Texas A&M-Commerce Signing Day List

COMMERCE, TEXAS -- Texas A&M University-Commerce head coach Guy Morriss and his staff have wrapped up their 2012 Lion signing class, announcing 23 additions to the A&M-Commerce roster. 19 of the newcomers will be freshmen this fall with four transfers aimed to bolster the Lion roster.

"Overall, we feel really good about this class, and feel we've addressed some key needs," said coach Morriss about his incoming class. "Our goal was to go out and find those players that we felt would best fit our system and were excited about coming to play here. We feel we reached that goal and are looking forward to getting these kids out on the practice field."

Morriss said he and his staff concentrated heavily this offseason on the quarterback and defensive back positions, two key areas that were hard-hit by injuries in 2011. The Lions should have ample depth heading into the fall season at both slots, adding five quarterbacks and six players to the defensive backfield including a pair of transfers at both positions.

Offensively, A&M-Commerce also brought in four wide receivers and a pair of offensive lineman while on the defensive side of the ball, the Lions added a pair of defensive linemen and two linebackers with a kick returner also brought into the mix on special teams.

"Looking over this class, we feel it is as strong as any class we've brought in and stacks up as well as with any of the classes before," said Morriss. "We are expecting all of the transfers to be competitive in spring workouts and compete for jobs from the opening practice. There are a few of the incoming high school players that have a chance to compete for a starting job as well, so we're looking forward to getting them out on the practice field.

A&M-Commerce begins its spring workouts in early April with the 2012 Blue and Gold game scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21st at Memorial Stadium. The Lions' 2012 season gets underway on Saturday, September 1st when A&M-Commerce plays host to Southeastern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
