 in division games over the last two seasons.
The only time the Wildcats finished above sixth in the division in any
of Copeland's seasons was the 2007-08 season when the Wildcats posted
a 6-6 division record to finish tied for third in the division,
earning the program's first berth in the LSC Post-Season Tournament
since 1997-98. The 20-win season was the first for the program since
the 1998-99 team finished 21-8 and reached the NCAA Division II South
Central Region championship game.
The 2007-08 Wildcats knocked off Southwestern Oklahoma State in a
double-overtime thriller in the first round of the conference
tournament for the program's first post-season win since the regional
tournament semifinals in March 1998.
"I feel good about a lot of the things that we were able to do here at
ACU," Copeland said, "but we just had some trouble the last three
seasons keeping this program going in the right direction.
"But Kristy (Copeland's wife) and I have really enjoyed our six years
here at ACU, and we'll leave with great feelings about the people
we've come into contact with and ACU itself," he said. "ACU will
always be a special place for me and my family. I just feel like now
is the right time to look at some other opportunities.”
The program's struggles over the last six seasons mirror those of the
previous six seasons. Since the 1999-2000 season the Wildcats are
just 123-195 overall (.387 winning percentage), including 32-114 (.219
winning percentage) in division play.
ACU, in fact, has won just one division game in a season four times in
the last 12 years and won two or three games a combined four times in
the last 12 seasons.
Mosley said he would like to have the position filled in the next few weeks.
"With the national signing date on the horizon, it's critical that we
move forward quickly in the search for our next head coach," Mosley
said. "It is certainly my goal to try and have the next head coach in
place by April 1 if at all possible."

No. 20 Tarleton State (22-4, 13-1) won the South Division of the Lone Star Conference by playing the best defense of any NCAA Division II team in the country. he Texans flexed that defensive muscle once more in their regular-season finale, holding Angelo State (11-15, 7-7) to 30 points below its season scoring average and eliminating the Rams from attending next week's LSC Championship in a 58-44 victory at Stephens Arena inside the Junnel Center in San Angelo Saturday.
ASU did not hit a second-half field goal until 7:46 remained in the game, and finished with only five field goals in the half and 14 for the contest. The Rams shot just 33.3 percent from the floor. ASU joined the rest of the South in being stymied by a Tarleton defense that allowed 70 or more points in only one divisional game. The Texans held league opponents to less than 60 points 10 times in 14 contests.
"We have a lot of pride in our defense and have built a tradition of being strong on that end of the court," said Tarleton head coach Lonn Reisman, whose club won its ninth straight Saturday. "But I don't know if we've ever strung together a run of defensive performances like this in my entire career."
The Texans stretched their lead from five at the break to 16 by the time eight minutes remained, scoring 15 of the first 19 points over the opening 12 minutes of the second half. ASU's second-half scoring consisted only of four free throws until the Rams finally hit a layup with less than eight minutes left in the game. Corin Henry had 12 points to lead Tarleton. He also had three each in the rebound, assist and steal categories. The senior point guard continued his strong defensive play, breaking the Texans' single-season record by taking a charge for the 39th time.
The Texans also picked up nine points from Nick Mosley and eight each from Carrington Tankson and Devon Hills. Hills also had eight rebounds and Wes Dipprey grabbed seven while scoring seven points.
ASU was led by Richard Thomas with 16 points and Steven Moore with 12. Tarleton, ranked No. 4 in the South Central Region, won a divisional title for the fifth time since joining the LSC and opens LSC Championship action against Southwestern Oklahoma State in the late game Thursday night.
SWOSU defeated the Texans 76-63 in Weatherford, Okla. back on Dec. 7. The Texans are 18-2 since that loss. After Thursday's quarterfinals, men's teams will move on to semifinal action on Saturday before the championship game next Sunday, all at Bruin Fieldhouse in Bartlesville, Okla.

Tarleton's 13-game win streak was snapped by at Angelo State, preventing the TexAnns from becoming just the second team to go undefeated in South Division play. West Texas A&M's 2006-07 team remains the only club to accomplish that feat.
Camille Perkins poured in 25 points, Paige Weishuhn added 22 and the Rambelles shot 63.8 percent in the second half to upset the TexAnns 70-57 at Stephens Arena inside the Junnel Center in San Angelo.
"I think they were motivated and we weren't," said Tarleton head coach Ronnie Hearne. "I think we've been celebrating our division championship too long. Hopefully this wakes us up and we'll be ready when the conference tournament starts on Wednesday. "I give them the credit," added Hearne. "They were motivated, they played hard and they played smart. They outplayed us."
The TexAnns never led after falling behind by seven in the first half. They rallied to trail by just two - 25-23 - at the break, but the Rambelles scored the first six points of the second half to lead by eight. Tarleton pulled within four three times on a pair of Tara Towns triples and a jumper by Brittnie Haley, but Weishuhn or Perkins always had an answer. Tarleton shot just 34.4 percent from the floor including only 25 percent from the arc.

