The Beaumont Enterprise is reporting that Texas A&M Commerce QB/WR coach Kevin Barbay and former UCO head coach Chuck Langston are among the 35 candidates for the position of athletic director/head football coach at Port Neches-Groves. Langston is currently the special teams coordinator at Groveton High School.
As reported in the Beacon Media News, former Texas A&M-Kingsville and West Texas A&M assistant football coach, Ben Noonan, has joined the staff at Citrus College. He will assume to offensive coordinator position for a team that was last in its division in scoring.
From the Mississippi State Bulldog website - former Northeastern State quarterback and assistant coach, Greg Knox will be joining Dan Mullen's staff, pending board approval. Knox began his coaching career at Northeastern State in 1988 as a graduate assistant. He was the wide receivers coach at Auburn for the past decade, as well as the recruiting coordinator.
Football Recruiting Notes
The Monroe News Star is reporting that Louisiana's Mr. Football, Blake Matherne, has been offered a scholarship by Texas A&M Commerce. In addition to being honored as the top player in the state at all levels, Matherne earlier was named Offensive Player of the Year on the Class 4A All-State team, Offensive Player of the Year on The Times Picayune All-Metro team, District 8-4A Offensive Player of the Year and Class 4A state championship game Most Valuable Player. He rushed for almost 1,300 yds and 20 TDs, and threw for 2,673 yds and 30 TDs while completing 70% of his passes.
According to the Cleburne Times-Review, Grandview senior Reid Golson, chose Mary Hardin Baylor to continue his playing career. Southeastern Oklahoma and West Texas A&M as well as other unnamed LSC programs were among the other schools showing interest in Golson.
