Recruit Profiles
STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton head football coach Cary Fowler has
announced the 2013 national signing day class, which includes 31 players that
have signed to play for the Texans beginning in the fall.
The Texans
added 14 offensive players and 14 defensive players, to go along with three more
athletes that can play both sides of the ball. Of the 31 signees, eight players
had ties to the Cross-Timbers area.
“It is an exciting day in Tarleton
football, I guess it is an exciting day across the country,” Fowler said. “I am
very excited about this signing class, just as we have been excited about the
last three years now. We have had to take a lot of players over the past few
years, but this year we honed in on certain players and the strength of their
positions. We competed against a lot of [NCAA] Division I schools and were able
to sign some kids that had visits to Division I campuses.”
The Texans
are coming off a 6-4 season overall, where they went 5-3 and finished tied for
third-place in the Lone Star Conference. The Texans reeled off a three-game
winning streak to end the season; which included a pair of road wins over
Incarnate Word and North Alabama, while downing Angelo State at home.
Of
the eight area players signed, Tarleton managed to sign five players from
Stephenville High School.
“We got to see a lot of the Stephenville
players a lot, as they played here in our stadium this season,” Fowler said.
“The players from Stephenville know how to win. They are state champions and
they will bring great leadership to this team. All of these kids had options and
we feel very fortunate to get the players that we did.”