Ryan Turner, Tarleton State University, JR, Closer, North Richland Hills, Texas , Richland HS Turner won two games last week for the Texans out of the bullpen, and made three appearances total out of four contests. Turner picked up just a 1.80 ERA and also earned his second save of the season in Tarleton’s 13-10 victory over 16th-ranked Incarnate Word. He pitched five total innings, gave up just a single run and a single walk while striking out 10 batters. The 6-5 North Richland Hills native has been a constant for the Texans at the end of tight ball games, and leads the team on the season with three wins, two saves, and six appearances.
David Cagle, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, SO, Pitcher, Coalgate, Okla., Coalgate HS Cagle tossed a no-hitter in a 7-0 win in the series finale at Henderson State to help Southeastern to a 2-1 record and a series win over HSU. Cagle’s no-hitter is the 23rd in Southeastern history and the first since the 1999 season. He struck out five and faced 26 hitters, five more than the minimum. He had just one base runner advance past first base in the game.

It's no secret Tarleton State's opponents have a hard time winning in Wisdom Gym. So hard in fact, that this season, for only the second time since Tarleton became a senior college in 1961-62, none of them did.
The Texans (21-4, 12-1) completed their first perfect home record since 2005-06 Wednesday night, dominating Abilene Christian (9-16, 1-12) 82-61. They finished 15-0 at home this season and won their 16th straight in Stephenville dating back to last year. It was also their fifth straight win over ACU.
"It was a great night," said Tarleton head coach Lonn Reisman. "Defending our home court is something we take very seriously and something we work very hard to do, and to come out here and go undefeated in this gym in front of these fans means a great deal to me, our players and our program."
No. 20 Tarleton, which had already secured the 2010-11 Lone Star Conference South Division championship and moved up to No. 4 in Wednesday's latest South Central Regional rankings, was led by senior point guard Corin Henry with an impressive double-double consisting of 25 points and 11 assists. He also had three rebounds and a pair of steals.
"Corin had a great night and he did it on senior night, which made it even better," Reisman said. "He really came out and led us tonight. It was one of his best nights as a Texan."
Five Tarleton players reached double figures as Wes Dipprey had 12 points to go with seven rebounds and Darrion Washington, Donta Smith and Nick Mosley added 10 each. Tarleton, which hit 55 percent (33-60) from the field and forced 22 ACU turnovers, was in control from the start.
Abilene Christian shot 46.7 percent (21-45), the best by a team against the Texans since Midwestern State hit 48.9 percent almost three weeks ago. Tarleton entered the game first in the nation in scoring defense and sixth in field goal percentage defense. The Wildcats were led by Ben Warton with 18 points while Preston Davis added 12.
It's the final season of divisional play in the LSC, and Tarleton has a chance to finish with just one loss for the second time. The Texans, who were 11-1 in the South when they won the title in 2006, would finish 13-1 with a win at Angelo State Saturday.

Four Tarleton State (23-2, 13-0) players reached double figures and two posted double-doubles Wednesday night, as the Lone Star Conference South Division champion TexAnns cruised past Abilene Christian (8-5, 11-14) 65-48.
No. 16 Tarleton, which wrapped up its first LSC South title last week and is No. 2 in the South Central Regional rankings, moved within one game of becoming the first team to go unbeaten in South Division play since West Texas A&M did it in 2006-07. Tarleton can match that feat with a road win at Angelo State in its season finale Saturday.
"This season has been all about making history for the TexAnns," said eighth-year head coach Ronnie Hearne. "We have our highest-ever ranking in the nation, our highest-ever ranking in the region and we've won the South Division for the first time ever. If we can (go undefeated in the South Saturday) that would just be another piece of history."
Junior All-American candidate Shelby Adamson posted the first double-double of her career with 11 points and a career-best 11 rebounds. She also had three assists.
"Shelby is terrific," said Hearne. "Everyone sees the things she does that make the stat sheet, but I don't think everyone appreciates all the intangibles she brings. When we have subs going in, she always makes sure everybody (gets matched up defensively). She's never negative, she's always positive with her teammates. She's outstanding.
"I voted for her for All-American (Wednesday)," Hearne added. "I hope she gets it. She definitely deserves it."
Kiara Wright scored 10 points and grabbed 13 boards for the TexAnns, giving the true freshman four double-doubles for the year. Morgan Stehling was also in double figures with 14 points, while Brittnie Haley just missed adding a third double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Kelsey Benford was also close, scoring eight points to go with 11 rebounds.
Tarleton grabbed a season-high 51 boards compared to just 30 for ACU, resulting in 14 more shot attempts. The TexAnns were 32.3 percent (21-65) from the floor while the Wildcats hit just 25.5 percent (13-51).
"We did a great job on the backboards," said Hearne. "I think part of it was (Benford and Haley) being fired up for senior night. They were pumped."
Tarleton outscored the Wildcats 34-14 in the paint and and 27-10 off the bench. The TexAnns never trailed and stayed in control after scoring 10 of the first 12 points. ACU scored the next four points to pull within four, but that would be as close as the Wildcats got the rest of the night. Tarleton scored nine of the next 10 to lead 19-7, and was ahead by as many as 14 before leading 33-21 at the break.
The Wildcats had a small push to get within nine three minutes into the second half, but Stehling hit a triple and Wright followed it up with three straight points for a 41-26 advantage. Tarleton later picked up four points each from Stehling, Haley and Wright during a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 56-31 with 9:20 left.
"During the second media timeout (just after the 12-minute mark) I told the girls it felt like time for us to go on a run," said Hearne. "Then they went out and really put the game away."
The Wildcats used a late 7-0 run make the game appear closer than it really was.
ACU was led by Mack Langford, a true freshman from Weatherford who knocked down three 3-point field goals and finished with 16 points. ACU had already punched its ticket to next week's LSC Championship in Bartlesville, Okla., but the loss didn't help the Wildcats' chances of coming out on top in the three-team race for second.
They entered the contest tied with Angelo State and WTAMU, but are now alone in fourth after both ASU and WT won Wednesday. The Wildcats host Midwestern Saturday.
Buffaloes Slot Fifth in South Central Region Ranking - WT Sports
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The West Texas A&M men’s basketball team fell to fifth in the NCAA South Central Region ranking, as released by the NCAA today. In addition to WT, Lone Star Conference South teams held positions three through seven.
MIAA member Missouri Southern State tops this week’s rankings, with Fort Hays State second. LSC North member Central Oklahoma stands third with Tarleton State fourth and WT rounding out the top five.
Midwestern State, Incarnate Word, Washburn, Nebraska-Omaha and Texas A&M-Commerce comprise spots six through 10.
Each of the top eight teams in the final regional poll (including one team each from the LSC, MIAA and Heartland conferences) will advance to the NCAA Division II basketball playoffs. Each of the conference’s postseason tournament winners earns an automatic bid into the postseason, while five others gain at-large bids to the postseason regional tournaments, which will be played from March 12-15 at campus sites.
The winners of each regional gain a berth into the Elite Eight, to be held at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., March 23-26.

