Abilene Christian Signing Day List




ABILENE -- ACU head football coach Ken Collums announced that the Wildcats had added 13 new players on Wednesday, nine high school signees and four mid-year junior college transfers.

Here are short bios on each with more to come from Coach Collums.


HIGH SCHOOL SIGNEES

• Keith Barnett, CB, 6-0, 180, Converse (Converse Judson HS) 
– Second team all-District 25-5A selection as a senior. ... Finished the 2011 season with 36 tackles, one interception and two pass breakups. ... Also on the track and field team at Judson where last year he helped the Rockets win the 4x100 relay in 42.03  

• Josh Bloom, DT, 6-1, 300, Kingwood (Kingwood Park HS) -- First team all-District 18-4A as a senior in 2011, despite playing in only five games. ... Expected to contribute to the ACU 4-3 defense right away as a freshman in 2012.

• Tyler Chapa, CB, 6-1, 180, San Antonio (Warren HS) -- First team selection on San Antonio Express-News all-Area Team. ... Finished his senior season with 44 tackles, 5 passes broken up, 6 interceptions, 23 receptions for 407 yds and 7 TDs. ... First team all-District 27-5A at both wide receiver and defensive back.

• Robbie Goldschmidt, LB / FB, 6-0, 230, The Woodlands (The Woodlands HS) – First team all-District 14-5A selection as a linebacker at The Woodlands. ... Also a baseball player at The Woodlands and is one of the top high school players in the state. ... His brother, Paul, is the first baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

• Chukwuma Oputa, LB, 5-11, 230, Dallas (Woodrow Wilson HS) – Two-year starter at Woodrow Wilson HS ... As a senior he finished with 120 tackles (55 solos), including 15 tackles for loss. ... He also had two interceptions and five fumble recoveries. ... As a junior he was a first team all-district selection and led the district in tackles.

• Parker McKenzie, QB, 5-11, 175, Spring Branch (Smithson Valley HS) – Second team San Antonio Express-News all-Area Team and second team all-District 27-4A. ... As a senior he completed 58 percent of his passes for 2,023 yds, 20 TDs and 4 interceptions. ... He also ran for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

• Chad Quisenberry, TE / H-Back, 6-2, 235, Wolfforth (Frenship HS) – As a senior, Quisenberry caught 22 passes for 457 yards and five touchdowns. ... First team all-district 3-4A at receiver. ... Also recruited heavily by New Mexico and Colorado State.  

• Christian Rodriguez, OL, 6-5, 270, Los Fresnos (Los Fresnos HS) – Second team all-Valley selection as a senior in 2011. ... One of the top offensive linemen in the Rio Grande Valley in 2011. ... Could also compete in the shot put and discus for the ACU track and field team.

• Cade Stone, QB / Athlete, 5-11, 175, North Richland Hills (FW Christian High School) -- An early commit to the United States Air Force Academy, Stone signed Wednesday morning the Wildcats. ... As a senior he was first team all-district and second team all-state at quarterback. ... As a junior he was the Special Teams Player of the Year and led the Cardinals to a state runner-up finish. ... As a sophomore he was an all-district selection and the district Newcomer of the Year.


JUNIOR COLLEGE TRANSFERS

• Garrett Langthorp, OL, 6-3, 290, Conroe (Blinn Junior College)
 -- Played at Blinn in 2009 and 2010 and was on the 2009 team that won the national championship, quarterbacked by Heisman Trophy winner and current Carolina Panther quarterback Cam Newton. ... Langthorp was a second team all-conference selection as a sophomore. ... At Oak Ridge HS in Conroe, he was a second team all-district selection and honorable mention academic all-state.

• Melvin Shead, DL, 6-0, 290, Cayuga (Kilgore College) -- First team all-state offensive lineman, second team defensive lineman in high school. ... Honorable Mention SWJCFC selection. ... Anchored a defensive line that led the conference in run defense. ... Finished his sophomore season with 19 tackles, 1 for loss and half a sack. ... As a freshman in 2010, Shead had 21 tackles and 2 sacks.

• Eric Frain, CB, 6-2, 205, Union, N.J. (L.A. Pierce College) – Has been clocked at 4.2 seconds in the 40-yard dash. ... One of six cornerbacks that played at L.A. Pierce College in 2011, Frain led the team with two interceptions. ... Played in four games in 2011, finishing with nine tackles, a team-best two interceptions and one pass breakup. ... Spent his freshman season in 2009 at Globe Institute of Technology in New York.

• Nick Finney, DL, 6-0, 300, Santa Fe Springs,  Calif. (Fullerton College) – In five games as a sophomore in 2011 at Fullerton College, Finney finished with seven tackles (two solo), including 2.5 tackles for loss and a half sack.
