Angelo State and Midwestern State prevailed in the quarterfinals of the Lone
Star Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, which started Thursday at the Pitch
in Canyon, Texas.ASU topped Texas Woman’s 1-0, while MSU defeated Abilene Christian 1-0.
Both teams advance to Friday’s semifinals. The Rambelles face No. 2 seed Incarnate Word at 5 p.m., while the Mustangs play No. 1 West Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m.
ASU 1, TWU 0
After a scoreless first half, the Rambelles recorded the game’s only goal the 48:47 mark. Hanna Horeis’ shot from 35 yards out found the back of the net for her third goal this season. Lauren Bateman was credited with her second assist of the year.
ASU (11-7-1) won its second game in nine tournament appearances, and will make its second trip to the semifinals (2010). TWU’s season ends at 7-10-2 after a fourth trip to the championship.
MSU 1, ACU 0
MSU and ACU were even for the first 58 minutes before Payton Fookes' header put the Mustangs on top. Fookes scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Maddie Fraser.
The Mustangs (7-9-3) improved to 17-13 all-time at the tournament as the only school to play in all 17 championships. ACU, who made its fifth straight tournament, saw its season end at 8-10-1.
