Sheldon Galloway
Notables: Galloway was fourth in the Southern California Football Association in receptions per game (6.6) and receiving yards per game (106.1). He caught 66 passes for 1,061 yards and seven touchdowns including a long of 70 yards last season at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Calif. Southwestern College, which was 7-4 in 2008, competed in the inaugural Tremblay Financial Services Bowl, but fell to Pasadena, 45-14. Galloway is related to Joey Galloway.
What coach Maskill said: "He's a big, athletic receiver that can run and catch."
Jordan Kulwitzky
Notables: Kulwitzky earned 2008 North California Football Association All-Valley Conference recognition after helping the College of the Sequioas to a 5-5 mark as a sophomore. The Giants were ninth in the 35-team NCFA averaging 170 rushing yards and rated fifth in total offense with 405.9 total yards per game.
What coach Maskill said: "He is big, burly kid that will compete for playing time. He's is a big athletic lineman that can run and move well. His future is in front of him."
Kirk Risby
Notables: Risby garnered second-team All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference honors and was second in the league with six interceptions as a sophomore in 2008. He also recorded 22 tackles from the secondary as Trinity Valley CC finished with a 6-4 mark. Risby is a cousin of former MSU running back Chris Risby.
What coach Maskill said: "Kirk is a bigger corner height-wise and really athletic. I'm looking forward to having him here with us to compete in the fall."
Chris Shaw
Notables: Helped Northwest Mississippi CC to consecutive 6-3 regular seasons as the Rangers advanced to the first round of the Mississippi State Playoffs in 2007 and 2008 as a starter on the defensive line.
What coach Maskill said: "He's an older, mature kid who is just a block of granite. Chris is rock solid with great character."
Nathan Bidelman
Notables: Bidelman garnered District 9-3A first-team honors after helping the Bobcats to a Class 3A state finalist appearance as a senior in 2008. Bidelman also earned Class 3A first-team all-state recognition from the Texas Sportswriters of America.
What coach Maskill said: "Nathan is a big offensive lineman with his future in front of him. He's lean and runs extremely well for a kid his size."
Christopher Bisson
Notables: Garnered District 16-5A honorable mention after leading Vista Ridge High with 28 receptions for 471 yards and two touchdowns as a senior in 2008. Also named to the Hill Country News Dazzling Dozen.
What coach Maskill said: "Christopher is a taller receiver that is athletic. He returned punts and kickoffs at Vista Ridge. He'll bring speed and size that we haven't had."
Zach Bracken
Notables: Bracken garnered Class 3A second-team all-state honors from the Texas Sportswriters' Association after earning District 8-3A Co-Defensive MVP accolades after recording a team-high 150 tackles (14 for loss) as a senior in 2008. Bracken was also named Wise County Messenger Defensive Player of the Year.
What coach Maskill said: "Zach is a tough, hardnosed physical football player that will run though the wall for you."
Dayarion Broadnax
Notables: Broadnax garnered Associated Press Sports Editors' and Texas Sportswriters Association all-state honors as an offensive lineman last season at Brenham High, but the Mustangs plan to utilize his size and athleticism on defense. Broadnax, who made 29 tackles last season for the Cubs, was a three-year starter as a prep and appeared in 37 varsity contests at BHS. The Cubs reached the Class 4A region III title game this season as they made their fifth-straight postseason appearance.
What coach Maskill said: "Dayarion is a big, physical aggressive kid who I expect to be a really good run stopper. He'll give us a presence inside."
Thomas Carper
Notables: Carper garnered first-team All-District 12-4A honors after finishing 10th in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro Area with 72 receptions for 1,019 yards and five touchdowns as a senior for Bryan Adams High in 2008.
What coach Maskill said: "Thomas is an interesting case. He was offered scholarships at Northern Colorado, Wyoming and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He can return punts and kickoffs and has the best hands of anyone we've recruited. He could see playing time next year."
Dylan Deford
Notables: Deford earned second-team All-District 5-4A honors as a senior in 2008. He helped Rider to a regional final appearance in 2007 and to the second round of the Texas schoolboy playoffs in 2008.
What coach Maskill said: "Dylan got a lot of interest late from Division I. He will be a tremendous asset to our line in the future. Signing Dylan is a big time deal for us."
Kyle Echols
Notables: Echols earned first-team All-District 5-3A honors as a nose guard as a senior in 2008. He rushed for 112 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown against Abilene Wylie on Aug. 29, 2008 before an injury forced him to primarily a defensive role.
What coach Maskill said: "We're looking at him as fullback or h-back. He's a tough, physical guy who will play hard."
Dozie Ejesieme
Notables: Ejesieme garnered second-team All-District 10-5A accolades as a senior in 2008.
What coach Maskill said: "Dozie is a raw kid who is very aggressive and can run."
Chauncey Harris II
Notables: Harris garnered Texas Prep Insider third-team all-state and was a Texas Sportswriters Association honorable mention all-state pick after earning District 27-5A Offensive MVP honors as a senior in 2008. Harris rushed for 1,929 yards while leading the Rockets to a district championship. Converse Judson reached the Class 5A state finals in 2007.
What coach Maskill said: "Chauncey is the same kind of back as Marcus Mathis. He's very quick and very elusive with great acceleration. He could see time next season."
Chad Harrison
Notables: Harrison earned first-team All-District 5-3A honors as a wide receiver as a senior in 2008. The three-year letterman had 35 catches for 620 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Eagles and averaged 18 yards per reception. A two-sport standout, Harrison earned all-district accolades as an outfielder at DHS as a junior.
What coach Maskill said: "Chad is a guy that catches the ball well and runs well after the catch. He gives us more size and flexibility in the H-position that we haven't had."
