Week Six.
The October 12 national poll has three teams from this region ranked - #2 Central Missouri, #8 St Edwards, and #19 Midwestern, with Abilene Christian receiving votes.

Offensive – Amber Guenther University of Incarnate Word

Midwestern. Only undefeated team in conference now at 5-0. ENMU was Friday’s victim with the Mustangs using a 57th minute goal by Kelsey Hill as the winner. Midwestern outshot the Zia’s 26-4. Sunday’s match against the Buffs of WT was a 0-0 draw at intermission before a 51st minute goal off a corner by Janna Staley gave Midwestern the temporary lead. WT earned a PK following a foul in the area at the 71st minute. MSU’s Jordan Smith provided the winner in the 76th from distance. Both MSU goals were the season’s first for the respective scorers. One more homestand weekend for the Mustangs as they welcome SWOSU and Central Oklahoma.
ACU. Added two wins to settle at a 4-1 LSC mark. Friday the Wildcats recorded their first-ever win over WT with a score of 4-1. Ashley Holton’s 7th minute goal provided the only scoring of the first half. The Cats added goals in the 51st, 63rd and 79th minute, wrapped around a 51st minute Buff goal. Only five fouls were recorded for the match. Sunday frosh Andrea Carpenter’s hat trick and a late goal by the Zia’s provided a 3-1 Wildcat win. The first half was a defensive struggle with ACU holding the Zia’s without a shot while only notching five themselves. Carpenter now leads the LSC in scoring with teammate Ashley Holton following at #2. This weekend ACU is at home against Central Oklahoma and SWOSU.
UIW. Notched wins over TWU and A&M Commerce for a 4-1 LSC tally. Friday the Cardinals and Pioneers battled for 104 scoreless minutes before UIW secured the OT winner at 104:02. Sunday UIW scored 3 second half goals before the Lions scored to bring the final score of 3-1. This weekend the Cardinals begin a four game home stand when ENMU and WT A&M come visiting.
Angelo State. Began the weekend as one of two with an unblemished conference record. Friday the Rambelles outlasted A&M Commerce on their home field. The Lions outshot Angelo 15-6 but the Rambelles prevailed with a 2nd OT goal at the 105th minute mark. The match was a physical affair with a total of 30 fouls. Sunday Angelo was handed their only conference defeat of the year by TWU. After a scoreless first half the Pioneers Kyli Morgan hit a 49th minute goal with Brandie DeBacker answering in the 64th. TWU notched the winner off a corner in the 102nd minute. This weekend the Rambelles face WT at home before a Sunday trip to Portales to face ENMU.
Central Oklahoma. Bolstered their LSC results by adding 2 wins for the weekend. Friday against ECU finished a 3-2 win in regulation – just barely. UCO struck first before ECU scored 2 first half goals followed by another Broncho goal for the 2-2 halftime mark. Central Oklahoma used all the clock before netting the winner in the 90th minute. Sunday the Riverhawks did not take a shot in the first half of the match and were outshot 20-7 for the match, but it took 89 minutes for UCO to find the net for a 1-0 regulation win. This weekend the Bronchos trek to Texas for tough matches with ACU and Midwestern.
WT A&M. Suffered two defeats to land at a 2-2-1 LSC mark. Against ACU a defensive minded first half saw only one shot for WT and five for the Wildcats, who did net a 7th minute goal for a 1-0 halftime lead. The 51st minute saw a goal for each side, until ACU sealed the deal with 63rd and 79th minute scores.
#21 Midwestern was Sunday’s opponent and again featured a defensive duel for the 0-0 intermission. The Mustangs sandwiched goals around a Lindsay McHorse PK for a 2-1 win. This weekends matches are against Angelo St and UIW on the road.
TWU. Split for the weekend to land on a 2-2-1 conference mark. Friday at home against UIW the match ran 103 scoreless minutes before the Cardinals scored the golden goal winner in the second OT period. Angelo State also took the Pioneers to OT, but this time TWU prevailed 2-1. The match featured a scoreless first half while both sides netted a goal in the second to end a 1-1. The winner in the 102nd minute gave Angelo their first defeat of the conference matches. This week TWU travels to Oklahoma for matches with two winless opponents, NSU and ECU.
A&M Commerce. Suffered two losses to slide to 2-3 in LSC play. Angelo State prevailed in a 2OT match by a 105th minute winner. UIW scored 3 second half goals to top the Lions 3-1 on Sunday. This week will be more successful for the Lions as they face ECU and NSU on the road.
SWOSU. Two wins for the weekend improved the Bulldogs to 2-3 standings. Friday SWOSU scored one in each half and allowed NSU one goal to earn the 2-1 win. Sunday the ‘Dogs shut out ECU 1-0 via a 52nd minute score. The week competition will be a bit more challenging as the Bulldogs face #19 Midwestern and (#4 Regionally) ACU on the road.
NSU. Dropped two conference matches to slip to 0-4-1. On the road the Riverhawks managed a second half goal against SWOSU – that was not enough as the Bulldogs scored two for the 2-1 final. Central Oklahoma only scored once in the Sunday match, but that was enough for the 1-0 shutout. Tuesday afternoon a non-conference match with the GSC’s Ouachita Baptist ended in a 0-0 2OT draw. This week the Riverhawks try to regroup at home against TWU and A&M Commerce.
ECU. Lost two matches on the road to stand at 0-4-1 in LSC play. Friday against Central Oklahoma theTigers produced two first half goals to match the Bronchos for a 2-2 halftime mark. Unfortunately a 90th minute goal by Central Oklahoma resulted in a 3-2 regulation loss. SWOSU scored a 52nd minute goal and held on for the 1-0 shutout on Sunday. Home matches against A&M Commerce and TWU present the Tigers opportunities to find that elusive first conference win.
ENMU. Still looking for their first conference point, the Zia’s fell to 0-5 over the weekend. Friday (then #21) Midwestern outshot ENMU 26-4 for the match but only netted one for the 1-0 shutout loss. Sunday the Wildcats tallied three goals in only eight shots before Justine Tydings prevented the shutout with an 82nd minute goal. This weekend brings matches against UIW and Angelo State.
Almost halfway through the conference season Midwestern remains unbeaten and untied and touts a #19 national ranking. Angelo State continues strong with a 4-1 mark. ACU has thus far managed to escape their usual stumbles and also stands at 4-1, and UIW stands at 4-1 in their inaugural LSC season. This Friday’s match between Angelo and WT could be the match of the weekend, with Central Oklahoma VS ACU also looking to provide a clearer picture of the top six.
