KINGSVILLE — Billy Garza hasn't thrown his final pass at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The record-setting Brownsville native, who transferred last fall from Illinois, will attend A&M-Kingsville on a part-time basis this spring, enabling him to play for the Javelinas in his 10th and final semester of eligibility next fall.
Garza won't be guaranteed the starting spot next season, however. Ramirez, Carroll-ex Logan Morris, Nate Poppell and injured redshirts Kolten Thigpen and David Garza all are expected to return.
"I'll tell you like I told all the quarterbacks and anybody who asked me. There's a lot of time between now and then," Atterberry said. "Billy's going to have to go part-time and we'll go through spring football and see who the starter is coming out of spring football. Billy's going to have to make sure he stays in shape and be ready to go because he'll be coming in this year like he did last year, coming in three weeks before the game and missing spring football."

If Bernard Scott doesn’t win the Harlon Hill Trophy, they need to stop giving it away.

Midwestern State coach Bill Maskill calls the 5-11, 200-pounder the best Division II running back he has seen.
“He’s strong. He’s powerful. He’s quick. He catches the ball. He’s real good,” said Maskill, who tried to recruit Scott off Blinn Junior College’s national championship team of 2006 but never felt he had a real shot at him.
“He spent the night with us when he was on his way to Central Missouri, but I think he was just doing it because it was Wichita Falls. His grades were also a concern to us. I don’t know if we could have gotten him in if he had wanted to come here,” he added.