Lady Buffs Remain at No. & in Latest Regional Rankings - WT Sports
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The West Texas A&M Lady Buff basketball team remained at No. 7 in this week’s South Central regional rankings, according to a release from the NCAA league office on Wednesday.
The Lady Buffs (15-10) dropped just one contest last week to Tarleton State (19-2), which came in at No. 2 in this week’s rankings. WT then defeated Midwestern State this past Saturday and with the strength of schedule the Lady Buffs attain, they managed not to slip any spots in the poll.
Northeastern State (20-2) dropped a game last week, but still managed to hold down the No. 1 spot. Northwest Missouri State of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) came in at No. 3 this week with fellow MIAA member, Washburn (17-4) coming in behind them at No. 4.
Southeastern Oklahoma State (16-6) came in at No. 5 this week with Central Oklahoma (16-7) coming in just ahead of the Lady Buffs at No. 7. Texas Woman’s came in at No. 8 this week to round the top-eight spots. The top eight teams in the regional earn a trip to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
The Lady Buffs are back in action this evening at First United Bank Center in Canyon. WT hosts Incarnate Word for the final home game of the season and will then close-out the regular season at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.

MSU Softball: Mustangs maintain No. 12 ranking in NFCA Divison II Poll - MSU Sports
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State maintained its No. 12 ranking in the latest National Fast-pitch Coaches' Association Top 25 Poll released Wednesday afternoon.
But the poll obviously has the look of a very early season ranking as Indianapolis (Ind.) and Winona State (Minn.) took leaps to Nos. 9 and 11 and past the Mustangs, who extended the best start in school history to 17-1 with a doubleheader sweep at Abilene Christian Tuesday at Wells Field.
Valdosta State (Ga.) maintained the No. 1 position with a 2-0 record with nine first-place votes to outdistance No. 2 Angelo State with four first-place votes at 15-0 and No. 3 North Georgia with three first-place votes at 13-2.
Indianapolis completed a 6-0 start at the Charger Chillout in Decatur, Ala. which included wins over No. 13 Arkansas-Monticello and No. 21 Wayne State (Mich.), while Winona State swept four games against unranked Nebraska-Kearney, Colorado-Colorado Springs, Mesa State (Colo.) and Colorado State-Pueblo at the NSIC/RMAC Crossover last weekend in Rochester, Minn.
The oddities continue as both Wayne State (Mich.) and Wayne State (Neb.) remained in the poll at Nos. 21 and 23 with matching 1-5 records - not a typo.
No. 6 Bloomsburg (Pa.), No. 18 Ashland (Ohio), No. 19 Dowling (N.Y.) and No. 25 Molloy (N.Y.) await the start of its respective seasons.
Eight teams from the South Central Region are receiving mention in the poll including No. 2 Angelo State, No. 7 West Texas A&M, No. 8 Nebraska-Omaha and No. 12 MSU while Emporia State (Kan.), Tarleton State, St. Edward's (Texas) and Central Oklahoma are receiving votes.
Midwestern State enjoys a 10-day respite before playing host to the Holiday Inn at the Falls/MSU Invitational set for March 4-6 at Mustangs Park and Burkburnett High School.
The Mustangs will welcome a six-team field including Abilene Christian, Fort Hays State, St. Edward's, Arkansas Tech and Incarnate Word.

Juan Castillo's path to the NFL started with beheaded shrimp.
At a seafood-packing house on the Gulf of Mexico, Castillo held his first job, donning gloves too big for his 8-year-old hands, thumbing the heads off shrimp and dropping the bodies into a bin. Paid by the pound, he quickly saw the importance of working fast - and hard. There was a technique to it, and soon Castillo could use two hands at once.
He'd line up with his mother and grandmother at 3 or 4 in the morning to secure a prime spot near the front of the conveyor belt that brought the shrimp in.
"I didn't really know anything different," Castillo said.
That raw effort and capacity for work has sustained a football career that began in a small town near the Mexican border and has led to the Eagles defensive coordinator job.

