Disney Tip Off Classic canceled

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Division II Conference Commissioners Association and Disney Sports Attractions announced June 25 that the 2010 Disney’s Division II East Coast Tip-Off Classic has been canceled.

Tarleton's men's and women's teams were each selected to participate in the annual tournament, but the tournament will not be played this year due to fact that a tournament field could not be set.
During the past 13 years, Disney’s Division II East Coast Tip-Off Classic has welcomed 71 men’s teams from 29 states and 62 women’s teams from 26 states. The 2010 event had been scheduled November 5-7 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Two teams and one individual will be going into the Javelina Hall of Fame on September 17 at a ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Student Union Building Ballrooms.
   
The 1969 Men’s Golf and 1976 Football teams and track star Lashawndra Ratcliff are the newest inductees into the Hall of Fame.  Each individual and coach on the teams will receive two tickets while Ratcliff will be given eight tickets to the event.  For all others wanting to attend the ceremony the cost of $25 will include a catered meal, parking pass and ticket to the football game against Texas A&M-Commerce and the volleyball game on Saturday, September 18.
   
In addition to the induction ceremony and game, there will also be a Hall of Fame Golf Tournament on Saturday morning.  Registration begins at 8 a.m. and play starts at 9 a.m.  The format will be a four-person scramble and will be played at L.E. Ramey Golf Course in Kingsville.  Cost for the tournament is $100 per person or $400 per team followed by the tailgate at Javelina Stadium at 4 p.m. 
   
For those not playing in the Hall of Fame Golf Tournament, there is a Javelina Volleyball match at 2 p.m. against Central Oklahoma in the Steinke Center.  Your football game ticket will also get you into the volleyball game.

CANYON, Texas – A trio of West Texas A&M Lady Buff golfers have been named to the NGCA (National Golf Coaches Association) Division II All-American Scholar Team announced this morning from the association’s office in Coral Springs, Florida. A total of 494 golfers were honored from the three divisions of the NCAA with this prestigious honor.

Sara Coe, Mollie Peterson and Eva Rogers were named to the team as recognition for their hard work in the classroom. Coe and Peterson are both Education majors while Rogers is studying Business at WT.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, the minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

The Lady Buffs finished in fourth place at the NCAA South West Regional 4 to fall just two strokes short of qualifying for the NCAA National Tournament under fifth year head coach Meredith Jameson.
Texas A&M University-Commerce sophomore women's golfer Malonie Oats was named to the 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Golf Team on Monday.

The Cooper, Texas native ended her sophomore season with an 85.39 stroke average in nine tournaments. She finished 37th at the Lone Star Conference Championships, including a career-best round of 75 in the final round. She posted a season-best tied for 29th place finish at the Red River Intercollegiate.

Oats was also named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom and on the golf course. She'll be the treasurer in 2010-11 of the A&M-Commerce Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (July 6) – Central Oklahoma’s Raelynn Farthing has been named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team for NCAA Division II, it was announced Tuesday.

It’s the second straight year for Farthing to make the elite squad, which requires student-athletes to have a minimum 3.50 grade point average while having competed in at least 66 percent of their team’s schedule.

A senior-to-be from Muskogee, Farthing played in all 10 tournaments for the Bronchos in 2009-10 and finished with an 80.9 scoring average. She had four top-20 finishes, capped by a seventh-place effort in the Lone Star Conference Championships.

Farthing was also an Academic All-LSC selection for the second time this year.
