Daylon “Chuck” Guy will come to Stephenville by way of Little Rock, Ark. Originally from Fort Worth, Guy was a dominant high school stand out at Eastern Hills H.S. With plans of majoring in sports medicine at Tarleton, he will bring loads of talent and experience to a Texan squad that must replace six seniors from last years LSC Championship and NCAA Regional participating team.
In high school, Guy was named the district’s MVP as a senior after averaging 24.5 points, five assists and five steals per game. The leader of the Highlanders was named 4A All-State, All-Region and appeared in the TABC All-Star game. Guy helped his team to a 21-10 record his senior year as well.
Prior to that, Guy averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 assists and five steals each contest as a junior. He also was named Sophomore of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the district his first two years at Eastern Hills H.S.
Upon graduation from high school, Guy took his talents to Arkansas-Little Rock where he had an immediate impact. He finished his freshman season fourth on the team in scoring, played in all 36 games and ranked second on the team with 35 steals, all as a true freshman. On top of that, he was third on the team in three-point field goal percentage (.420) and assists per game (2.0). The highlight of his first year at UALR was a 20-point performance against Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 15. Later, he just missed a triple-double against St. Gregory with 10 points, eight assists, and nine rebounds, showcasing his triple-threat abilities.
Head coach Lonn Reisman is excited about Tarleton’s third Division I transfer in the past two seasons.
“Chuck brings immediate experience to our back-court,” said Reisman. “He is a scoring point guard that can combo if needed. He has great range but also brings the ability to break pressure and create shots. I thought at times last year’s team lacked the jet-quick guy that could go make things happen and Chuck will definitely bring that skill to our team next year. He’s played against very good competition the last two seasons competing in the Sun Belt conference including one trip his freshman year to the NCAA Tournament. We both share the same goals and expectations and think he will be an amazing fit and player for us here at Tarleton State for the next two seasons.”
Coach Reisman also talked about the caliber of player Guy is entering the program.
“I have coached a couple of NBA players in Dennis Rodman and Anthony Jones and I think Chuck’s natural talent is on par with those players,” said Reisman. “If he comes in here and works hard for the next two years and continues to develop, I think he’ll have a shot at playing at the next level. He has the skills and ability, it is just up to him to put in the work and dedication.”
Guy also considered Division I schools Texas A&M, Texas-Arlington and others before deciding up on Tarleton.
