UPDATE
The use of a racial slur is what police believe spurred a group of West Texas A&M University football players to break into a home and attack a man.
Canyon Police Detective Shayne Mays said Arsenio Geter, who is a WT student but not a football player, went to the off-campus apartment of another student. The victim and Geter got into an argument and a racial slur was used.
He left the apartment and rounded up 25 to 30 WT students, the majority of whom police believe were football players. The players then went to the apartment and attempted to gain entry.
Mays said there may be more felony charges filed as the investigation continues. The investigation was delayed because the campus shut down shortly afterward for winter break.

Eight West Texas A&M University football players have been suspended from the team pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.
Warrants were issued for Kyle Thomas, Hector Rodriguez, Brittan Golden, Jesus Fajardo, Eugene Sims, Brandon Hicks, Shaka Harris and Javaen Tillman. According to the Randall County Sheriff's Office, everyone but Harris had turned themselves into police.
According to law enforcement, the players were refused entry to an off-campus house party in November. When they were turned away, they allegedly forced their way into the home.
