Buffs take down Mustangs
How does the first place West Texas A&M Buffs sound?
"It's a great win," said WT head coach Rick Cooper, minutes after his squad knocked off Midwestern State, 67-61, on Wednesday night in Lone Star Conference South Division play and end the Mustangs' 10-game winning streak. "But don't go there (about first place). That's way too early to even talk about that."
Fair or not, WT showed the 1,120 fans at First United Bank Center an inspired man-to-man defensive effort that held Midwestern State 19 points below its season average.
WT puts an end to Mustangs' 10-game win streak, 67-61
CANYON, Texas — Clinton McFall hit a clutch trey from the left corner to ignite a 7-2 run in the final 1:17 as West Texas A&M pulled away for a 67-61 Lone Star Conference South Division win over Midwestern State Wednesday night at First United Bank Center.
“That ball grazed the backboard, but that’s where luck comes in,” MSU coach Jeff Ray said.
The loss snapped the Mustangs’ 10-game winning streak and is MSU’s first setback since falling 56-55 at Northeastern State on Dec. 15.
