LSC Baseball Weekly Release: Four pick up weekly awards
All the Lone Star Conference baseball teams have seen action in 2012 after two weeks of the season.  Non-conference games continue this week.

    LSC baseball teams are 32-13 overall this season.  In the NCAA South Central Region, the LSC is currently 17-6 overall including 7-0 combined versus Heartland Conference teams, 10-6 opposed to the Great American Conference and 0-0 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
DIAMOND PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTERS
Luis Quiñones, Eastern New Mexico University, JR, Left Field, Las Cruces, N.M., Mayfield HS

Quiñones batted safely in all three games, last weekend and finished with a .417 batting average. Dating back to last season, he is on a six-game hit streak. Quiñones performance lifted the Hounds to their first-ever wins over Texas-Permian Basin and Incarnate Word, with a .500 batting average and four runs batted in over those two games. In the season-opening win against UTPB, he batted 2-for-4, with a run scored, three RBIs and a sacrifice bunt. Against the Cardinals, Quiñones again hit two-for-four with a RBI and a stolen base. He closed out the week with a base hit, RBI and a walk against New Mexico Highlands.

Cameron Dullnig, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, SR, 2B, San Antonio, Texas, Clark HS
Dullnig led the Javelinas to a 5-1 week. He drove in the first two runs of the season in a 5-3 win over St. Edward’s and hit safely in each game. He went 2-for-2 with two runs, a walk and a stolen base in a 6-1 win over UH-Victoria. He came back the next day and helped spark a ninth-inning rally with a sacrifice fly. He also picked up a win and a save on the mound tossing 3.0 shutout innings during the week. He reached base 12 times during the week.

PITCHERS
Ryan Boydstun, Eastern New Mexico University, FR, RHP, La Quinta, Calif., La Quinta HS

Boydstun turned made a stellar debut, holding preseason Lone Star Conference favorite, Incarnate Word to one run on three hits, over six innings. He fanned nine batters and limited the Cardinals to a .158 batting average, 88 points under their normal batting average. Boydstun’s performance lifted the Greyhounds to their first-ever win over UIW.

Michael Weatherly, Angelo State University, JR, RHP, Mesquite, Texas, Mesquite HS
Weatherly struck out the side in the ninth inning against No. 4 St. Mary’s last Tuesday after striking out one to finish off the eighth inning for his first win of the season. Weatherly went on to pitch another 2.1 innings during the week and finished with eight strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. The junior did not allow a hit and has a .000 ERA.  He also pitched 2.1 shutout innings in relief against Lindenwood with five strikeouts.


LSC Softball Weekly Release: CU's Foutch and WT's Womack honored

Softball season rolls on with all 10 Lone Star Conference teams in action. The games continue with a full schedule of non-conference contests this week.
    LSC softball teams are 45-22 overall this season.  In the NCAA South Central Region, the LSC is currently 36-18 overall including 20-8 combined versus Heartland Conference teams, 12-9 opposed to the Great American Conference and 4-1 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Sonia Foutch, Cameron University, Jr., Catcher, Denton, Texas, Western Oklahoma State College

During the week, the Cameron softball team went 4-1 in the Dessert Stinger tournament in Las Vegas. The clutch hitting of Cameron newcomer Sonia Foutch helped propel the squad to success. Out of 11 at bats, the CU junior had an impressive six runs, seven hits and eight RBIs. Additionally, Foutch hit a double and two home runs with one hit in all five games and multi-hit efforts twice.

PITCHER
Marci Womack, West Texas A&M University, SR, Pitcher, Sulphur Springs, Texas, Sulphur Springs HS

Womack dominated in her first two games of the season to help the #5 Lady Buffs to a 3-0 record during the Lady Buff Invitational in Canyon with wins against Oklahoma Panhandle State, UT-Permian Basin and St. Edward’s. Womack went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, striking out 18 batters in just 10.0 innings of work with two complete games with just one walk. She threw her first career no-hitter in an 8-0 win over St. Edward’s on Friday night with nine strikeouts.