Breaking News - LSC Basketball Championship Announcement
LSC, City of Allen reach 3-year deal for men’s and women’s basketball championships
RICHARDSON, Texas – The Lone Star Conference and the City of Allen announced Wednesday a three-year agreement that allows Allen, Texas, to host the LSC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship tournaments for three consecutive years, beginning in 2012.
“We couldn’t happier with the decision to move our basketball tournaments to Allen, Texas,” LSC commissioner Stan Wagnon said. “There are so many reasons for us to be excited about this new partnership, starting with the beautiful Allen Event Center that will serve as home to LSC Basketball Championship action.”
Allen’s bid was selected from a pool of five other Texas cities seeking to follow Bartlesville, Okla., as the second neutral location to host the event, which dates back to 1975 for men and 1983 for women. For the past three years, the tournament has been played at Bruin Field House after previously being on member institution campuses. The championship is taking place in Bartlesville next week for the fourth and final time.
In its study of potential sites for the tournament, the LSC used a 6-person committee consisting of athletic administrators and basketball coaches to review bids and conduct site visits. Primary areas of consideration when reviewing the bids included playing facilities, lodging accommodations, finances, proximity to LSC campuses, media coverage, fan and participant experience, proximity to LSC alumni base, potential for crowds, and potential for event growth.
“We want this to be a true partnership. Certainly we intend to benefit from playing our basketball tournaments in a first-class setting, but today’s announcement is about more than just basketball games. Lone Star Conference institutions are committed to having shared experiences with our community partners, and we’ll find ways for our student-athletes and coaches to engage the Allen community,” stated Wagnon. “We strive to provide our student-athletes with opportunities for high-level athletic competition, but we’re also preparing them for life ahead so you’re going to see them serving the community and involved with other acts of citizenship. Our schools are appreciative to Allen for sharing their community with us, and our part of the partnership will be to find ways to give back and make a positive impact locally.”
Tournament games will take place at the Allen Event Center, which opened in November 2009. The $52.6 million state-of-the-art facility is city owned with approximately 8,000 plus seats in the basketball configuration with 24 luxury suites. Additionally, there are on-site private meeting rooms, food services and free parking. The arena has a modern scoreboard, two video boards and a 360-degree LED ribbon.
The Allen Event Center lends itself to a tremendous fan and participant experience, with the arena having been built as part of a mixed-use development, amidst hundreds of retail stores and restaurants.
“The Allen Even Center is a state-of-the-art facility, and being situated among all the retail stores and restaurants with the hotel next door really makes it an ideal site for a college basketball tournament,” said Wagnon. “It will provide a special setting for our student-athletes and coaches, but we’re especially excited for our fans and the well-rounded experience that awaits them in Allen.”
The 2012 tournament, to be held February 29-March 4, will be comprised of the top eight men’s and top eight women’s teams, according to the LSC regular-season standings. RICHARDSON, Texas – The Lone Star Conference and the City of Allen announced Wednesday a three-year agreement that allows Allen, Texas, to host the LSC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship tournaments for three consecutive years, beginning in 2012.
“We couldn’t happier with the decision to move our basketball tournaments to Allen, Texas,” LSC commissioner Stan Wagnon said. “There are so many reasons for us to be excited about this new partnership, starting with the beautiful Allen Event Center that will serve as home to LSC Basketball Championship action.”
Allen’s bid was selected from a pool of five other Texas cities seeking to follow Bartlesville, Okla., as the second neutral location to host the event, which dates back to 1975 for men and 1983 for women. For the past three years, the tournament has been played at Bruin Field House after previously being on member institution campuses. The championship is taking place in Bartlesville next week for the fourth and final time.
In its study of potential sites for the tournament, the LSC used a 6-person committee consisting of athletic administrators and basketball coaches to review bids and conduct site visits. Primary areas of consideration when reviewing the bids included playing facilities, lodging accommodations, finances, proximity to LSC campuses, media coverage, fan and participant experience, proximity to LSC alumni base, potential for crowds, and potential for event growth.
“We want this to be a true partnership. Certainly we intend to benefit from playing our basketball tournaments in a first-class setting, but today’s announcement is about more than just basketball games. Lone Star Conference institutions are committed to having shared experiences with our community partners, and we’ll find ways for our student-athletes and coaches to engage the Allen community,” stated Wagnon. “We strive to provide our student-athletes with opportunities for high-level athletic competition, but we’re also preparing them for life ahead so you’re going to see them serving the community and involved with other acts of citizenship. Our schools are appreciative to Allen for sharing their community with us, and our part of the partnership will be to find ways to give back and make a positive impact locally.”
Tournament games will take place at the Allen Event Center, which opened in November 2009. The $52.6 million state-of-the-art facility is city owned with approximately 8,000 plus seats in the basketball configuration with 24 luxury suites. Additionally, there are on-site private meeting rooms, food services and free parking. The arena has a modern scoreboard, two video boards and a 360-degree LED ribbon.
The Allen Event Center lends itself to a tremendous fan and participant experience, with the arena having been built as part of a mixed-use development, amidst hundreds of retail stores and restaurants.
“The Allen Even Center is a state-of-the-art facility, and being situated among all the retail stores and restaurants with the hotel next door really makes it an ideal site for a college basketball tournament,” said Wagnon. “It will provide a special setting for our student-athletes and coaches, but we’re especially excited for our fans and the well-rounded experience that awaits them in Allen.”
The 2012 tournament, to be held February 29-March 4, will be comprised of the top eight men’s and top eight women’s teams, according to the LSC regular-season standings. Behind back-to-back home runs from Garrett Harris and Marcellous Biggins in the second game, the Rams swept Ouachita Baptist 5-4 in a 10-inning affair and 5-2 in the night cap.

