MEN’S
Hans Hach, Abilene Christian University, SO, Culiacan, Mexico, Niagara Academy of Tennis
Hach went 2-0 this weekend as a singles player over opponents from #28 Incarnate Word and #15 Texas A&M. Hach, who is in the midst of a five-match winning streak, is 10-2 overall this season and is 8-2 over his last 10 matches. Competing at the No. 1 line, Hach defeated UIW’s Carlos Olvera, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, and then on the road in College Station, knocked off the Aggies’ No. 1, rallying from a set down to beat Colin Hoover, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10. In doubles, Hach lost his first match of the season after falling to Texas A&M’s team of Hoover and John Lewis, 8-5. The loss snapped a season opening 10-match winning streak. Earlier in the weekend Hach and Guilherme Gesser beat UIW’s Olvera and Aiden DeLeon, 8-4. Hach is 10-1 as a doubles player and 4-1 with Gesser as his teammate.
WOMEN’S
Julia Mongin, Abilene Christian University, JR, Jaurnay, France, Lycee Pilote Innovant International School
In her first weekend back returning from illness, DII’s third-ranked singles player Julia Mongin posted a combined 6-0 record as a singles and doubles player in ACU’s victories over Incarnate Word (9-0), No. 20 Tarleton State (8-1), and No. 10 Rollins (9-0). Mongin began her weekend at the No. 2 line, where she defeated UIW’s Maggae Doney, 6-4, 6-1. She then was moved up to the No. 1 position, where she beat Tarleton’s Alicia Perez, 6-1, 6-4, and Rollins’ 22nd-ranked singles player Lisa Loft, 6-0, 6-1. Mongin’s victories raised her season total to 6-1. In doubles, Mongin and her twin sister, Laura, competed at the No. 2 spot and beat UIW’s Andi Bothe/Casey Bulls, 8-3, and later Rollins’ tandem of Loft/Kayli Ragsdale, 9-8 (4). In between she teamed up with Hannah Kelley for the first time this season and together they beat Tarleton’s Melanie Barnes and Karla Martinez-Hamd (9-7). Mongin is now 7-1 as a doubles player this season, including 3-0 with her sister.
