Back in the ol' town, well, much hasn't changed
Fire up the chorizo sausage burritos. I'm back.
Ten years ago this month, I packed the Camry, sedated the cat and motored 2,049 miles (Google Maps reminds me) to the Pacific Northwest. Five months later, my wife joined me, deplaning at Sea-Tac with our 6-week-old son in her arms.
He's almost 10 now, and we added a girl to complete the All-American family. There's also the dog, two cats, two finches and five or so fish, depending on the day.
Soon, we'll all be back in Abilene, a city in many ways that I found frozen in time.

West Texas A&M football coach Don Carthel accused me of going to "work for the enemy," the bad guys being the mighty again ACU Wildcats.
Both comments, of course, were in jest and accompanied by good wishes. It's rewarding to have people miss you when you're leaving, not kicking you in pants to get you out the door.
Rams, 'Belles sweep provide excitement
The Angelo State men's and women's basketball teams won't play again until Saturday when they make an 96-mile trip north to face Abilene Christian.
The Rams and 'Belles can probably use a week without a game after what happened Saturday night at the Junell Center.
Burns, McFall spark Buffs to win over ACU
Abilene Christian guard Dante Adams was about to have his shot blocked by Nick Burns in the first half Saturday night when he suddenly threw the ball off the court about eight feet away from the basket.
Incredibly, the ball bounced up and swished.
Thank goodness West Texas A&M's 77-63 win against Lone Star Conference South Division rival ACU wasn't a game of H-O-R-S-E.