Then a dozen games into the season, Corbett — the Lone Star Conference preseason player of the year — was kicked off the team after a theft arrest. ASU responded by beating defending champ Midwestern State, 82-81 in overtime.
Four games later, Mc-Keither dislocated his knee at Eastern New Mexico, The 6-6 senior forward, averaging a double-double 18.1 points and 10.4 rebounds, was lost for the season. Then last Saturday night, the Rams tied an NCAA record with its ninth overtime game of the year.
Yet despite all that and the 11-13 record that goes with it, ASU still has a chance to go to the postseason party in Bartlesville next week.

The Bronchos, who clinched their fourth straight LSC North crown with Monday night’s 71-56 win over Northeastern State, earned 143 points in balloting of head coaches from around the country.
UCO, 23-3 on the year, makes its final regular season home appearance Wednesday when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma at 7 p.m.
Unbeaten West Liberty (W.Va.) remained No. 1 in the rankings, followed by Bellarmine (Ky.), Humboldt State (Calif.), Alabama-Huntsville and Augusta State (Ga.).

LSC BASKETBALL
The Lone Star Conference basketball regular season is down to just one week. Games will be played on Wednesday and Saturday to finalize the championship field.
On the men’s side, three teams - Central Oklahoma, Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State - have punched tickets to Bartlesville, with the remaining five spots up for grabs.
For the women, the eight teams are set with Northeastern State, UCO, Texas Woman’s and Southeastern Oklahoma from the North Division and Tarleton, West Texas A&M, Angelo State and Abilene Christian from the South. Games this week will determine the seeding with only Tarleton positioned as the top seed in the South.
UCO has claimed the North men’s title for the fourth straight year, with only one loss at 9-1. Tarleton captured the men’s South crown to earn its fifth divisional title and first since 2006 with an 11-1 mark.
On the women’s side, Tarleton remains unbeaten in the South at 12-0 and grabbed the South title for the first time in school history.
The LSC men have a 207-164 overall record so far this season, including a 105-70 mark in the South Division and 92-84 in the North. In league crossover action, the South Division holds a 36-20 record over its North opponents including a flawless 7-0 record by West Texas A&M. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 25-12 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 6-2 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
The LSC women are 196-195 overall, with an 87-106 mark in the South and 109-89 in the North this season. In league crossover play the North has the advantage, 38-26, including a perfect 8-0 mark by Northeastern State over the South teams. The women’s teams are currently 18-22 combined versus Heartland Conference squads and 4-2 against the MIAA in the NCAA South Central Region.
CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS ON SALE
All-session tickets are now available for the upcoming Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship at a discounted rate. All tickets purchased by the February 23 deadline will come with a $20 savings off the regular price as well as a free LSC Basketball Championship souvenir.
This year’s LSC Basketball Championship will be played March 2-6 in Bartlesville, Okla., for the fourth and final time. The top eight men’s and top eight women’s teams from the conference will combine to play 14 games over a five-day span, culminating with the women’s championship game on Saturday night, March 5, and the men’s championship contest on Sunday afternoon, March 6.
All-session tickets are $35 if purchased in advance. After Wednesday’s deadline for advance purchases, the price will be $55 for all-session tickets or $12 per session. Student prices will be $27 for all-session tickets or $7 per session. The tournament will be played in eight separate sessions, with two sessions per day on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, along with single sessions on both Friday and Sunday.

He has taken over the conference lead in three-point accuracy making better than 47% of his shots.

Henry led the Tarleton Texans to three wins and a LSC South Division title this week after leading the squad in scoring in all three games. He scored 13 points against West Texas A&M in Stephenville before tallying 14 points at Texas A&M-Kingsville and 10 points at Midwestern State. Henry scored the last five points of the game on Monday to give the Texans the victory. He tied the game at 47 with 1:28 left on the clock with a three from the top of the key before hitting a jumpshot from the elbow to put Tarleton ahead 49-47 with 19 seconds remaining. The win gave the Texans the LSC South title and ensured Tarleton the top-seed in the South for the LSC Championship Tournament. Henry shot .481 from the field on the week and also pulled down 14 rebounds – 11 of them on the defensive end of the floor. He led the team in steals with eight and assists with 14 – moving up to No. 12 on the Tarleton all-time assists list. He led the team with eight rebounds at TAMUK.

Smith led the Texans with a 5.3 rebounds per game average this week and two blocks. Smith led Tarleton with seven rebounds in the game at MSU on Monday. He recorded 16 total rebounds this week - with 10 on the defensive end. Tarleton’s defense held opponents to a .341 shooting percentage form the floor, including a .208-mark from the three-point arc. Tarleton held opponents to a 42.0 points per game average.

Hanna helped the team to 2-1 record during the week including a win over #6 Northeastern State. She cleared 17 defensive rebounds and recorded five steals in three games. She was the leader on defense against NSU and helped TWU hold the RiverHawks to 21 points below their season average (67.7) and 30 percent shooting. With the post players in foul trouble, Hanna was forced to guard NSU’s Jasmine Webb giving up three inches in height. With her help the Pioneers held Webb to 1-for-9 shooting. Hanna also drew two key charges on defense and helped the Pioneers to their third win over a top-25 team this season. She finished the week with 39 points including a game-high 16 points and 8 rebounds against Northeastern State. The Pioneers also held two of the three opponents to just 46 points.

