The LSC Scoop has learned that Midwestern State Defensive Coordinator Cary Fowler has resigned his post at MSU, and accepted the same position at Tarleton State.
Fowler, who spent the last 7 years at MSU as their Defensive Coordinator, resigned late Thursday night. According to sources, the Tarleton football team was advised of the move on Thursday night as well.
This marks the 3rd coach to leave Midwestern in the past few days, with Defensive Backs Coach Allen Johnson leaving to take the Defensive Coordinator position at Texas A&M-Commerce, and Offensive Coordinator Glenn Thomas leaving to take the Quality Control position with the Atlanta Falcons.

This one is kind of a head scratcher.
Why leave a school where you've had success, for the same position at another school in your conference?
What makes Tarleton more attractive than Midwestern?
How many times has MSU beat TSU during that time when Fowler has had success at MSU?

Does that mean the Tarleton coaches should try to get on with WTAM or ACU when they have openeings?
Is coordinator at TAMUC to coordinator at TAMUK a lateral move if TAMUK offer you a pay raise? I don't think so. They are similar jobs, but if TAMUK pays more money then it wins hands down over TAMUC as far as football jobs due to all the history, upside, etc. Same principle applies between MSU and TSU.
Why is it a "great" hire for the Texans if the Texans continued to defeat MSU? Shouldn't they hire a guy they couldn't defeat instead of a guy they could?
Does Tarleton beat Midwestern hands down as far as history, upside, etc. To me they look very similar, with Midwestern having the upper hand the past 4 years.
In the past 4 years, Tarleton has a 29-13 record with no playoff appearances. Midwestern State is 32-13 with 2 appearances and its first playoff win.
So either Tarleton is paying a lot better or the environment at Tarleton is better than Midwestern.
The environment is better (more support) and they are paying better (more money). And Tarleton has defeated MSU five straight meetings (more wins), including four in a row in Wichita Falls. And Tarleton is 61-26 since Maskill took over at MSU, while MSU is 59-32. Did I miss something? They are both good jobs, but Tarleton is a better job for the reasons I stated long ago.
Doesn't look like Midwestern has the upper hand to me.
But I agree about not sure it's a great hire if he is so easy to beat every year. Seems like Tarleton always hangs 30 or 40 on MSU every year too.
I have heard good thinsg about Fowler though.
Am hearing Midwestern will have much less talent on the field this next year. That probably has a lot to do with the defections
I think that is it great to have a new coach come to MSU-same old coaching time for a change.If Fowler is so great why would he go to another D2 and not go D1??? It can't be for the money.
Is Fowler only good enough for the D2 level off caoching? Maybe that is why he has to stay in the LSC-Not qualified for more.

I agree with one of the earlier comments.If Tarleton can beat MSU every year home or awayway do they need Fowler. Is he not D1 ready?
Give Fowler one season and Tarelton will be replacing him! Then will he go to ACU or WTAM?
Looks like some MSU faithful are trying to save a little face by knocking Fowler.
Maybe he just had enough and was ready for a change of scenery.
The post about Fowler needing a change of scenery I think is true.You still would think he could get a D1 coaching job-maybe that is why he has had to stay at MSU for so many years he is only D2 material.
the reason he was at D2 level for so long is because Maskill SQUASHES every job opportunity behind all of his coaches backs. This is a known fact at MSU. Just ask ANY of the assistant coaches from the past....he's been through like 50. EVERYONE tries to leave and it doesn't matter for what. Maskill will get what is coming to him because of the kind of person he is.
I've heard the AD there is about as "classy" as Maskill is too. Not a place people like being very long.
