14th-ranked Mustangs pound Truman State, 31-19, in season opener
Sophomore Vincent Johnson rushed for three touchdowns and Quade Coward passed for a career high 295 yards to lead 14th-ranked Midwestern State to a 31-19 win over Truman State Saturday night at Stokes Stadium.
The Mustangs took control of the game scoring on three of four possessions spanning the end of the first half and the start of the second to turn a 13-7 deficit into a 28-13 lead after Johnson scored his third touchdown of the game with 3:34 to play in the third quarter...Complete Release
Redemption One Year Later, Football Begins 2016 with W
A balanced effort by the Javelinas led to the team's first season opening victory in 2012 as #RV Texas A&M-Kingsville (1-0) knocked off Division I program Incarnate Word (0-1), 31-22, Saturday evening at Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium.
Myles Carr went 23-of-28 with 313 yards and three touchdowns, two to Jordan Thomas, who finished with 79 yards, and one to converted tight end Chris Cooper. Cooper made the switch from offensive line last season. Luis Lopez powered into the end zone once and Greg Pitre collected 88 total yards on the ground. What can Brown do for UTPB in 27-6 Inaugural Win
Kristian Brown caught a pair of touchdown passes and nearly broke a kickoff return to the house and Brandon Infiesto racked up 102 yards on 16 carries and scored the team's first ever touchdown as UT Permian Basin took a 27-6 win in its first ever game as a program Saturday night against Sul Ross at Ratliff Stadium.
UTPB held the Lobos to a three-and-out on the first drive of the night, and a trio of big gainers moved the ball down the field. Infiesto ran for 11 yards facing 2nd and 10, Kameron Mathis found Brown for a 13 yard catch on 2nd and 8, and Mathis busted off a 24 yard QB keeper to the Sul Ross 4-yard line. Texans drop season opener at FCS No. 9 McNeese State
Tarleton stood toe-to-toe with the No. 9-ranked team in NCAA Division I FCS for the first quarter but offensive struggles ultimately hurt the Texans in a 33-3 loss to McNeese State.
Head coach Todd Whitten made his return debut in the game, and his experience against Southland Conference opponents showed in the first 12 minutes of action. Tarleton (0-1) forced McNeese State into two first-quarter punts and the Cowboys missed a 35-yard field goal that the Texans capitalized on that resulted in a 35-yard field goal by Sergio Sroka. USD Shuts Down Mustangs in Season Opener
San Diego limited Western New Mexico to 217 yards of offense in taking the 27-0 victory in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.

Rams Fall to McKendree 33-19
Angelo State had a 19-9 halftime lead disappear in the second half as McKendree scored 24 unanswered points to beat the Rams 33-19 on Thursday night in the season opener.
The Rams (0-1) committed six turnovers in the game with four leading to all 24 points the Bearcats (1-0) scored in the second half. McKendree outgained ASU 397-276 overall and 226 to 111 yards on the ground. It is the first season opening loss for Angelo State since 2008.
Josh Stevens led ASU offensively with 78 yards on the ground on 21 carries. Jake Faber and Jesse Drummer both played quarterback for the Rams. Faber was 10-for-19 for 95 yards but had three interceptions. Drummer finished the night going 6-for-11 for 70 yards passing. Casey Eyman had an impressive debut for ASU averaging 40.8 yards on nine punts. He pinned McKendree inside the 20-yard line six times on the night. Eastern New Mexico put together a furious second half rally behind a 149-yard, two-touchdown effort from junior running back Kamal Cass in Thursday night's season opener. Azusa Pacific Downs West Texas A&M 28-10 in Season-Opener
West Texas A&M dropped a 28-10 decision in its 2016 season-opener at Azusa Pacific Thursday evening.
WT was led by senior running back Devon Paye who had 62 yards on the ground on 16 carries with a touchdown. Junior quarterback Ethan Brinkley went 29 of 46 for 233 yards and two interceptions, while senior Ja'Quarius Daniels caught 11 passes for 93 yards. Juniors Daelin Young and Trevor Myklebust each had 10 tackles with Young having a game-high seven solo stops and the team with 2.5 tackles for loss for seven yards.
As a team, the Buffs led in first downs (20-17), passing yards (233-68) and total offense (273-242), but a miss handled punt for a safety and two interceptions proved costly, putting the Buffs in a hole which they were unable to recover ...Complete Release
