NORMAN — Conference commissioners and presidents from NCAA Division II schools were safely tucked away in high-level meetings over the past week or so apparently, still hidden away. It has to be, because the key players aren’t reachable.
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association commissioner Jim Johnson. Leave a voice message. Lone Star Conference commissioner Stan Wagnon, not available. Johnson’s mentions he’ll be back in the office July 8.
Yes, it could be the holiday weekend. But since Northeastern State announced last week it was submitting a letter of inquiry to the MIAA about conference membership, little else has been spoken — a stark contrast to the blowings and goings earlier in the month when the Big 12 appeared on the verge of an implosion.
MSU hires tennis coach

Scott Linn was ripe for the right opportunity to return to the head coaching ranks and will return to the helm beginning this fall at Midwestern State.
“Scott brings to us a great ability to relate to student-athletes, a proven coaching ability and has constructed solid relationships in each tennis community he has lived,” MSU Athletic Director Charlie Carr said. “He and his family will make an important connection to our players, our campus and our community. Once again, we are blessed to add another find coach to the best staff in the country.”
Linn, who has spent the last three seasons as the top assistant of the men’s tennis program at Indiana University, believes he is the right fit for MSU.
Texas A&M University-Commerce head women’s golf coach Louie Bledsoe announced the signing of five new golfers for the upcoming season.
Sara Diaz, a four-year letterwinner 2010 district champion, at MacArthur High School in San Antonio advanced to the state tournament. San Antonio MacArthur went on to place eighth overall as the tournament was shortened to 27 holes due to weather. Diaz and MacArthur finished runner up at the regional tournament and at the districts in 2009. She earned multiple academic honors including the Principal’s Award, President’s Education Award as a senior and a summa cum laude graduate. In addition, Diaz was featured in a commercial promoting The First Tee program along with legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus.
Haley Green, a four-year member of the golf team at four-time district and two-time regional champion A&M Consolidated in College Station. She earned all-district honors as a sophomore and as a senior and was named the team’s Most Improved as a freshman. With a regional title as a senior, the team advanced to the state tournament where they finished fourth.
Holly Jenkins was a four-year member of the golf team at Alexandria High School in Alexandria, Louisiana. Recently, as a senior and as a member of the boys’ team, they finished second in the state. She was a three-time player of the year recipient and the school’s first female golfer to win regionals and earn all-state recognition. Jenkins received the U.S. Army National Scholar Athlete Award and an American Legion Award.
Kaley Jackson has been a part of successful golf programs at Guyer High School and Magnolia High School. As a junior at Magnolia, she was the individual district champion and they reached the state tournament, where they finished second. Jackson’s father Jim Bob was the longtime golf coach at North Texas and Texas State.
Chelsea McCoy was a three-year member of the golf team at Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Texas. She earned all-district recognition as a junior and as a senior. McCoy has won individual title at Delaware Springs and at Twin Creeks. Georgetown was the district champion and regional qualifier during her sophomore and senior seasons.
Earlier this year, the Lions added Katelin Walker and Chantry McMahan. McMahan from nearby Kaufman High School wrapped up her high school winning the individual state 3A title. Walker from Plano West High School earned second team all-district honors and helped her team win six tournament titles this year..
