LSC BASKETBALL
All 21 Lone Star Conference basketball teams have competed with six squads still undefeated early in the 2012-13 season.
The LSC men have a 22-8 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 7-5 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 1-1 opposed to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The LSC women are 12-15 overall. The women’s squads are currently 5-4 combined versus Heartland teams, and 3-0 against the RMAC, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

MEN’S OFFENSIVE
Steven Werner, Abilene Christian University, SR, Center, Fort Worth, Texas, Birdville HS
Newcomer and senior center Steven Werner averaged a double-double this past weekend at the ACU/Whitten Inn Classic, where the Wildcats beat York, 93-82, and Sul Ross, 83-66. Werner led ACU with 19.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. Against the Panthers, Werner had 17 points and 16 rebounds, and vs. the Lobos he had a season-high 21 points and 13 boards. Werner shared the team lead with 3 blocks.
MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Darnell Jackson, West Texas A&M University, SR, Guard, Savannah, Ga., Savannah HS
Jackson has stepped into a starting role for his first and only season at West Texas A&M as the senior guard averaged 10.5 points and a team leading 8.0 rebounds in WT’s wins against CSU-Pueblo and Oklahoma Christian this past weekend to pick up MVP honors at the 29th annual Al Kaly Shriners’ Classic in Pueblo, Colorado. The Savannah, Georgia native registered eight rebounds in each game to go along with a team leading 12 assists and four steals on the weekend. Jackson found teammate Kennon Washington open in the corner for a game winning three as time expired on Friday night as the Buffs topped CSU-Pueblo in their home opener.
WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE
Breanna Harris, Texas A&M University - Commerce, JR, Forward, Mansfield, Texas, Mansfield Summit HS
Harris scored 30 points and added 15 rebounds in A&M-Commerce’s 76-57 victory over Southern Arkansas Wednesday ... Harris hit 9 of 16 shots from the floor and 12-of-15 from the line ... She also grabbed 15 rebounds, 10 of which were offensive ... She had a double-double by halftime, recording 22 points and 11 rebounds in the first half as the Lions notched their most decisive victory in five seasons, also marking the first time in five years they were above .500.
WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE
Andrea Carter, Midwestern State University, SO, Forward, Angleton, Texas, Angleton HS
Carter helped lead Midwestern State to a pair of wins over Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams and a title in MSU’s Comfort Inn and Suites Ashbrook Classic. Carter double-doubled in both games, with 12 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots against Colorado Mines and 17 points with 13 rebounds and four steals against Fort Lewis (Colo.). MSU downed CSM 67-60 and Fort Lewis 68-54 to lead the LSC at 3-0 on the season. Carter shot 41.2 percent from the floor (7-17) and 83.3 percent from the foul line (15-18) as she averaged 14.5 points, 12.0 boards and 4.0 steals for the weekend and was named to the all-classic team.
