Softball: Championship field set
RICHARDSON, Texas – The eight-team field has been determined for this week's Lone Star Conference Softball Championship, which will be played over three days at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex in Durant, Okla., starting on Thursday, May 6.
The top four teams from both the North and South Divisions advanced to the NCAA Regional format double-elimination event. The field includes: Midwestern State Central Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma and East Central from the North and West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Texas Woman’s and Tarleton State from the South.
MSU is the top seed in the North Division, while UCO is No. 2, SE is No. 3 and ECU No. 4. The Mustangs claimed the North crown with a 20-2 record in league play.
WTAMU won the LSC South Division with a 14-4 mark to earn the No. 1 seed. ASU is the No. 2 seed, TWU is No. 3 and Tarleton is No. 4.
The tournament begins on Thursday at 12 p.m. with first round games. Action continues on Thursday with winner’s and loser’s bracket games at 2:30 p.m.
All games will be played at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex, located across from the Durant Country Club on Highway 78 (click here for directions). Adult tickets are $8 for a one-day pass or a tournament pass is available for $20. Student tickets (with valid college I.D. or 18 years of age and younger) are $5 for one-day or $10 for the tournament.

ACU SOFTBALL COACH WON'T RETURN
ABILENE -- Two days after the end of a disappointing 2010 softball season, ACU director of athletics Jared Mosley announced Monday that the contract of head coach Chantiel Wilson would not be renewed when it expires at the end of this month.
The 2010 season began with ACU picked to finish second in the Lone Star Conference South Division, but it quickly went downhill as ACU struggled to a 9-17 start. The Wildcats never could right the ship as they finished 21-31 overall and 5-12 in Lone Star Conference South Division competition.
Citing a need for a fresh approach and new leadership, Mosley decided to make a change in the softball program.
"I feel a strong need for ACU to move in a different direction with the leadership in women's softball and have decided to not renew Coach Chantiel Wilson's contract for next year," Mosley said. "I appreciate the time and dedication that Chantiel has provided the past seven years to a program that meant a lot to her. I also look forward to moving quickly to find the next head coach to guide the program.
"I believe we need a fresh perspective in regards to leadership, direction and attitude in our softball program," he said. "We will immediately begin a search for a new coach to get our program where it needs to be in every facet."
Wide receiver Johnathan Haggerty and cornerback Jeff Lemon participated in the three-day Rookie Mini Camp where team personnel get to evaluate recent draft choices along with selected free agents and other invitees. Haggerty participated with approximately 40 other Cleveland Browns hopefuls at the team’s training facility in nearby Berea, Ohio. Lemon, meanwhile was one of 28 “camp only” invitees with the Green Packers at their Don hutson Training Center.
Lions' Deep Snapper at Dallas Cowboys Mini-Camp
Former Texas A&M University-Commerce deep snapper Daniel DeVega is currently
participating in the Dallas Cowboys minicamp in Valley Ranch, Texas. The Plano, Texas saw extensive action on the Lions' special teams units from 2006 to 2009. He graduated in May 2009 with his bachelor's degree in radio/television from A&M-Commerce.
