West Texas A&M football player faces drug charges - Dave Henry and Cheryl Berzanskis, Amarillo Globe News
West Texas A&M senior defensive end Bryan Braman has been suspended indefinitely from the team after he was charged with manufacturing a controlled substance - hallucinogenic mushrooms, authorities said.
WT head football coach Don Carthel confirmed the suspension Monday and had no further comment. Braman turned himself in Oct. 5 to Randall County authorities without incident and was released on $5,000 bond.
WT Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Michael McBroom also said Braman was suspended indefinitely.

Braman is being represented by attorney Bill Kelly, who said Monday afternoon he plans to meet today with Assistant District Attorney Robert Love and District Attorney James Farren to discuss the case.
"I'd like to try to get something resolved pretty quick to see if we can get (Braman) back on the football team, but that's not my decision," said Kelly, who also met with Farren last week. "I would hate to see him not be able to finish out his senior year because of this."
Kelly said Braman faces a state jail felony charge.

In a related matter, defensive lineman Simione Kuli cleared his legal troubles last week and returned to the squad Saturday, earning five tackles and a fumble recovery in a win over TSU.
Kuli was arrested Sept. 22 on a misdemeanor drug charge and entered a guilty plea Friday. He also paid a $787 fine. He and 22-year-old Richard Neill, who has no association with the university, were arrested by Canyon police at the home shared by Neill and Braman in the 2800 block of Second Avenue in Canyon. Braman was not at home at the time of the arrests.

Kuli also resolved another charge when he pleaded guilty in August to a misdemeanor theft charge in connection to an allegation of burglary that occurred April 29, Farren said.
He was assessed a $100 fine, $262 court costs and payment fee of $25. He was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service, court records show.
"He's paid his debt to society," Farren said.
"The legal process went through and (Kuli) met every stipulation that we had in front of him to be reinstated," McBroom said.

Gotta hand it to West Texas A&M defensive lineman Simi Kuli. Kuli stood up like a man before about 50 people at the weekly WT media luncheon Monday at the Big Texan Steak Ranch and addressed his recent arrest on drug-related charges. Kuli, who pled guilty to a misdemeanor and was reinstated to the team last week, apologized and said he was not a drug user and does not do drugs. WT head coach Don Carthel said Kuli has passed two drug tests. Kuli received a standing ovation.
Homecoming turns sour in fourth for East Central - Brian Johnson, Ada Evening News
A stellar defensive effort wasn’t enough for East Central University as visiting Incarnate Word scored 21 fourth-quarter points to beat the Tigers 27-13 in a Lone Star Conference football crossover clash Saturday night, spoiling ECU’s homecoming, at Norris Field.
The Tigers enjoyed leads of 6-0 through one quarter and 13-6 through the third, but the Cardinals took advantage of field position along with a fumbled return to take control of the game in the fourth quarter.
The loss overshadowed a couple of nice offensive performances out of ECU running back Domonique Massengill and receiver Zack Patteson.
