Football - Preseason Accolades

ACU trio named all-America

Addition to story: Matt Adams (kicker) was named to the second team as well.

From ACU Sports Information

ABILENE -- The ACU offensive trio of Bernard Scott, Billy Malone and Sam Collins were each named pre-season all-America Tuesday by the Web site Consensus Draft Services.

Scott - who last week was named a first team pre-season all-America and the NCAA Division II pre-season MVP by Lindy's magazine – was a first team pre-season all-America selection at running back by Consensus Draft Services. Malone, meanwhile, was a second team selection at quarterback, while Collins was an honorable mention pick at center.

Last season Scott finished as the runner-up for the Harlon Hill Award after rushing for 2,165 yards and scoring an NCAA Division II single-season record 39 touchdowns. Scott, who led the Wildcats to a 10-3 record and a second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II national playoffs, averaged 166.5 yards rushing per game. He scored six touchdowns in two games last season and twice broke the single-game rushing record, including rushing for 303 yards in the Wildcats' season-ending triple-overtime loss to Chadron State (Neb.) in the second round of the playoffs.

Malone directed an ACU offense that led the nation in scoring offense and ranked in the top six in total offense and passing offense. ACU became the first team in NCAA history to feature a 3,500-yard passer, a 2,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers in the same season. He threw for an ACU single-season record 3,914 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2007, and during the season he became the LSC's all-time leading passer. He will enter his senior season in 2008 with 8,799 yards and 78 touchdown passes to his credit.

Collins has started every game at center since he entered the program as a freshman in 2005 (34 straight games). Last year he helped lead one of the most prolific offenses in the nation as the Wildcats led the nation in fewest sacks allowed (0.62 per game) and scoring offense (49.2 ppg), while finishing second in total offense (544.8 ypg) and sixth in the passing offense (314.0 ypg).