Adamson scored 19 points in the first two games and 17 in the third, as the TexAnns clinched the Lone Star Conference South title for the first time in school history last week. Adamson has led Tarleton in scoring all season and last week was no different. The junior guard scored 19 points, grabbed six boards, dished out five assists, and recorded five steals in the win over West Texas A&M. She followed that up with 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while going 7-of-7 from the floor in the win over A&M-Kingsville. To finish off the week, Adamson scored 17 points and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line to seal a comeback victory at Midwestern State.

Youngblood finished last week with a team-best seven steals and helped hold the Belles’ opponents to just 43.0 points. The sophomore forward helped Angelo State hold Eastern New Mexico to just 37 points, the first time the Zias were limited to less than 40 points in a game since 2000. Youngblood was excellent defensively for the Belles in their 53-49 win at Incarnate Word as she recorded a career-high six steals and 13 points in the game. The Thorndale, Texas, native finished the week with 21 points, 10.5 points per game, eight rebounds, 4.0 rebounds per game, seven steals, three assists and one block.

The No. 7 West Texas A&M softball team swept New Mexico Highlands on Tuesday at Las Vegas, N.M.
The Lady Buffs (9-1) beat the Cowgirls 3-0 and 11-2.
In the opener, Kasey Hennderson’s two-run triple in the third inning lifted the Lady Buffs to victory. Marci Womack (5-0) went the distance, struck out five and allowed three hits.
In the second game, the Lady Buffs belted four doubles, including a three-run double by pinch-hitter Brooke Webster in a five-run fifth inning.

Softball season is in full swing for Lone Star Conference teams. Angelo State is still undefeated at 15-0 marking the second-best start in school history, while Midwestern State continues its best start in program history at 15-1.
LSC softball teams are 102-60 overall, with a 54-35 record in the South and 48-25 in the North this season. The squads are currently 32-19 combined versus Heartland Conference squads and 18-11 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, which are the other two conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

The senior from Pearland struck out 14 and walked just two batters to no-hit Eastern New Mexico 10-0 on Friday, then allowed a one-hit single in the seventh inning in a one-hit win over Drury (Mo.) Sunday afternoon. For the week, Gutierrez limited the opposition to a .027 batting average while allowing one hit in 12 innings in the circle. She fanned 28 and walked two.

Their chance for making the postseason is through, and they can't even really play the spoiler either after Monday night's heartbreaking loss to Tarleton State.

UCO stays 7th in basketball poll - UCO Sports
Lone Star Conference North Division champion Central Oklahoma remained No. 7 in the weekly NABC/Division II Coaches’ Poll that was released Tuesday.
The Bronchos, who clinched their fourth straight LSC North crown with Monday night’s 71-56 win over Northeastern State, earned 143 points in balloting of head coaches from around the country.
UCO, 23-3 on the year, makes its final regular season home appearance Wednesday when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma at 7 p.m.
Unbeaten West Liberty (W.Va.) remained No. 1 in the rankings, followed by Bellarmine (Ky.), Humboldt State (Calif.), Alabama-Huntsville and Augusta State (Ga.).
LSC South Division champion Tarleton State is the only other conference team in the poll, coming in 20th.

LSC BASKETBALL
The Lone Star Conference basketball regular season is down to just one week. Games will be played on Wednesday and Saturday to finalize the championship field.
On the men’s side, three teams - Central Oklahoma, Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State - have punched tickets to Bartlesville, with the remaining five spots up for grabs.
For the women, the eight teams are set with Northeastern State, UCO, Texas Woman’s and Southeastern Oklahoma from the North Division and Tarleton, West Texas A&M, Angelo State and Abilene Christian from the South. Games this week will determine the seeding with only Tarleton positioned as the top seed in the South.
UCO has claimed the North men’s title for the fourth straight year, with only one loss at 9-1. Tarleton captured the men’s South crown to earn its fifth divisional title and first since 2006 with an 11-1 mark.
On the women’s side, Tarleton remains unbeaten in the South at 12-0 and grabbed the South title for the first time in school history.
The LSC men have a 207-164 overall record so far this season, including a 105-70 mark in the South Division and 92-84 in the North. In league crossover action, the South Division holds a 36-20 record over its North opponents including a flawless 7-0 record by West Texas A&M. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 25-12 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 6-2 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
The LSC women are 196-195 overall, with an 87-106 mark in the South and 109-89 in the North this season. In league crossover play the North has the advantage, 38-26, including a perfect 8-0 mark by Northeastern State over the South teams. The women’s teams are currently 18-22 combined versus Heartland Conference squads and 4-2 against the MIAA in the NCAA South Central Region.
CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS ON SALE
All-session tickets are now available for the upcoming Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship at a discounted rate. All tickets purchased by the February 23 deadline will come with a $20 savings off the regular price as well as a free LSC Basketball Championship souvenir.
This year’s LSC Basketball Championship will be played March 2-6 in Bartlesville, Okla., for the fourth and final time. The top eight men’s and top eight women’s teams from the conference will combine to play 14 games over a five-day span, culminating with the women’s championship game on Saturday night, March 5, and the men’s championship contest on Sunday afternoon, March 6.
All-session tickets are $35 if purchased in advance. After Wednesday’s deadline for advance purchases, the price will be $55 for all-session tickets or $12 per session. Student prices will be $27 for all-session tickets or $7 per session. The tournament will be played in eight separate sessions, with two sessions per day on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, along with single sessions on both Friday and Sunday.
Fans can purchase tickets by contacting their local athletic department through Wednesday, Feb. 23. Also, tickets are available online at the LSC website (www.lonestarconference.org).

