We are trying to confirm a report that he will be transferring to Texas Tech. That would require sitting out a year, but would leave him with one year of eligibility in 2012. We will update as soon as we have confirmation.

Due to the fact we don't release specifics on off the field issues we won't confirm what was done except announce that West Texas A&M junior tight end/wide receiver hybrid Tyson Williams was kicked off the team recently for violating team rules. The good times just keep rolling for Steele High School football coach Mike Jinks.
Three weeks after the Knights beat Denton Guyer 24-21 for the Class 5A Division II state title, Jinks is back in the spotlight as an assistant coach for the West squad in Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
“I feel really blessed,” Jinks said Thursday. “It’s kind of surreal, really. Two things have stood out about this week. The first is the phenomenal job the Army does in putting on this game. Everything is first class. Then there are the players. For whatever reason, maybe it’s the negativity in us all, but I thought there would be some prima donnas out here. It’s been the opposite. All the players out here have been great to work with.”
Lost in all the hoopla of Steele’s march to the state championship was a story that pretty much stayed under the radar last month. The Knights were in the midst of their playoff run when a person involved in the search for a new head coach at Angelo State called Jinks to gauge his interest in returning to his alma mater. A 1990 Judson graduate, Jinks was a starting quarterback at ASU for two seasons and led the Rams to the NCAA Division II playoffs as a senior in 1994. Highly regarded in ASU circles, Jinks expressed interest in the Rams’ job and got indications he would be a front-runner for the position if he pursued it. Jinks, 38, said Thursday that he went to bed on the night before Steele’s game against Houston Memorial in the state semifinals with his mind set on returning to ASU.
“I told the people up there that I’d take the job if we won it all,” Jinks said, referring to the state championship. “I pretty much was set to go if I got the opportunity.”
But Jinks had a change of heart after the Knights beat Houston Memorial 44-20 on Dec. 11 to earn a berth in the state final in only their fifth varsity season.
“After I saw everybody so happy when we won, I told my wife that I couldn’t leave,” Jinks said. “The idea of going back to Angelo State excited me, but I felt like I made the right decision.”
Jinks said he called the ASU committee member on the Sunday after Steele’s victory in the semifinals to withdraw his name from the coaching search.

In a new development for the 2011 game, the Texas A&M-Kingsville athletics department and the school's Communications Department and their students will jointly produce a live webcast of the event. This will be a complete production with anchors, sideline reporters, and pre- and post-game interviews.
The live webcast will be produced by the Texas A&M-Kingsville Communications Department and their students and is available through the Cactus Bowl website or directly at www.tamuk.edu/southtexan. The game also will be broadcast on the radio at Sports Radio Corpus Christi 1230 AM and streamed at www.sportsradiocc.com, again courtesy of the Javelina communications and athletics department. Live Stats will also be available through the Cactus Bowl website.

The most difficult task that faces Cactus Bowl president Ruben Cantu is getting 82 football players to South Texas during the holidays with all of the ensuing weather complications that the season brings.
That doesn’t take into account all of the planning, logistical headaches and wheel-greasing to raise funds for the NCAA Division II all-star football game that has called Kingsville home since 2001.
To date, however, the event has been worthwhile to the surrounding area and isn’t likely to be departing any time soon.
“As long as the board wants it, we will do it, and as long as the city of Kingsville backs it, I think we will to do it,” said Cantu, who also doubles as Texas A&M-Kingsville’s assistant athletics director and head trainer. “I know that the last three days are taxing on a lot of people. We’ve got to get all our monies in and stuff like that. It’s a little nerve racking, I’ll be honest with you. But because of the support the university gives me, the support the athletic department gives me, they allow us to do this.”
