Gravity continues to frustrate Amanda Ouedraogo. The Abilene Christian triple
jumper loves sailing through the air — and winning. But she hates the fact she
has to come back down.
Ironically, it's the junior's down-to-earth attitude and work ethic, along with her ability, that's made her the best Division II women's triple jumper in the nation. Still, she's not satisfied.
"I think I have some improvement to do," she said. "Even though I'm No. 1, I can't take it for granted. People can beat me. I'm a fighter. I'm a warrior. But sometimes I don't control my emotions. That's a big problem."

SAN ANGELO, Texas — It took 53 games to earn it,
but the Angelo State University softball team has home-field advantage this
weekend at the South Central Regional Tournament. With a 19-1 record at home this year, the Rambelles hope they now have the
inside track to another trip to the Division II College World Series. The path to Louisville, Ky. — the site of this year's national tournament —
begins at 7 p.m. today when top-seeded ASU (44-9) takes on No. 8 St. Edward's
(29-19) at 7 p.m. at the ASU Softball Complex. The Belles swept the Hilltoppers in a series earlier this year in Austin (4-1
and 2-1), with Mary Kate McKay throwing a one-hitter and Claire Molina tossing a
three-hitter.
Despite those two dominant pitching performances, ASU head coach Travis Scott knows he's dealing with a St. Edward's team that has some momentum after winning the Heartland Conference last week to automatically qualify for regionals.
"Offensively, they're a team that struggled a little bit early in the year, but they obviously had a big weekend last week," Scott said. "We feel confident, but at the same time we know we have to go out and play well."

The Abilene Christian softball team gets a shot at redemption. The Wildcats
lost five of their last six games, including a first-round game at the Lone Star
Conference tournament, yet still got in the NCAA Division II playoffs for the
first time since 2009.
"You don't get many second chances, whether it's life or sports or whatever," ACU coach Bobby Reeves said. "They were excited (Monday). It was probably the best workout since the first of the year — diving and catching and doing all the things they need to do. So I think it's a good thing. They're excited about the opportunity, and hopefully they'll make the best of it."

The Wildcats (29-16), the No. 6 seed in the region, play third-seeded Emporia
State (39-9), the No. 16 team in the country, at 4:30 p.m. today. Central Oklahoma (38-5), the region's No. 2 seed and the nation's No. 3 team,
plays seventh-seeded Incarnate Word (29-23) at 8 p.m. today in the other Edmond
sub-regional game today. The two winners will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, while the
two losers play at 4:30 p.m. today in the double-elimination tournament. The
championship game is set for 3 p.m. Sunday.