King averaged 18.5 points and shot better than 58% from three-point range in leading Southwestern Oklahoma to a 2-0 week that included victories over Texas A&M-Commerce and Southeastern Oklahoma. King scored a season-high 27 points in the 80-72 win against A&M-C, which included seven three-pointers. He has taken over the conference lead in three-point accuracy making better than 47% of his shots.

Henry led the Tarleton Texans to three wins and a LSC South Division title this week after leading the squad in scoring in all three games. He scored 13 points against West Texas A&M in Stephenville before tallying 14 points at Texas A&M-Kingsville and 10 points at Midwestern State. Henry scored the last five points of the game on Monday to give the Texans the victory. He tied the game at 47 with 1:28 left on the clock with a three from the top of the key before hitting a jumpshot from the elbow to put Tarleton ahead 49-47 with 19 seconds remaining. The win gave the Texans the LSC South title and ensured Tarleton the top-seed in the South for the LSC Championship Tournament. Henry shot .481 from the field on the week and also pulled down 14 rebounds – 11 of them on the defensive end of the floor. He led the team in steals with eight and assists with 14 – moving up to No. 12 on the Tarleton all-time assists list. He led the team with eight rebounds at TAMUK.

Smith led the Texans with a 5.3 rebounds per game average this week and two blocks. He helped Tarleton to the LSC South Division title as the Texans claimed three wins (West Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Midwestern State). Smith led Tarleton with seven rebounds in the game at MSU on Monday. He recorded 16 total rebounds this week - with 10 on the defensive end. Tarleton’s defense held opponents to a .341 shooting percentage form the floor, including a .208-mark from the three-point arc. Tarleton held opponents to a 42.0 points per game average.

Weaver averaged a team best 16.7 points to lead the Pioneers to a 2-1 record during the week including a win over #6 Northeastern State. She recorded her fifth double-double of the season at East Central with 16 points and 10 rebounds. On the season Weaver leads the team in scoring with 14.4 ppg and second rebounding with 7.0 rpg.

Hanna helped the team to 2-1 record during the week including a win over #6 Northeastern State. She cleared 17 defensive rebounds and recorded five steals in three games. She was the leader on defense against NSU and helped TWU hold the RiverHawks to 21 points below their season average (67.7) and 30 percent shooting. With the post players in foul trouble, Hanna was forced to guard NSU’s Jasmine Webb giving up three inches in height. With her help the Pioneers held Webb to 1-for-9 shooting. Hanna also drew two key charges on defense and helped the Pioneers to their third win over a top-25 team this season. She finished the week with 39 points including a game-high 16 points and 8 rebounds against Northeastern State. The Pioneers also held two of the three opponents to just 46 points.

Adamson scored 19 points in the first two games and 17 in the third, as the TexAnns clinched the Lone Star Conference South title for the first time in school history last week. Adamson has led Tarleton in scoring all season and last week was no different. The junior guard scored 19 points, grabbed six boards, dished out five assists, and recorded five steals in the win over West Texas A&M. She followed that up with 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while going 7-of-7 from the floor in the win over A&M-Kingsville. To finish off the week, Adamson scored 17 points and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line to seal a comeback victory at Midwestern State.

Youngblood finished last week with a team-best seven steals and helped hold the Belles’ opponents to just 43.0 points. The sophomore forward helped Angelo State hold Eastern New Mexico to just 37 points, the first time the Zias were limited to less than 40 points in a game since 2000. Youngblood was excellent defensively for the Belles in their 53-49 win at Incarnate Word as she recorded a career-high six steals and 13 points in the game. The Thorndale, Texas, native finished the week with 21 points, 10.5 points per game, eight rebounds, 4.0 rebounds per game, seven steals, three assists and one block.

The No. 7 West Texas A&M softball team swept New Mexico Highlands on Tuesday at Las Vegas, N.M.
The Lady Buffs (9-1) beat the Cowgirls 3-0 and 11-2.
In the opener, Kasey Hennderson’s two-run triple in the third inning lifted the Lady Buffs to victory. Marci Womack (5-0) went the distance, struck out five and allowed three hits.

Softball season is in full swing for Lone Star Conference teams. Angelo State is still undefeated at 15-0 marking the second-best start in school history, while Midwestern State continues its best start in program history at 15-1.
LSC softball teams are 102-60 overall, with a 54-35 record in the South and 48-25 in the North this season. The squads are currently 32-19 combined versus Heartland Conference squads and 18-11 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, which are the other two conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

For the week, she had a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage for the week. She was 4-for-8 from the plate in the three game series with PSU.

Gutierrez weaved the third no-hitter in program history then followed by taking a no-no into the seventh inning as Midwestern State roll to a 4-0 showing at the MSU Invitational last weekend. The senior from Pearland struck out 14 and walked just two batters to no-hit Eastern New Mexico 10-0 on Friday, then allowed a one-hit single in the seventh inning in a one-hit win over Drury (Mo.) Sunday afternoon. For the week, Gutierrez limited the opposition to a .027 batting average while allowing one hit in 12 innings in the circle. She fanned 28 and walked two.

