Four student-athletes earned Lone Star Conference Softball Player of the Week honors for their performances last week, league officials announced today.
Players of the Week
NORTH HITTER
Cassy Tice, Southeastern Oklahoma, Jr., OF, Pampa, Texas/Pampa HS
Tice turned in a big outing in Southeastern's weather-shortened weekend, helping the Storm to a 2-1 record with wins over Washburn and Central Missouri and the lone loss coming to nationally ranked Nebraska-Omaha. Tice hit .600 on the weekend and turned in a .636 on-base percentage en route to slugging a whopping 1.100. She was 6-of-10 at the plate with a home run, two doubles, four RBI, four runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
NORTH PITCHER
Wanda Malone, East Central, Jr., Pitcher, Ponder, Texas/Ponder HS
Malone pitched four shutout innings for the victory and allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out six as East Central ripped Southern Arkansas 11-0 in a 4 1/2 inning contest. Malone, who has been battling an ankle injury, struck out the side in the second inning as she recorded four strikeouts in a row in that contest.
SOUTH HITTER
Sarah Blair, West Texas A&M, So., Pitcher, Katy, Texas/James E. Taylor
Blair went 5-for-8 scoring five runs in five hits and driving in seven RBIs, giving her a slugging percentage of 1.875. Blair crushed a homer a game for a total of three this weekend. Blair has a slugging percentage of .997 for the season. Topping the leader boards in home runs (6), RBIs (24), batting average (.442) and total bases (42), Blair has lead the Lady Buffs to a 13-6 season record.
SOUTH PITCHER
Shelbey Cockrell, West Texas A&M, So., Pitcher, Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS
Cockrell pitched seven innings last weekend in three games against Cameron University. During her time on the mound, Cockrell picked up two saves allowing just four hits, one run, with her 15 strike-outs, to lead the Lady Buffs to a 2-1 weekend.
