Basketball Roundup 12-2

UTPB, injuries hamper Mustangs
ODESSA, Texas — It may be early in the season to have a two-week break, but
it couldn’t come at a better time for Midwestern State.

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin took advantage of an injured
Mustangs squad to claim its first victory over a Lone Star Conference opponent,
83-72, Monday night under the Falcon Dome.

“We’re a wounded team right now,” MSU coach Jeff Ray said. “We are trying
hard, but it’s tough to get any time or chemistry with the situation we have
right now.”

Zia Basketball Team Falls to Defending Conference USA Champions
EL PASO, TEXAS ? Sophomore Cat Clay (G, Deming, N.M./Deming HS) and
Til-Lois Fifer (F, Tulia, Texas/Tulia HS) scored 10 points apiece, while Kara
Bible (C, Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola HS) grabbed 10 rebounds, but the Eastern New
Mexico University women's basketball team (5-2) saw their five-game winning
streak snapped in an 87-44 loss to The University of Texas-El Paso (4-3) Monday
night at the Don Haskins Center.

The Miners entered the season as the defending Conference USA champions and
defeated Western Kentucky in the opening round of last season's NCAA Division I
women's basketball tournament.
