Losses to West Alabama, Central Washington and Minnesota State-Mankato made room for three new teams to enter the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Shepherd (W.Va.) comes into the poll for the first time this season at No. 21 after a 28-13 win over Charleston (W.Va.), moving the Rams’ record to 5-0. Valdosta State beat Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) 21-19, and re-enters the Top 25 at No. 22, while Colorado State-Pueblo makes its first-ever appearance in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll at No. 25. The Thunderwolves are 5-0 after a 33-30 triple overtime victory over Chadron State (Neb.).
The Top 5 remained unchanged this week with Grand Valley State (Mich.) still holding onto the top spot with 21 first-place votes. The Lakers are followed by Minnesota-Duluth at No. 2, North Alabama at No. 3, California (Pa.) at No. 4 and Abilene Christian (Texas) at No. 5. All five of those programs have identical 5-0 records.

LSC Football Weekly Release: ACU hosts MSU in battle of undefeated teams
ANOTHER TOP-10 GAME
The last two undefeated Lone Star Conference teams will play this week as No. 8 Midwestern State travels to No. 5 Abilene Christian in a match-up of top-10 ranked teams. Last week, ACU defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville for the Javelinas first setback of the season.
STILL FOUR LSC TEAMS RANKED IN TOP-10
There are still four LSC squads ranked in top 10 of the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll (Oct. 4) but the order has changed. ACU remains at No. 5, while West Texas A&M is seventh, MSU eighth and Kingsville dropped to 10th.

DIVISIONAL PLAY CONTINUES
Division play continues in week seven with six contests. A crossover game will be played as well. The league has played 16 crossover contests this season with the South Division holding a 13-3 advantage.
A&M-C, TARLETON GAME TO BE TELEVISED LIVE
For the second time this season, a LSC football game will be televised live as Texas A&M-Commerce hosts Tarleton State on TXA 21, Saturday, October 16th at Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. TXA 21 is also the over-the-air broadcast outlet for area professional teams including the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars. The TXA market covers 6.9 million people in 32 counties, including 2.59 million television households.

Mitchell Gale, Abilene Christian University, SO, QB, Alva, Okla., Alva HS
ACU’s sophomore quarterback set career highs for completions, attempts and yards in a game Saturday night as he led the fifth-ranked and unbeaten Wildcats to a 31-24 road win over sixth-ranked and previously unbeaten Texas A&M-Kingsville at Javelina Stadium. ... Gale completed 34 of 51 passes for 417 yards and three touchdowns as the Wildcats jumped out to leads of 21-0 and 31-10 on their way to their seventh straight win over the Javelinas. ... Gale threw touchdown passes of 26 yards to Edmund Gates, 27 yards to Justin Andrews and 10 yards to Ben Gibbs. ... His 417-yard effort is the seventh-best single-game effort in ACU history. ... Going back to last season, Gale has thrown 240 passes without throwing an interception.
SOUTH DEFENSIVE
Shad Baichtal, West Texas A&M University, SR, LB, Mission Viejo, Calif., Mission Viejo HS
Baichtal delivered in just about every way imaginable in the Buffs’ 34-22 win at Northeastern State. The 5-11, 175-pounder, registered 13 solo tackles (14 total stops), including six stops behind the line of scrimmage for minus-22 yards, two QB sacks for minus-13 yards, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble to thwart a last-ditch NSU drive and deflected one passing attempt. Among his tackles, he registered two TFL’s on third down plays as well as a third-down sack, with each resulting in an NSU punt. He capped off the day by forcing and recovering an NSU fumble with 2:17 remaining in the contest.
SOUTH SPECIAL TEAMS
Jacob Rowe, Tarleton State University, SR, Coverage, Alvarado, Alvarado HS
Recording a blocked kick is occasional in a game, but doing so twice on the same night is rare. Tarleton’s Jacob Rowe blocked Angelo State’s first field goal attempt in the opening quarter. The kick was from the Tarleton 36-yardline, and the ball was returned to the ASU two by another Texan. With Tarleton trailing 34-20, ASU attempted a 29-yard field goal that Rowe again blocked. That block turned out to make the difference in the game as the Texans scored the last 17 points of the game to take the 37-34 victory. Rowe also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter at the ASU four-yardline to set up the game-tying touchdown.
NORTH OFFENSIVE
Dustin Stenta, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, R-FR, QB, Keller, TX, Keller Central HS
Stenta accounted for 258 yards of total offense and scored one touchdown as SWOSU celebrated its first win of the season with a 21-10 victory over Eastern New Mexico. Stenta completed 16-of-29 passes for 178 yards and added another 81 yards on 18 carries on the ground. It was SWOSU’s first victory over ENMU since 2003.
NORTH DEFENSIVE
DeMarcus Miller, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, JR, CB, Frisco, TX, Centennial HS
Miller had two interceptions, a pass break up and two tackles in SWOSU’s 21-10 victory over Eastern New Mexico. Miller was part of a defensive effort that held the Greyhounds to 30 points below their season scoring average. They limited ENMU quarterback Wesley Wood to fewer than 50% of his completions and only one touchdown, his lowest numbers so far this season.
NORTH SPECIAL TEAMS
Chris Robbs, University of Central Oklahoma, SO, K, Dallas, TX, Bishop Lynch HS
Robbs scored seven points in UCO’s come-from-behind 31-28 LSC North Division win over East Central, hitting all four extra point tries and his lone field goal attempt. The sophomore nailed a 45-yard field goal -- tying a career long -- on the final play of the first half to cut what had been 14-0 and 21-7 deficits to 21-17 and he added two second-half PATs as the Bronchos completed the comeback.