Tafiti hit .526 (10-for-19) at the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational and helped lead the third-ranked Angelo State softball team to a 6-0 week. Tafiti drove in 11 RBIs, while blasting two home runs and scoring five times during the seven-day stretch. The Kalaheo, Hawaii native had a team-high 1.000 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage

McKay went 3-0 on the week and improved to 8-0 on the season. The freshman threw three complete games at the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational, allowing just two earned runs in 21.0 innings of work for a 0.67 ERA. The Madhill, Okla., native held her opponents to a .197 batting average during the tournament.

Henry fired in a 3 to tie the game with 1:27 to play and then drilled a 17-footer to win it with just 19 seconds remaining. The Mustangs never got a shot off after Henry hit the 3.

The only thing magic about Tarleton State's (20-4, 11-1) trip to D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls Monday night was the Texans winning their seventh straight to clinch the outright championship in the South Division of the Lone Star Conference.
In the process, they happened to also break Midwestern's 41-game home win streak, handing the Mustangs their first loss at Ligon Coliseum since the 2008-09 season opener against Dallas Baptist.
Senior point guard Corin Henry hit a 3-point basket to tie the game with 1:28 left, stole the ball from Midwestern standout Chris Hagan with 46 seconds remaining then hit the game-winning jumper with 19 ticks on the clock.
Midwestern had one final chance, but after its final possession stalled and the Mustangs called a timeout, their inbound pass with three seconds left was stolen by Carrington Tankson.
Henry missed much of the contest with foul trouble and had only five points when he returned to the court with four fouls at the 5:36 mark. He doubled his point total in the final 90 seconds, finishing with a
team-high 10 to go with six assists and three steals in just 24 minutes.
Tankson also starred in the final minutes after struggling the majority of the night. The junior guard had just four points until hitting a pair of free throws to pull the Texans within two at 43-41 with 4:41 left. He then
buried a 3-ball on the Texans' next possession, putting them up one with 4:02 to go.
Midwestern scored the next four points on a jumper by Michael Loyd and a layup by David Terrell, but Henry finished the game with his personal 5-0 run for Tarleton.
Tankson finished with nine points and four steals while forwards Nick Mosley and Wes Dipprey each scored eight.
Midwestern was led by Michael Loyd with 20 points, but the real story was Chris Hagan being held to six. In two games against Tarleton this season, Hagan averages just 8.5 points. He averages 22.7 against all other
opponents.
The Texans, who have won 12 of their last 13 and were ranked No. 25 in last week's Division II coaches poll, held MSU to 39.1 percent shooting from the floor. The Mustangs entered the contest shooting 50 percent for the season.
Tarleton leads the nation in scoring defense, surrendering just 52.0 points per game. That number has been steadily falling over the last three contests when they held West Texas A&M to 42 points, Texas A&M-Kingsville to just 37 and Midwestern to 47. It was the Mustangs' lowest scoring output in 11 years.
The divisional title is Tarleton's fifth since joining the LSC in 1994-95. The Texans won three straight divisional crown from 2002-04 before picking up their fourth in 2006.

LSC Men's Basketball Tourney Outlook
With two games remaining, the men's divisional champions have been decided. Central Oklahoma and Tarleton have taken the 2011 titles and will be the top seeds when the LSC tournament bracket is drawn up. After that, it gets a little murky.
In the North, Texas A&M Commerce has clinched a spot in the tourney, but could be anywhere from the #2 to #4 team from the North. The #2 slot is likely, as they close out the regular season with a home contest against East Central. Cameron and Southwestern State are tied for the #3 slot with 6-4 divisional records. They each close with Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma. Cameron faces NSU on the road and hosts UCO, while SWO travels to UCO and hosts NSU in the season finale. NSU lurks just behind them in the #5 slot with a 4-6 divisional record and one more loss (or one more win by CU and SWO) will end their season.
In the South, its even tighter. After Tarleton, there are 4 teams tied for the 2nd slot with 7-5 records. Midwestern State hosts Angelo State and travels to ACU, West Texas A&M hosts Incarnate Word and travels to Eastern New Mexico, ENMU will travel to TAMK before hosting WTAM, and Angelo State has the toughest slate with a trip to Midwestern State followed by a home game against Tarleton State. ACU TO PLAY WESTERN OREGON IN 2011 - From the ACU Sports Department
ACU director of athletics Jared Mosley announced Monday that the Wildcats have added a fifth home game to the 2011 football schedule as ACU and the Wolves of Western Oregon University will meet for the first time.
The game is set for Saturday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium. The addition of the Western Oregon game gives the Wildcats five true home games for the upcoming season: Angelo State on Sept. 24, Western Oregon on Oct. 1, West Texas A&M on Oct. 15, Texas A&M-Commerce no Oct. 29, and Incarnate Word on Nov. 12. The contract with Western Oregon is only a one-year deal.
ACU still has one date left to fill, and that's the Sept. 3 date. If Mosley can't fill that date, the Wildcat will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 10, with a Lone Star Conference game at Tarleton State.
Western Oregon finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the Great Northwest Athletics Conference. The Wolves – who will be a Super Region Four opponent for the Wildcats – lost to FCS opponent Sacramento State as well as GNAC opponents Humboldt State and Central Washington (twice).
