TAMK wins opener 6-0. Mario Gonzalez allows 3 hits over 8 innings, Joe Hamon raises his average to .618 by going 4-4 w/a HR and 3 RBI, 2 R.
Game two for the Javelinas, 5-1. Tim Jones limits the Bulldogs to 5 hits, barely missing back-to-back shutouts. Thmas Miller hit a two-run homer in the seventh, and Lee Venegas went 2-4 driving in 2 and scoring 2. For SWO, Dakota Streber goes 3-4 with a solo home run.
The Javelinas take the third game, 5-3. Josh Livingston threw a complete game, allowing 6 hits in 7 innings, striking out 8. Joe Hamon drove in 2, and hit his 2nd home run of the season. Caleb Cole, went 2-3 with a triple, knocking in 2 runs for teh Bulldogs.
SWO takes game four 5-3 to avoid the sweep. Chris Morrison improved to 2-1 on the season, with six-plus strong innings, giving up only one earned run. Jeff Robinson pitched the final two and a third innings, allowing one hit and no runs for the save.
Dakota Streber went 4-5 with a double, drove in a run and scored one to lead the Bulldog offense.
For the series, Streber went 8-16, including his second HR of the season, drove in 2 and scored two. Joe Hamon went 8-15, hit 2 HRs, scored 4 runs and drove in 5.
East Central (6-10, 3-5) at West Texas A&M (3-7, 2-5)
In a slugfest, WTAM takes the opener of this series 13-12, holding off a Tiger rally that almost saw them overcome a 12-5 deficit heading into the 7th inning. Brian Schupp hit his 6th HR and drove in 3 runs, while Darby Walker had 2 doubles and drove in 3 as well. ECU's Zach Hammons hit a grand slam in the third and the Tigers outhit the Buffs 16-11, but the Buffs escape with the win.
The bats continued to be the story in game two as ECU pulls out a 11-10 win. Lucas Armenta hit three HRs, including a two-run shot in the ninth to bring on extra innings, then another two run shot in the tenth. Brian Schupp had two HRs for WTAM.
In the nightcap, Brian Schupp continued his hot hitting, knocking in 3 runs and hitting a walk off solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead WTAM to a 10-9 win. Greg Shanks had 3 hits, scored twice and drove in 2. The teams have combined for 81 hits and 65 runs in the first three games.
ECU gets the series split with a 10-0 win Sunday. Kolbie Brown throws 8 innings of 4 hit shutout ball, and Clint Bowker and Zach Hammons each had 3 hits and Trevor Gavin, Tyler Pybas and Lucas Armenta each drove in two runs for the Tigers
Cameron (9-7, 3-5) at Angelo State (11-5, 6-2)
Angelo State wins the opener 8-1. Sean Winschler goes 7 strong innings, allowing only 1 run on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 8. Steven Allred, Shan Sullivan and Trey Carter each get 2 hits, with Allred knocking in 3 runs, and Sullivan 2. Josh Barnett goes 3-4 for Cameron.
Cameron takes game two 7-5. Josh Barnett hit a leadoff HR for the Aggis, and Blake Watson had a two run shot as well.
Angelo State was able to overcome a 9-2 deficit heading into their last at bat in the second game. Trey Carter's three run double was the ninth straight Ram hit, and gave the Rams a 10-9 win in the nightcap.
Rams take finale, 13-3. Bret Nightengale, in his first start of the season, only gave up three runs on three hits. Shan Sullivan had four hits to lead the Rams. Cameron did not help themselves in the field, committing six errors.
Southeastern Oklahoma (2-7, 2-5) at Eastern New Mexico (8-3, 2-1)
Luis Estrella goes the distance to pick up his first win in the opener, as SEO wins 7-2. He alloweds just 2 runs on 5 hits and struck out 12. Trey Wingo drove in 3 and he and Randall Clay each had homers for SEO. Jonathan Marbury had 3 of ENMU's 5 hits including 2 solo homers.
ENMU takes game two 23-13. The Greyhounds pounded out 26 hits, including 5 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 HRs. Tyler Hayes and Ethan Wagner each drove in 5 runs, while Freddy Carmona and Seth Clabaugh knocked in 4.
Game three also goes to ENMU, as they score the final 7 runs of the game to win 12-6. Only 13 hits this time for the Greyhounds, but Ismael Solis goes the distance, allowing 6 earned runs in 7 innings, improving his record to 2-0.
SEO takes the finale 22-1, to split the series. With the score 2-1 in favor of SEO after four innings, the Savage Storm exploded for 8 runs in the fifth, and 12 more the rest of the way. Trey Wingo drove in 7 runs and Randall Clay and Ryan Bowen each drove in 4.
Northeastern State (5-6, 1-2) at Tarleton State (9-6, 4-3)
Texans take opener 6-2. Danny Morris pitched 8 innings of 6-hit ball and improved to 4-0 on the season. Greg Terpenning knocked in the go ahead runs with a two run double in the fourth. Jimmy Pike had three hits in a losing effort for the Riverhawks.
Game two to the Riverhawks in a slugfest that makes the ENMU-SEO game or the ECU-WTAM series look like a pitchers duels. NSU scored in every inning to take a 31-20 win over Tarleton. Chris Bennet gets the victory, despite giving up 12 runs in 3 and a third innings. LINK TO BOX SCORE. The teams combined 47 hits, for 11 doubles, a triple, and 10 HRs. Just too many hitting heroes to single anyone out.
Game three a relatively mild 7-6 Texan win. Greg Terpenning went the distance for Tarleton, allowing just 7 hits and striking out 8. Justin Delay did hit a 2 run, 2 out HR to draw NSU to within one, but Jimmy Pike flew out to end the game and a wild day in Stephenville.
Jacob Etzkorn got his first win of the season as the Riverhawks beat Tarleton 10-3 to gain a split in the weekend series. Joel Eusebio had 3 hits and drove in 4 runs to lead NSU.
Matchup of the Week
Central Oklahoma (11-2, 5-2) at Abilene Christian (6-8, 5-2)
Trailing 3-0 after three innings, UCO outscores ACU 7-1 the rest of the way to win the opener 7-4. Tyler Carroll led the way with 3 hits, including a home run, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs and even stole a base.ACU needed a triple play in the eighth inning to hold off UCO 12-11 in game one Saturday. Cameron Satten drove in 3 runs and 4 other Wildcats knocked in 2. Mike Moctezuma had 3 hits and drove in 4 runs for UCO.
The Bronchos salvaged a split, winning the second game 12-10. Breck Draper went 3-3, knocking in 2 runs and scoring twice. UCO led 10-3 after 4 innings and held on to a 12-10 win. Trey Watten hit his second home run of the season in a losing effort.
Matt Spotanski had the big 2 run single in the seventh to put ACU on top 3-1. Trey Watten outdueled Breck Draper, throwing a complete game, limiting UCO to 6 hits and one unearned run.
In boxing terms, this would qualify as a no decision - Both teams landed some big punches, but no one was knocked out. ACU has to be pleased with winning 2 of the last three and beating Draper, while UCO should be happy to travel to Abilene and leave with a split.
