Baseball Weekend Matchups (2/17)

Eastern New Mexico (6-2, 0-0) at Northeastern State (4-4, 0-0) Series cancelled
The Greyhounds took 3 of 4 from Colorado Mines, outscoring the Ore Diggers by a 38-26 margin. They are hitting .356 scoring 10.6 runs per game, while allowing 6.5. Three starting pitchers have ERAs of 3.60 or better, and four starting batters are hitting .400 or better. NSU split with Missouri Southern last week, and the Riverhawks also own a two-game sweep over Central Missouri. They are hitting .307, scoring 9 runs per game, while allowing 9.333. They have three starting pitchers with ERAs of 3.68 or better. Joel Eusebio leads the offense with a .579 average.

Angelo State(7-4, 3-1) at Southeastern Oklahoma(1-3, 1-3)
ASU takes three of four 6-4, 4-1, 5-0, 3-13
SEO will be playing their season opener as they host the Rams. Last weekend, ASU won the opener against #7 Delta State 3-1, but dropped the last two 1-8 and 1-9. West Texas A&M(1-5, 0-3) at Central Oklahoma(8-0, 3-0)
UCO sweeps WTAM 19-0, 9-1, 15-14
WT won the finale 13-4 to salvage a win last week against Sul Ross, after losing two close games 6-8 and 2-3. They are hitting .321, scoring 7 runs a game, while giving up 5. Brian Schupp hit .643 with 5 HRs and 10 RBIs in the series. UCO beat Missiour Southern and national power Central Missouri by a combined 21-3 margin last week to remain undefeated. As a team, they are hitting .333, scoring 11 runs a game, while allowing just over 3. Dean McIntyre is 2-0 after holding the Mules to 2 runs last weekend.

East Central (4-8, 1-3) at Texas A&M-Kingsville (6-2, 3-1)
ECU wins opener 10-9, TAMK takes last three 5-0, 18-3, 3-0
Ortinginally scheduled for Ada, this series was moved to Kingsville due to inclement weather. ECU was swept by Central Missouri last week 4-0, 8-6, and 16-5. They are hitting .282, scoring 4.5 runs per game, while allowing just over 7. Their starting pitching has been good, with 3 starters sporting ERAs at 3.60 or lower. Dusty Rowland is hitting.423 with 10 RBI. TAMK beat UT-Brownsville 5-1 and Texas A&M-International 20-3 last week, extending their winning streak to three. They are hitting .344 scoring just under 11 runs per game, while allowing just under 6. Six starters are hitting .333 or higher.

Abilene Christian (4-5, 3-0) at Southwestern Oklahoma (2-6, 0-3)
ACU Sweeps 6-1, 15-5, 10-1
The Wildcats are off to a very slow start, having dropped 5 in a row after winning their opener. Their opponents, Delta State and Southern Arkansas were a combined 86-33 last year and this year are currently tied for the #10 national ranking. They are hitting .294, scoring 6.7 runs per game, while allowing 10.3. Trey Watten is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA (the only starter under 8.00). Mike Elkerson leads the offense with a .524 average and 8 RBI. The Bulldogs took two from St Gregorys last week, after being swept by Henderson State to open the season. They are hitting .299 and scoring 7.4 runs per game, while allowing 6.2. Dakota Streber leads the team with a .647 average and 5 RBI.

Tarleton State (7-4, 2-2) at Cameron (84, 2-2)Series moved to Tarleton
Teams split series TSU 9-0, 10-6, Cameron 11-3, 14-13
The Texans were blasted by St Marys 21-5, after sweeping a three-game series with Henderson State 14-10, 7-4, and 10-9. They are hitting .333, scoring 7.5 per game, while giving up 8.6 (drops to 6.9 if you take out the St Mary's game). Six batters are hitting over .300. Greg Sillivent has 2 homers and 13 RBI to lead the offensive attack. Cameron dropped two to Central Missouri last week, after taking 4 from Pittsburg State earlier. They are hitting .278 and are scoring 4.3 per game. The pitching has been impressive, allowing just under 3 runs per game, and not allowing more than 4 in any game so far. The ERAs of their starters range from 2.57 to 3.24.