Justin Henderson
Notables: Henderson is a versatile athlete who was the District 11-3A Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 and was a first-team all-district selection as a pitcher last spring on the baseball diamond.
What coach Maskill said: "Justin is a physical, big safety. He brings size, toughness and aggressiveness to the secondary."
Vaughn Howard
Notables: Howard was a second-team All-District 7-5A selection at tackle as a senior in 2008 at MacArthur High School.
What coach Maskill said: "Vaughn is a very good academic kid. He's going to do nothing but get better. He fits the same mold as the linemen that we've had and is athletic and can run."
Keidrick Jackson
Notables: Came on strong in postseason as Bowie High School advanced to the regional finals. Jackson rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-35 win over Midland High in the Class 5A Area Round on Nov. 22 at Wichita Falls' Memorial Stadium.
What coach Maskill said: "Keidrick will give us the flexibility with a thick, physical back yet he has quick feet with explosive ability."
Brandon Jeffery
Notables: : Jeffery garnered Associated Press Sports Editors Class 4A all-state honorable mention and was the District 9-4A Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Denison High School Yellojackets with 118 total tackles (72 solo). He also finished his senior campaign with three sacks, five pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
What coach Maskill said: "Brandon is an undersized linebacker who plays downhill. He's really physical and can run."
Bryan Keith
Notables: : Keith garnered second-team All-District 5-4A accolades as a senior in 2008.
What coach Maskill said: "Bryan has the height and athleticism. We expect big things from him in the future."
Tim Kemp
Notables: : Kemp was the Defensive MVP of District 19-3A after making 50 tackles and recording six sacks for La Vega High during his senior campaign in 2008. Named to the 2008 Super Centex First Team by the Waco Tribune. Kemp also earned honorable mention all-state by the Texas Sportswriters Association.
What coach Maskill said: "Tim is versatile. He played linebacker, defensive end and tackle in high school. We project as a defensive tackle."
Quincy King
Notables: : King garnered second-team All-District 9-5A honors as a senior in 2008 when he was also named first-team all-city by the Richardson ISD.
What coach Maskill said: "Quincy is an athletic defensive lineman that can run. His future is in front of him. If he can't play inside, he'll be able to contribute at defensive end."
Antwone Moore
Notables: : Moore was a first-team All-District 5-4A selection for Wichita Falls High as a senior in 2008. He led the Coyotes with 586 yards on 41 receptions and six touchdowns during his senior season and was third on the team with 341 rushing yards and four scores. Moore, who caught 49 passes for 512 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, hauled in 90 career receptions for 1,098 yards as a two-year starter at WFHS.
What coach Maskill said: "Antwone is a good athletic as anyone that we signed. He can catch and he can run and will fit in well with our program."
Kerry Nation
Notables: : Nation is an athletic corner with natural coverage skills who garnered first-team All-District 9-5A honors as a senior at Dallas Skyline High School.
What coach Maskill said: "Kerry is a really good corner. He's probably undersized, but he can run and has good ball skills. I really like him."
Josh Neal
Notables: : Anchored defensive line for a strong program as a senior at West Mesquite High School. Neal scored on an 80-yard fumble return against Waxahachie on Nov. 15.
What coach Maskill said: "Josh was one of the first guys we really, really wanted to get. He's thick, athletic and makes plays. He's got size and I really like the way he moves."
Stefan Nelson
Notables: : Nelson was an All-District 12-4A selection as a senior in 2008 at Dallas Hillcrest High School. He was named Dallas Morning Sports Day Defensive Player of the Week after making 12 tackles, recording a pass breakup and returning a fumble 47 yards for a touchdown in a 20-13 win over Pinkston High.
What coach Maskill said: "Stefan is a slight corner who can run and is very athletic."
Quinton Rollerson
Notables: Rollerson was named District 10-3A Offensive MVP after passing for a school-record 1,667 yards in the regular season in 2008 when he paced Paris High School to a district championship.
What coach Maskill said: “Quinton is a big 6-5, athletic quarterback who is going to do nothing but get better as time rolls on.”
Peter Smith
Notables: : Smith dazzled at Forney High School where he rushed for 2,020 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior in 2008. He was named District 15-4A MVP after leading the Jackrabbits to a district championship. The undersized Smith also garnered Associated Press Sports Editors honorable mention all state accolades last season.
What coach Maskill said: "Peter is a little fireplug. He is very strong, very physical and very quick. We targeted from the very beginning as a guy we really wanted to get."
Tyler Tackett
Notables: Tackett garnered first-team All-District 5-4A honors at defensive end as a senior in 2008. He was third on the squad during the regular season with 54 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble and three pass break ups last season. He helped Rider to a regional final appearance in 2007 and to the second round of the Texas schoolboy playoffs in 2008.
What coach Maskill said: "Tyler knows just one speed and he is always going full-speed in practice. He adds versatility as he can play outside or inside linebacker."
Brandon Teinert
Notables: Teinert garnered all-state honorable mention by the Texas Sportswriters Assocation and he was named first team All-District 16-5A as a senior at Georgetown High.
What coach Maskill said: "Brandon is a 6-3, 290-pound lineman in the same mold of all the linemen we recruit. He's big, athletic and has good feet."
Stanley Thomas
Notables: Physical, athletic defensive lineman notched three sacks against League City Clear Springs High School on Sep. 5, 2008.
What coach Maskill said: "Stanley is very athletic, aggressive and physical. He will grow into a bigger player. He uses his hands well and will be able to do a lot of things."
Marqueez Turner
Notables: Turner earned first-team All-District 12-4A accolades as a senior at Dallas Bryan Adams High School in 2008.
What coach Maskill said: "Marqueez is a thick kid. He's athletic, can run and will get bigger."
