Athletics Director search committee narrows field to four


WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State University has narrowed its search for its next Athletics Director from a field of 25 to four.

A search committee appointed by MSU President Jesse Rogers paired the original field to seven telephone interviews before reaching a consensus to bring four finalists to campus.

The finalists include Florida State Associate Athletics Director Charles Carr, Newberry (S.C.) College Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Andrew Carter, former Eastern New Mexico Athletics Director Rosie Stallman and Wisconsin-Riverside Athletics Director David Williams.

The search committee will conduct campus visits over the next week.

Charles Carr

Charles Carr is an experienced athletic administrator of 30 years who has served as the senior associate athletics director at Florida State University since 1996.

He is the second in command at Florida State with a primary emphasis on academics, booster, programs and administration.

Carr previously served in a similar capacity at East Carolina University after serving as athletics director at Mississippi State University from 1985-87.

His administrative career began at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he earned undergraduate degree in 1968 and a master’s of education in 1970.

Andrew Carter

Andrew Carter, who has 10 years of athletic administrative experience, has served in his current capacity at Newberry (S.C.) College since 2002.

A former baseball coach at Missouri Baptist in St. Louis, Mo., Carter moved into the role of athletics director in 1997. As a coach, he led Missouri Baptist to seven consecutive conference championships.

Carter, who is also an instructor of business administration at Newberry, has served as an assistant director of admissions and an admissions recruiter.

He earned a business administration degree from Missouri Baptist in 1987 before completing his master’s degree in business administration from Lindenwood (Mo.) University in 1990.

Rosie Stallman

Rosie Stallman is a former Lone Star Conference athletics director with 16 years in NCAA administration.

Stallman, who served as the AD at Eastern New Mexico from 1997-2001 after a six-year stint serving in the same role at Texas Wesleyan, currently heads Project Fundraise East, a company that prepares administrators to use strategic planning and teamwork to aid in the enhancement of athletics budgets at all levels.

She also was the Director of Education Outreach for the NCAA from 2001-06 where she helped develop student-athlete life skills and served as coordinator for Title IX issues.

Stallman earned her undergraduate degree in physical education and health in 1974 and a master’s degree in athletic administration in 1981 both from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn.

David Williams

David Williams has served as an athletics administrator since accepting the associate athletic director position at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1999. After a nationwide search, he was offered his current position of athletics director in 2001.

Williams has also served as president of the Division II Athletic Director Association and has been instrumental in many facilities improvements at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

As an assistant athletic director, he was responsible for event management, game-day promotions and athletic marketing while concurrently serving as the men’s golf coach.

While earning an undergraduate degree in education from Augustana (S.D.) College and a master’s in education from North Dakota State, Williams has also earned experience as an assistant men’s basketball coach for 10 seasons at Augustana, North Dakota State and Wisconsin-Parkside.

I think that was also the year that "Scissors-gate" occurred.

Is it really a successful training camp if no one is stabbed int he neck with a pair of scissors?
