Report: Rice hires defensive line coach - Houston Chronicle

The Owls plan to hire Angelo State defensive line coach Michael Slater to the same position.  Slater spent three seasons (2008-10) as a graduate assistant with Rice, where he worked with the defensive line and was responsible for scouting reports and breaking down defensive film. Before that, Slater spent 12 years coaching high school at Alief Hastings (1996-2001) and Alief Taylor (2001-08).

LSC Baseball Weekly Release: Teams continue non-conference play - LSC Office

Lone Star Conference baseball teams continue non-conference action this week.  The weather postponed or cancelled a few games scheduled for last week.
  
LSC baseball teams are 44-17 overall this season.  In the NCAA South Central Region, the LSC is currently 23-9 overall including 7-1 combined versus Heartland Conference teams, 16-8 opposed to the Great American Conference and 0-0 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
DIAMOND PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTERS
Joe Huwer, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, First Base, Boise, Idaho, Timberline HS/Wenatchee Valley

Huwer turned in a stellar week, to lead the Greyhounds to three wins in four games. He led Eastern with 11 hits and one homer; and tied for the lead with seven runs batted in and a triple. In ENMU’s 14-7 victory over New Mexico Highlands, he doubled, tripled and drove in a run. In the loss to the Cowboys, he added two hits, including a go-ahead, three-run homer. Huwer had multiple hits in all four games and batted seven-for-11 against University of the Southwest.

Jordan Easom, West Texas A&M University, SR, INF, Keller, Texas, Keller HS
Easom guided the Buffs to a 4-1 record over the weekend, collecting nine hits in 16 at bats for a .562 batting average. The Keller native tallied five doubles and a solo home run, while driving in a team-high nine runs-batted-in. Easom went 7-for-11 with runners on base and was 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Playing shortstop for the Buffs, Easom recorded 6 putouts in the field and tallied 17 assists as well.

PITCHERS
Jake Feckley, Angelo State University, SO, RHP, Wylie, Texas, Wylie HS

Feckley owned the Southeastern Oklahoma Savage Storm in his start against the former LSC foe last Friday with seven innings of shutout baseball. Feckley struck out nine, held SOSU to a .087 batting average and carried a perfect game for 5.2 innings in the 5-0 series-opening win. The two-hit complete game was the first of the season for the Rams. The sophomore transfer from Texas A&M has now struck out 16 batters in three appearances and 13.2 innings of work this season. He possesses a 1.98 ERA and is limiting opponents to a .157 average at the plate.

Justin Kuks, West Texas A&M University, SR, Pitcher, Tracy, Calif., West HS
Kuks pitched 5.0 solid innings for the Buffs in a 15-1 decision over Colorado School of Mines on Sunday. The senior opened the game striking out seven of the first nine batters he faces and finished the game with nine strikeouts and just one walk. He allowed just the one run while scattering six hits to collect his second win of the season.
